Buy local! Don’t waste your money with this company. I ordered $187 worth of plants and bulbs on 9/5/2020. Everything in the order was designated on their website as ‘fall delivery’. On 10/22/2020 I contacted them via their website requesting a refund. By that time we had experienced several hard freezes, temperatures were regularly below freezing at night, and planting the live plants and bulbs was no longer possible. Other than their standard automated responses I heard nothing so contacted them again via their website on 10/30/2020 restating my request for a refund. On 11/2/2020 I received an email from them requesting all previous correspondence regarding the issue. Up to that email, my only correspondence from them had been their automated replies, but I put my two requests and their automated responses together in chronological order and sent it back to them via email. After more automated responses, on 11/6/2020 I receive a shipping notification for my order. Note that I did NOT request the order be shipped, I requested a refund. I contact them again pointing out that I can’t plant either the live plants or the bulbs when they arrive since the ground is frozen. Even if I could dig a hole, the temperatures are below freezing at night so the live plants would die. I’m told, via email, that the live plants and bulbs can be “stored in a cool, dry, and dark place or planted in pots and kept inside until more optimal planting”. These are plants and bulbs that should be planted in the fall. They are expecting me to store them or keep them in pots for almost a year? That’s ridiculous! Now on 12/3/2020 the live plants (half the cost of the order) are dead. The bulbs have been stored in a ‘cool, dry, dark place’ but I seriously doubt they will be viable when I’m finally able to plant them next fall. I would have been far better off spending my money locally and getting quality plants, bulbs AND good customer service. I wish I would have read the reviews before ordering from this company. I hope someone else can learn from my mistake and avoid doing business with this company.

I ordered over $600 worth of plants in early 2019. I received an email that my order had been received and my credit card was charged in February 2019. In April I had no follow up or delivered order, so I called and emailed, left messages. No response. Again I called and emailed on may 15. I received a response may 20th that my order had shipped. 2 weeks later half my order showed up, 2 plants dead and it took until july to get the remaining order and replacements for those that were dead on arrival(july in Missouri not a successful time to plant anything) 2 rose bushes did fine but never came back up in spring 2020. I emailed and called in April 2020 to request replacement for the warranty Rose's. No response. I emailed and called again may 5, may 20 and june 4. I received a response on june 4 (saying allow 2-3 business days for a response) that my request had been forwarded to the appropriate department (still nothing) and since may 20 when I call their phone rings twice then goes to a busy signal. Research today showed MANY similar complaints.

I placed my order in January, I live in Georgia. I should have received my $400 worth of plants in late March/ early April. When it got May and hot in Georgia I sent several emails about the time frame...nothing but a generated email reply blaming things on Covid-19. I finally got to speak with a person...getting the same runaround. Two weeks later I received a package, some of the plants looked good, but ALL of my bulbs were shriveled and dried up! As of yet, none of them have come up. I will NEVER DO BUSINESS with them again!!

When does two pots of flame grass at $17.99 each and shipping/handling for $12.99 equal 2 packages or very light roots?? Answer is if you buy from Dutch Gardens this is what you may get and your shipment will say they were out of pots and substituted the roots without contacting you for your approval. Avoid shopping with this company.

In brief I placed a plant order with Dutch Gardens on 4/22/20. After no shipping notice I emailed an inquiry as to order status on 5/1. After no response I cancelled the order on 5/10. On 5/19/20 Dutch Gardens processed the order anyway and charged my account. Their cancellation policy is not designed for customer satisfaction rather it designed to trap you in your purchase.

In the meantime on 5/10 I ordered the same plant from Hirt’s Garden; received it on 5/14 and by 5/20 when Dutch Garden processed my order my Hirt’s Garden plant had grown 3”.

Do NOT buy from Dutch Garden. DO try Hirt’s Garden.

