Booksie.com Reviews & Complaints (9)

I bore witness to vindictiveness on the site both by admins and users with a superiority complex created by a flawed "view/r ead" system creating public badges to promote entitlement. Personal milestones (badges & views) should be just that- personal. Readers are unknowingly suckered into clicking posts that generate these reads that breed types like hullabafoon22, because such users boost and post constantly, with no room for anyone else on the main page to be acknowledged. The site claims to track stolen intellectual property and copyrighted material, but the content remains, and the people who point it out don't. The new donation option is another breach of privacy that the site claims to protect, as through PayPal, both parties information such as legal birth name and personal emails are released. An excellent author I followed on the website, known prodominetly as Burning Sage, was recently banned from the site for speaking up about these issues on a public post. Me, being new to the site, immediately became further soured by what I'd already experienced on the site myself. In final correspondence with this author online, she spoke clear of Booksies intentional lies to justify keeping money she had paid for in advance for services that will never be provided to her such as entering a writing contest and boosting the post for the event. This is not a website for intelligent people. If you want to be a hullabafoon22, than this is the place for you. Otherwise, run in the other direction. -Mechanic Metal. The following pictures are snippets of author Raven Leal's commemoration of our missing star.

Booksie is the best writing website I've ever reads. It gets me the attention that I crave and is boosting my writing career. The websites it's been compared to now look nothing alike, and are kind of dead. The Booksie community is also really amazing, friendly, welcoming, and bustling.

The site kind of sucks. There's a lot of tweens on there just reviewing for ego plus it's pretty much just a rip off of the much better sites www.writers-network.com and writecafe.org They copied everything from "fans" to the "writing portfolio" to the "promoted writing". I think it's pretty sad that a writing site lacks the originality to come up with a unique concept. Just saying!

While at one time they claimed to allow critcism of the site, now they admit they dont. They think free speech is a joke and say they dont care about bad reviews of the site.. They also have a buddy system who are favored above the rest.

I have been a member of Booksie for almost two years now. It is a friendly user site with some very helpful members. I get to air my writing to the world and receive comments and reviews from people all over the world. If you are like me, and a hobby writer, then this site is great for sharing your work for all to see. It also helps you to grow as a writer. I Highly recommend hobby writers to give it a go.

I have been a member of Booksie since 2009 and it has changed greatly over the years. The big differences between it and other writing sites is no point system. Some sites use points to decide if you are allowed to post new material, others use them to decide who is the most visible. Booksie has no point system, if you put in the effort you will be seen. The Booksie staff is very good at dealing with problems and they even have members as moderators unlike most other sites where they have no moderation at all. They do want to keep the writing PG13 but I can understand that since there is no real way to verify ages. The difference in the features between a paying member and a non-paying member aren't that big of a deal either.

Sure, Booksie has it's issues like crybabies that don't like being told that their writing suck and drama queens in a position of power. It seems that hullubaloo22 is an admin on the site. Looking back through the old forum posts I found numerous cases where those who are admins or moderators of the site are involved in drama-filled topics. More often then not the person these people in power are attacking are regular members who in the end are thrown off. I have seen the postings that have led to the removal of at least five good writers simply because they disagreed with those BooksieGuy has given authority to. The only one that even admits to having such a position is B. Douglas Slack who seems to rarely show his face anymore on the site. BooksieGuy made it clear that arguing in the forums wouldn't be tolerated but only takes action when one of his pets are being put in their place. A couple of those in positions of power do try to do the right thing, but they are greatly outnumbered by those that abuse their power from behind the scenes like some secret government. Booksie does have a few things that set it apart from other sites in the fact that it allows you to post anything for free where some limit the number of items you can post or the type of item if you aren't a paid member. The forums would be a benefit also if they were better monitored and controlled by responsible individuals. Booksie also works hard to remove spammers which is a plague on other writings sites. It also doesn't show favoritism to published authors over non-published authors as I have seen on several other sites. All in all, I would have to say that as long as you can avoid the shadow forces that truly control Booksie you won't find a better site on the internet to post your writing. If you do run afoul of some of those that BooksieGuy gave power to then you should just leave or make a new account and try to start over.

I am Raven Leal, the same who wrote what you see in the pictures of Sage and freedom of speech. Those pictures were taken without permission to attack a site with a very non-toxic community who cares about writing. What these pictures also do not show is that I noted my mistake both in the summary and comment part about writing it without enough knowledge of the situation. Here is the link to see for yourself. https://www.booksie.com/617798-to-miss-burning-sage I've been reviewing all information I can find about Sage's ban and will be posting another piece of the evidence I have that could be against her or the site booksie, but as of now, if you're a writer. Come by Booksie and reach out to others on the site, we all have a love for writing and this is my favorite site for it. As for whoever decided to use me to fuel the war Sage has against Booksie, this will be noted, and it does not look good. Update; It seems that the pictures used without my knowledge have been taken down. Thank you very much.
