We waited and paid so much a year for hospital cover, we barely use the cover and was rushed to the hospital to find out they didn't cover one cent. When you are in an emergency you want a cover and insurance that helps you, we called and they don't help and they don't care.

I left AHM to go to another and they responded by harassing me calling up to 3 times a day. Whenever I answered the call the representative would hang up. Not to mentioned the service I received while on the fund was poor. Stay away from AHM!

I have been with AHM for 5+ years. 7 weeks ago my partner was in an accident that almost killed him. He is no longer working and we are down to just my income. I work 3 days a week and 6 weeks before his accident we bought our first home. Working 3 days a week is not covering it and we are having to cut costs. I tried to ask to have my policy put on hold for 6 months or even less because we are in financial hardship at the moment and was told that it is not financial hardship and nothing could be done. I tried to resolve with their complaints department and was told the same thing. I was advised to lower or cancel my policy, but both options means the waiting periods reset and they can't help me. I am disgusted, in the 8 minute conversation, no assessment was made on my circumstances, it was just a no. I will be telling everyone my experience, health care is expensive, people need to pick one with some empathy. I have paid them for over 5 years, I ask for help for a few months to pause the policy and nothing.

I have been with oshc ahm for 4 years and just signed up for an extra cover almost 1 month. And for first coule years I’ve never made any claim but around end of last year I was sick and need to get into the hospital I had to see GP and buy a lot of medicines I can claim all of then even not in full but all they need is just receipts that made easily than other companies. Now I decided to get an extra cover for dental so far is good but they have to improve their customer service.

When I call them for sign up staff was very very polite even I’m not good in English but she tried to understand what I want to know (I know she wanted me to purchase it) but after 1 week I called asking more information with same number staff who talked to me was so rude he knew I’m not native speaker he checked my member id and said you are an overseas student you should call other number!! What?!!! Seriously??? I paid extra and have to get this service??? But so far besides that rude staff was ok.

We pay almost 300 a month and really only use it for dental and eye ware.The amount you get back is quite dismal and what you payout per year is simply a joke.The time will come when all the people you screwed over with your yearly price increases and poor service is coming.Its true that you guys have really made a name for yourselves even my GP said leave them.

I have been a member on and off over the last few years and only take it out when me and my partner need to get some dental work at short notice. The perks far outweigh what you pay in premiums.

My partner had bad dental health and I'm pregnant but fully intend on having my birth in my public hospital (was amazing last pregnancy). Claims are done within a day and almost everything has no wait periods. I have claimed extensive dental work, designer optical frames, gym membership, birthing classes and some pharmaceutical reciepts. I have no regrets and would recommend a friend or family member join 100 percent. If you don't like it, simply cancel it and move on.

I have been with AHM for over 15 years, before that I was with AHM on my parents membership. Last year my membership lapsed in August.
In late October my son was diagnosed as having a tongue tie, to have his day surgery we needed to fill out pre-existing condition forms to prove it wasn’t known before August. My GP filled out a form (cost $50 for an appointment to fill out the form) and sent it off to AHM. They have now told me they also need the specialist (whom I saw for the first time in November based on a referral from above mentioned GP) to fill out a form saying he wasn’t aware of it before this (even though the form from GP says I wasn’t referred to him until late October!!!!!)
I need to pay $300 to see my specialist and fill out a form to repeat what the GP has said to save $256 from AHM.... so mad it is such a waste of money I don’t know why I bother nothing useful is covered with this private health insurer.
Will be moving to a better health fund.

I have dealt with various insurance companies, both personally and professionally and the service provided to me and my family by AHM was first rate. They are courteous, fair and professional.

AHM is our first private health insurer and so far I'm really happy with them. We chose the extras cover and it's been so beneficial to us. I discovered them through compare the market and their prices were great for what we were after. The staff have been friendly and onto it whenever I've ever needed anything. Would definitely recommend .

I have been with this company now for 5 months and was recently rushed to hospital via ambulance. i was told that Noosa Hospital had a vacancy and if i had private health insurance they could take me up there, which i advised that i did have. I was admitted to the hospital and given immediate treatment to assist me breath. The administration team at the hospital then advised me that my health insurance company AHM had declined my acceptance into Noosa Hospital. After several weeks in hospital i called my ahm medical cover and asked why my claim was declined but was told that they had insufficient information to process my claim at the time and that i should have called prior to going to hospital to check with them first!!!! i was barely breathing at the time i was taken by ambulance - AHM advised that there was no reason that my admittance should have been declined and that i was covered to go to a private hospital - what have i been paying for all this time!!! i have since cancelled my cover and have told lots of people i know how poorly my matter was treated by AHM!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been with AHM since 2014 and they have always given me exactly what I wanted for the most competitive price. The customer service is of the highest quality and any questions get answered within the first point of contact, all reimbursements happen quickly and my cover suites all my needs. My family and friends are all coverted to AHM as you can't get any better.

