In the meantime on 5/10 I ordered the same plant from Hirt’s Garden; received it on 5/14 and by 5/20 when Dutch Garden processed my order my Hirt’s Garden plant had grown 3”.
Do NOT buy from Dutch Garden. DO try Hirt’s Garden.
After 5.5 weeks of waiting, my order finally arrived again and that hibiscus I wanted so bad is bare root!! THAT made me angry after such an extended period of time. Give me an actual plant for all the weeks you've made me wait! During all this waiting I ordered some things from Georgia's own Wilson Bros. I couldn't have been more pleased!! My items arrived about three days after ordering in packaging that assured no damage. The plants were large, healthy and fresh as if they had been dug up that morning and they did NOT cost me an arm and a leg like orders from DG.
Incredible!! They are now thriving. The things I've ordered from DG....not so much. Buyer beware regarding Dutch Gardens. Apparently they've been around too long!
I am updating from my previous review, adding this information, going from four to five stars. Dutch Gardens did communicate with me about my mail-in order from their catalog. They sent me nice, very healthy bulbs, all of which I planted, and are now coming up. Apparently, they only give an order confirmation for online orders, and since I don't shop online, that was why I didn't get one. But my order still came through. They also said they didn't have my e-mail address, but now they are keeping it in their files. Dutch Gardens has been a good company for me to order plants from. They've done the best they can, so merit five stars.
Three days later I sent an email to Customer service with my order number asking if there was an estimated shipping date, since there was no indication on the order confirmation, also explaining I wanted to get them started early indoors. I get a canned reply that they received my order and are shipping to warmer climates first. I'm in Minnesota.
I wait just shy of a month, now on Apr. 22nd I send another email. Asking for a status and to please just ship the to me. Two days go by and finally I get a shipping notice.
The bulbs arrive in two bags there are 3 TINY canna bulbs in each. Take them out and right off the top, 3 of the bulbs are moldy and feel hollow. I plant them all, get them on heat mats under grow lights, indoors. Of all six planted, only three come up.
Finally it's warm enough to get them outside. As of today, mid-August, the plants are maybe 24" tall, all green foliage and salmon\pink flowers. Total rip off. NEVER AGAIN.
1. Roguchi clematis: it’s doing ok for now but was super tiny when I received it. Spent the same amt of money on another clem at Lowe’s that was 15 times the size and is now 30 times the size of the roguchi from Dutch gardens.
2. Passion flower clematis: they were out of stock but never notified me. They shipped a substitute clem-again didn’t ask which one I preferred. The replacement was super tiny and almost completely dead. I planted it anyways. A couple of leaves developed from one twig but died about a week later. What kind of substitute is that?!
3. Peaches and cream honeysuckle: this one is doing pretty well although I’m slightly concerned that they sent the wrong type of honeysuckle. Too soon to tell though-2 months later and only 1 flower.
4. Chocolate vine: doing ok but again, plant was super tiny when I received and not in that great of shape. It supposedly grows like a weed in the philly area so hopefully it will take off at some point.
I think they’re priced are way too high for what you get and customer service is pretty terrible. If you’re looking for stuff that you can’t find at the common home improvement stores, I would take a trek to a nursery to see plants in person. Lesson learned I guess.
It turns out that they are all 4 seasons!! I suggest that do as I did file a complaint with the Postal Police and file a complaint with the attorney general of your state each has a consumer division. Then go on Yelp and tell your story.
What they do is illegal and it involves interstate commerce.