I will never order another thing from Dutch Gardens!! I placed an order for some items in February (in Georgia we've been planting since then). My order FINALLY arrived in April. I thought to myself they were just busy and I very generously gave them another shot. I ordered another vine to match two vines from my first order and an hibiscus I thought I had ordered originally. Although the vines were pretty scraggly looking the 1st time, I had to make sure all three matched.
After 5.5 weeks of waiting, my order finally arrived again and that hibiscus I wanted so bad is bare root!! THAT made me angry after such an extended period of time. Give me an actual plant for all the weeks you've made me wait! During all this waiting I ordered some things from Georgia's own Wilson Bros. I couldn't have been more pleased!! My items arrived about three days after ordering in packaging that assured no damage. The plants were large, healthy and fresh as if they had been dug up that morning and they did NOT cost me an arm and a leg like orders from DG.
Incredible!! They are now thriving. The things I've ordered from DG....not so much. Buyer beware regarding Dutch Gardens. Apparently they've been around too long!

I have been ordering from Dutch Gardens for a few years. I've always had good experiences with the plants they've sent me and the way they were packed. My only complaint -- and the reason they aren't getting five stars -- is that they don't communicate after the order is made. They don't provide an order confirmation number, no e-mail notifications at all, and it's hard to find out when they intend to ship. However, when my orders have come through, they've been fine, and sent in a timely manner. I guess I've been one of the lucky ones. I usually order by snail mail and send a check with a printed order form from their catalog.

I am updating from my previous review, adding this information, going from four to five stars. Dutch Gardens did communicate with me about my mail-in order from their catalog. They sent me nice, very healthy bulbs, all of which I planted, and are now coming up. Apparently, they only give an order confirmation for online orders, and since I don't shop online, that was why I didn't get one. But my order still came through. They also said they didn't have my e-mail address, but now they are keeping it in their files. Dutch Gardens has been a good company for me to order plants from. They've done the best they can, so merit five stars.

So on March 25th I ordered two, packs of 3, Black Knight Canna bulbs for $76. They are supposed to be tall, with deep red foliage and stunning red flowers.

Three days later I sent an email to Customer service with my order number asking if there was an estimated shipping date, since there was no indication on the order confirmation, also explaining I wanted to get them started early indoors. I get a canned reply that they received my order and are shipping to warmer climates first. I'm in Minnesota.
I wait just shy of a month, now on Apr. 22nd I send another email. Asking for a status and to please just ship the to me. Two days go by and finally I get a shipping notice.

The bulbs arrive in two bags there are 3 TINY canna bulbs in each. Take them out and right off the top, 3 of the bulbs are moldy and feel hollow. I plant them all, get them on heat mats under grow lights, indoors. Of all six planted, only three come up.

Finally it's warm enough to get them outside. As of today, mid-August, the plants are maybe 24" tall, all green foliage and salmon\pink flowers. Total rip off. NEVER AGAIN.

I ordered about $350 worth of flowers to be planted in my garden, and also ordered from one of their competitors. The competitor delivered my items with in two days. Dutch gardens took three weeks to deliver what I ordered. Once received, nothing at all looked like what I was showed online. I was extremely disappointed and called to say I wanted to send everything back. They told me it was fine, just send it back. I did that on May 11th. A month later, I noticed I still had not been refunded. I called and asked about it and was told "they are so busy, it can take over a month to be refunded." That in itself is ridiculous. A little over another month went by and on July 18th, I called because I still didn't see the credit. The woman I spoke to was nice and put me on hold. She came back and told me, "we received your return, but you didn't say that you wanted a refund...." WTF???? Apparently they are the only online business where when you send something back, it is NOT implied you don't want it and would like a refund. I would NEVER order from them again, and suggest you find am alternative.

Ordered 4 things:
1. Roguchi clematis: it’s doing ok for now but was super tiny when I received it. Spent the same amt of money on another clem at Lowe’s that was 15 times the size and is now 30 times the size of the roguchi from Dutch gardens.
2. Passion flower clematis: they were out of stock but never notified me. They shipped a substitute clem-again didn’t ask which one I preferred. The replacement was super tiny and almost completely dead. I planted it anyways. A couple of leaves developed from one twig but died about a week later. What kind of substitute is that?!
3. Peaches and cream honeysuckle: this one is doing pretty well although I’m slightly concerned that they sent the wrong type of honeysuckle. Too soon to tell though-2 months later and only 1 flower.
4. Chocolate vine: doing ok but again, plant was super tiny when I received and not in that great of shape. It supposedly grows like a weed in the philly area so hopefully it will take off at some point.