I have been with AHM for 3 years as an overseas student health cover.
They recently requested that I send in receipts for GAP claims, as part of an audit process. Therefore I have to pay back a certain amount of money in 14 days.

First of all, That was the instructions that I had when I first signed my contract.
Second of all, do I have to have the knowledge of GAPs between the insurance company and the clinics?

Even online service, they MUST have a team to check every single receipt. Otherwise, you can upload any paper there and get the refund. That is ridiculous.

A serious company would check it before to refund. It makes clear they have no capacity to evaluate the claims.
In the end, they will charge you for their incapacity. I feel extremely harm as a consumer.

Had AHM cover for 2.5 years as a family of 5 with $2500 lifetime braces cover per child. AHM monthly premiums for our family were $375. Daughter's braces cost more than $2500 but the dentist offered 0% interest payment plan. Monthly payments are $198. After paying the first 3 months installments of the denticare payment plan, uploading a new claim form each time with receipt each month to receive my $198 refund from AHM, my 4th claim was refunded only partially. A call to AHM revealed that they only pay out $700 per child, per year, so each year we could only claim $198+$198+$198+$94=$700. So for 3.5 months of the year our health expenses were just the $375 AHM premiums, because AHM refunded 3.5 of the denticare payments claimed from our $2500 braces cover. However, for 8.5 months of the year, our health expenses were $375+$198= $473. We have another child ready for braces but we simply could not afford $375+$198+$198=$771 for 8.5 months of the year for two kids with braces with AHM. I don't know anyone that can afford to pay that all out in medical expenses only each month. We have had to cancel private health cover with AHM and will just pay out the $198 0% interest payment plan installment for each child instead = $396 every month towards the children's braces. AHM's refund policy for braces cover was a massive let down because this process of only refunding up to $700 per year, per child from each child's $2500 lifetime allowance was not explained at any point to us when signing up to the policy. Cannot recommend AHM for families, there has to be a better provider out there.

Kept billing me for 3 months after I cancelled. I cant claim until they cancel so I’ve been waiting and waiting to get refunds. I call my new insurer they say they sent an email straight away, and resend an email. Then nothing... ahm keeps billing.

I am leaving ahm as I got barely anything back on my insurance - so what’s the point. $600 of dentistry work and only receiving $150 back from my insurance it’s a crock.

Finally, I call them today to cancel for the fourth time and they tell me they’ve not received a letter. They can only cancel from today. I cancelled more than 3 months ago. I have a copy and I forward it to them, they ask me to include my membership number. Then I’m asked to call back to make sure they get it. Are they a business or do they need their customers to do their work for them?!

Absolute disgrace.

I joined this Health Fund back in 1986 when it was known as GEHF. It has changed hands a few times now. As I have been a member for so long, the contract that I had previously is honoured and will remain so. My children who are over 25 years old continue with the fund that I first set up. There are items which they continue on from my cover that cannot be chosen anymore. They can also mover their cover up and down the scale at any time to help cover their needs at different stages of their life. This fund allows you to have children under your cover till they are 25 years old. This has helped us immensely as I have 4 children. I pay monthly and I am happy with all the cover I get. I have had many conversations over the phone and most of the time, the representative has the knowledge of different plans and such. There have been claims made through this health fund for work accidents, car accidents and everyday issues. Each claim has been straight forward for us and has been finished within weeks. It has suited our family's needs over the years and continues to do so.

Have been with the since 2017 but have only used my extras cover this month for dental. So easy saving me hundreds of dollars. Swipe yr card then pay the remainder. Low fortnightly payments for my whole family. Would definitely recommend!!!

Unfortunately is this day and age you have to have health insurance and I think not one company is any better than the other. AHM allows me to do all my transactions on HICAPS.

Policy changed twice and was not notified via text or phone to advise, they also did not tell me about a claim form I needed to lodge 2 weeks prior to my surgery
They will then review the form to decide if the condition was pre-existing or not??? Really AHM you are the ones that force changed my policy not the other way around
Now I need to re-schedule the surgery and all related matters to when they decide that the condition was pre-existing? Really AHM you have all these details listed from my sign up call over 12 months ago

After 30 years with AHM with hospital/extras cover, I found myself in the premature situation of requiring a knee replacement (I'm only 57). AHM refuse to waiver or reduce the 12 month waiting period stating 'Some members join up, get the procedure done, then cancel'. Does 30 years of loyalty count - NOPE!! I will painfully await the procedure and curse them every day, then move cover.

I have been with AHM for 12 years and was happy with them until they changed to online. They recently requested that I send in receipts for claims dating back 2 years, as part of an audit process.
I haven't kept all receipts so they are now saying I will have to pay back any benefit received.
Interestingly in some cases my provider has not kept records either.
The is a terrible fund, they look cheap and they are cheap, avoid at all costs, I recommend HCF or anyone else.
