Only had to use once where out with in 30 mins top class and also don't keep putting up premiums and you can cover a older car specifically why i choose this cover ????????????

This is the 2nd year I have purchased the cover, Purchasing was easy via website. Unable to comment on service haven’t had to use it, hopefully if I do need to use the breakdown cover it will be worth every penny.

Many of the five-star reviews on here are based on the fact that the Driver Guardian Motor Legal Expenses policy is 'cheap' and 'good value'. Yes it is cheap, but how many of the people leaving glowing reviews have tried to make a claim under the Motor Legal Expenses cover, I wonder? Well, I have and based on my experience, I would not recommend this policy.

First off: in the small print you will note that legal assistance for the small claims court – where most claims end up - is limited to £500. That should buy you 2-3 hours of a solicitor's time, at current rates of approx £200 per hour. IF that is, you can persuade Driver Guardian to take on your case. (On that note, I'd be delighed to hear from anyone who HAS successfully persuaded Driver Guardian, or specifically, its underwriter Co-Plus, to do so.)

I sought legal assistance from Driver Guardian after my car was damaged in an IMO automated car wash. The person who took down the details of my claim was extremely helpful and led me to believe that they would get on the case immediately. I eventually received a letter from Co-Plus, the underwriter of the Driver Guardian policy, declining to pursue my claim as it 'has less han 50% chance of success in the small claims court'.

One of the reasons it cited for this was 'the lack of independent witnesses' – a little hard to come by in an automated car wash. I then spent over six months locked in a war of correspondence with Co-Plus and Driver Guardian, tryng to persuade them to honour the policy and pursue the third party for damages on my behalf. It refused.

Since Driver Guardian declined to deliver on the legal assistance I was expecting, I suggested it make a payment of £500 so that I could pursue the third party in the small claims court myself. It declined.

Driver Guardian's 'help' consisted of suggesting that I get a second estimate for the work to my car – a pointless, diversionary tactic since they weren't going to pursue the third party to pay for it – and offered to advise on this. The representative then sent an email complaining that I failed to respond to his offer of help.

Sorry, Driver Guardian but this was not the kind of 'help' I was looking for from you, or expecting when I took out this policy. The clue is in the name. Motor. Legal. Expenses. Not advice on the cost of the work to my car or an offer to contact the car wash operator informally. (A somewhat disingenuous suggestion since you were fully aware that he'd failed to respond to countless emails, phone calls and correspondence from his own public liability insurer, who agreed with me that that they considered him liable, but couldn't pay out on his policy as he'd ignored all communication.)

Driver Guardian asks [below] 'how it could have dealt with my problem differently'.
Answer: by providing legal assistance to pursue the third party.

Postscript: Since writing this review Driver Guardian has, in addition to its reply below – which is inaccurate and mendacious* – sent me a threatening email ordering me to take this review down or they will pursue me for libel. People considering taking out this policy might wish to draw their own conclusions from that.

The company also violated GDPR by referring to me by my name in its response (which, after I complained to TrustPilot was removed). Again, draw your own conclusions about the manner in which this company operates.

Not had to use the Driver Guardian services but good to know I am covered if needed

For the type of cover they offer at the price that they have for their breakdown cover (£65.00) and a cheaper renewal offer after the first 12 months gets my vote anytime

I have been with Driver Guardian for a number of years & have always been satisfied with the cover & service provided. The Admin Team are always very helpful & yet professional. I would highly recommend this company.

This is my second year with being with guardian and I can’t believe you get a discount for being loyal, what a great idea I just wish more companies would do the same.

I have used this service for the last 2 yrs. I buy basic car insurance and the comprehensive breakdown cover from Driver Guardian as its better value. I can't comment on the recovery service obviously, as I hope never to have to use it. I got a discount for renewing this year. I also use DG for other services too.

For years I paid for The big bucks to companies like AA and RAC and a few years ago I came across this firm and was amazed the price and reviews. I’ve not left since, quick example. I live in a welsh valley. Our Car brakes down and within 20-30 minutes help has arrived, car towed within 10 minutes to a garage. A friends car brakes down outside my house. RAC takes 3 hours to come, then decide they need a trailer, takes another 8 hours, and finally 12 hours later the car is at a garage! Why? What’s the money paying? The next day he left and joined this firm :-)

This the second year that I have been with Driver Guardian. I found it easy to renew, and with the discount, it is much cheaper than having cover on your Insurers Policy for people with more than one motor.
I cannot say how good their response will be in the event of an accident, and I hope I will never have to use their services.

Had to call out for home start which the big companies tend to put you at the back of the queue as you are classed as non essential, However guy at call centre told me someone will be with you 60-90 mins, and true to word arrived just after 60 mins,
Carried out an assessment and a few tests and told me what the fault was and needed garage work, he got it started so I could take it to garage 5 mins away.
Top service, very friendly and do exactly what they say they will do, when other breakdown companies call and postpone you for hours.
Highly recommended.

Carry out and renewal package received very good.

With them 3 years but not needed assistance

Driver Guardian provided me a car from next day of the accident, and make my life easier dealing with all the steps of the claim.

Fortunately i have not had to use the recovery service but all my dealings with Driver Guardian have been first class including renewal,which i may add has not gone up !!

i have not had to use them yet but the staff are very helpfull my son joined and had to call on them they helped him very quickly to get his car to a garage

Brilliant service start to finish, recovered from the motorway, really happy with the guy that came out he was first class.

We where offered an emergent driver as it wasn’t clear I was going to be able to drive, didn’t need it in the end but nice to know that was an option as my wife can’t drive our vehicle.
