I made an appointment to visit last Thursday as I was driving over from Leicestershire to visit 3 other homes on the same day.
I received a confirmation email.
I then got a phone call cancelling my arranged visit. Rather dusappointing

Following a general enquiry for residential care for an elderly gentleman I received a very quick response with an invitation to view the home which I was able to do the same day
First impressions was how friendly and happy the staff were and working in a lovely environment The residents rooms were beautiful everything everything about this home was ideal and I would have been very happy to choose Wheaton Aston Court
However the deciding factor came down to location The family decided that it would be more convenient for this gentleman to be nearer to his elderly family and friends who wanted to visit but were unable to drive
Having discussed this with other people Wheaton Aston Court has been highly recommended

My daughters and I were met by a friendly receptionist (Julie) and shown around the home by Robert.

I was particularly impressed by the fact that Robert knew each member of staff by name, and chatted to them openly as we moved around the home. Each resident was also spoken to by name - he has obviously taken the time to learn their names and any particular idiosyncrasies they may have!

The residents were all out of their rooms and participating in "everyday life", this is what we all wish for our elderly parents.

The home has no odour - I have visited and worked in a few and appreciated this.

Robert went out of his way to ensure that I had all the information that I required, both financial and practical, and was able to make recommendations for actions I needed to take on behalf of my Mum - all new to me as I haven't had to place a parent or friend in a nursing home before.

Julie and her tour was very impressive. We loved the fact that there was no smell of urine and that we were able to see two bedrooms, both of which were absolutely lovely. The decor, too, was just perfect. Can't think of a nicer place to stay.

I had phoned first prior to my visit and was informed that there was a waiting list in place. In order to secure a place a deposit had to be made and that it was basically first come first served whoever came forward with the money. I was absolutely appalled when the member of staff told me it was a 'business '. What happened to the caring attitude. The family were looking for a place for my dad and this immediately sent warning signs to us about the care my dad would expect from the home. I have never been made aware of deposits having to be submitted in the first instance to any nursing home. I am disgusted and very concerned about the care any vulnerable resident receives from this care home.

I rang to enquire about a respite place for my mother the lady on the phone was polite and passed me on to the home manager who was very rude and explained after me going through all the questions again that they don’t do respite and wasn’t told that this enquiry was for a respite place by the lady who I initially spoke to what a waste of time.

The lady taking me around was new to the job and didn’t have the information I ask for, she actually had to ring me when she had lost one of my relatives information which came across as very unprofessional. The care home was a disappointment for the amount of money and extras you have to pay for, the bedrooms were dark and un-inviting with wallpaper peeling off the walls in all of the rooms. The sitting room especially on the nursing floor was packed with residents all positioned in lines pointing towards the TV. This was the only stimulations in the room and no staff in attendance in the room. The corridor near the bathroom was left with a very unpleasant smell and I was told that the bathroom had just been used, the door had been left open to an assisted bathroom.
The general appearance in both areas appeared uninviting and uncomfortable. I could not recommend this to my relatives as I felt totally uncomfortable in the surroundings.

I had visited 2/3 years ago with a view to respite care, but considered he was too young, since then he has rapidly declined and now needs to be in full time care, on my return visit iy was obvious the a lot of decorative work had happened, the best thing though was the atmosphere and warm welcome of the staff. The manager was friendly, listened andable to answer any questions. She happily and proudly me showed me an available room and from the 'feel' I got I was willing to ask for my husband to be considered as a future resident.

My father has been there for 6 weeks.
The environment is spacious, light and welcoming,
The care is excellent, all the staff are friendly, kind and find time to chat, The nursing care is very professional and we are kept informed of any change in medication or doctors visits.
The food is very good and we are always welcome to join the residents for lunch at a very reasonable price.
My father is now settled and building new friendships.
We are very happy

Made very welcome, friendly staff, very informative, showed round Home and was impressed so much my Mum is now a resident and I will have peace of mind she will be looked after as she deserves.

Dad has now moved in and is settling in well, much more chatty that in the previous place, am really pleased, staff are pleasant and helpful, his room is nice, lovely food and friendly people

Sam showed us round and explained all the facilities available and Mum moved in that day. We know now that she’s is well cared for and has everything that she needs to get better and home soon, we hope. Excellent.

I was given a very nice tour and the relatively new assistant manager, who admitted to being new to the job, was nevertheless very helpful and informative. She did not have any information on costs so it would have been helpful if there had been a printed sheet.

My family and I were greeted by Paula who escorted us around the home and making a satisfactory impression by explaining how the home functions.We told her that we would like to consider moving my wife into Glebefields to which Paula explained that she would discuss the matter with her manager who returns back to work the following day. We were also informed that the manager was new and in
the process of making changes to improve the home.
I informed social services who later contacted me explaining that there was an issue with Glebefields and would not help fund my wifes move. I later received a phone call from Paula apologising for wasting my time and that they could not consider moving my wife into the home.
I am at a loss to understand WHY you would want a feedback from me knowing full well the circumstances of my visit.

We were warmly welcomed by the Care Home Manager, Rose who told us about the management and daily routines of patient care at Cossins House. Rose was very open and friendly and evidently interacted positively with residents and other members of staff.
The facilities at Cossins were bright and Clean and well maintained. In her show round Rose ensured that we were able to liaise openly with current residents.
Patients' safety, care and wellbeing are clearly central to Cossins Care policy.