I think they’re priced are way too high for what you get and customer service is pretty terrible. If you’re looking for stuff that you can’t find at the common home improvement stores, I would take a trek to a nursery to see plants in person. Lesson learned I guess.

I bought about $90 worth of bulbs a few years ago and spent a back breaking afternoon planting them along a fence. I didn't just plop them in the ground, but instead I amended the soil based on what type of bulbs they were and followed the planting instructions to a T. The following spring I anticipated a row of beautiful new flowers. Unfortunately, I got nothing. NOTHING! The bulbs were not dug up by animals, they were not planted incorrectly, they were appropriate for my climate zone, they just didn't grow. I could have planted an empty glass jar and would have probably had better results. I will never buy from Dutch Gardens ever again. I purchased these on July 30, 2002 and only thought about this when looking for some shrubs to buy and Dutch Gardens came up in a search. Better late than never to warn others.

I called Royal dutch and asked them if they were affiliated with 4 seasons nursery. The answer was no we are an independent company. However, when my order went south I complained to them and lo and behold my answer came from " 4 seasons. If I had known that they were part of that company I would have never ordered from them.
It turns out that they are all 4 seasons!! I suggest that do as I did file a complaint with the Postal Police and file a complaint with the attorney general of your state each has a consumer division. Then go on Yelp and tell your story.
What they do is illegal and it involves interstate commerce.

I had a very large order and spoke with a customer representative on the phone named, Dianna. While I was placing my order, I ordered 3 evening primroses and then decided I did not want them during the ordering process. I then asked Dianna to remove them from the order, which she told me she had done. She processed my order, all via the phone. I never received an email confirmation of what I ordered, or saw any type of purchase order information. When my $250.00 order arrived, I was not pleased when I saw that 1 evening primrose had been sent, even though I specifically asked Dianna to remove it from my order. Also they promised free bulbs with large orders and I did not receive the free bulbs either. There was NO packing slip or purchase order information on the box or in the box. I phoned the 800 944 2250 number about 15 times before I finally got through and again I was connected with Dianna. She remembered me and I told her that I had NOT ordered the primrose and had specifically asked her to remove it from my order. I also told her I had not received the free bulb offer. She said that she would CREDIT my account for the primrose which was incorrectly sent and make sure I did receive my free bulbs as promised. HOWEVER , after speaking with a supervisor and leaving me on hold for over 5 minutes, she informed me that I would be required AT MY COST to ship/return the primrose so that I could get a credit. I then spoke to her supervisor and restated that it was an error ON THEIR PART, not mine, and I did not feel I should be required to pay to return a product that they had erroneously sent to me. The supervisor stated, "Your order was over the phone and we have no way of knowing exactly what you said during your order." So she was calling me a LIAR!!!! I said that I had specifically asked Dianna to remove the item, she did not, and I should not be penalized because their company did not have competent individuals. I received no email statement so that I could verify the order, received no shipping/packing label, and had no way to know what was in fact on my order. The supervisor refused to credit my account and I said that I would NEVER use their company again, and that I was going to write a review stating the above. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!

I ordered 4 items on 1/4/18. They immediately charged my credit card the $88 for my order. It is now 5/7/18 and I have received nothing from them. I call every week & they always have some excuse why it hasn’t shipped yet, some of them even laughable. I think I’m out $88. I wish I would have read all the poor reviews on internet before ordering. Buyer beware.

Dutch Gardens hacked on 8/6 and they notify customers ONE MONTH later. Four days later my credit card is hacked. So now I get to spend hours fixing this mess. When I write to tell them I didn't appreciate it, they don't apologize, instead Lecture me on how to fix my credit card, etc. etc. like I'm an idiot. Well, I'm not interested in doing business with them any longer so I write and tell them to cancel the order. What do the sleazebags do? Quickly ship the order out the day after I told them to cancel it. I think they must be Demoncrats - same kind of sleazy reprehensible behavior. Throw their catalogs out.
