I ordered my desktop 10 days ago, still no idea when it will be shipped
I sent couple of email about the order status, they don't even reply!
This is not how you treat your customers!
#delivery(1/5) #price(4/5) #refund(1/5) #customer service(1/5)
Furthermore, the order confirmation email never once revealed any info on how long it would take to build and ship the laptop. As a result, I never was aware that it would take them a whole week to ship until after I made the order, and after I had to email in and ask for a status update. As irritated as I was at this point, I patiently waited a whole week. One week later, I still heard absolutely nothing from GenTechPC so I emailed Ken again to ask for an udpate. He replied and said it won't be ready for another few days. At this point I have already missed 10 days of work because my old laptop had broken down and I had no device to do work on.
A whole week has passed since my original purchase, and no communications from the company about the status of my order unless I email them first to ask. I didn't really have a choice at this point and patiently waited ANOTHER 5 days and still absolutely zero updates from GenTech. On May 27th I emailed Ken at GenTechPC yet again to ask if my order has shipped and requested a tracking number. They replied and said they're still working on it and that my order wouldn't ship until a week later.
It was now May 28th and they still don't have the laptop ready. I couldn't wait any longer so I had to take my laptop at this point to a computer repair place to get a fresh new hard drive and installation. This costed me hundreds of dollars in unnecessary expenses. Several days later and still no updates from GenTechPC I emailed them again on what is the status of my order. Ken replied and said: "Little behind but will make sure it within 3 days." I was completely outraged at this point and asked GenTechPC to throw in something for free to my order to make up for all the delays. I heard nothing from them on this request.
Several days later, rather than shipping out my laptop, GenTechPC sent me an email saying that my billing and shipping address were different, so they wanted me to send in a photo ID. Mind you, this was now June - a MONTH after I made my original order. If this was an issue, why did they not address it and asked me to verify ID at the time I made my order? Why not ask for this while they're building the laptop? Why not ask for verification at literally any time in the last month between when I first made my order on May 11th until well into June when they finally were ready to ship? GenTechPC sat and waited for a month, then delayed it longer by asking me to verify ID in a process that either never should have happened or should have happened at the time when the order was made, not a month after the order was made. At this time, I asked GenTechPC to provide me with something complimentary for my order for all the delays, and I'll send in a photo verification. I heard nothing from them for days. I emailed several times asking for an update, and still nothing. On my final email I asked them for an udpate again and Ken from GenTechPC replied saying simply that "The order was canceled."
My experience with GenTechPC has been an experience from hell and I highly recommend that all potential buyers look at my personal experience and don't make the same mistake I made by ordering with this terrible company.
Well I am back again to say I odered a new replacement MSI system from GenTech. I was happy to see Ken and the staff continue to provide the great customer service I experienced with my first purchase. There are many vendors to choose from but I can highly recommend GenTechPC for your next purchase.
Buying such a large dollar item online is a scary decision. Here are a couple of suggestions that could help you make it the right one.
1. Do your reasearch. If you have a question research it on laptop review forums. It is a great community of which GenTech is an active reseller member.
2. Contact or call GenTech with any configuration questions you may have. The ordering forms resellers use can somtimes assume you know more than you do.
3. Use the comment area of the order form to explain any special items or configuration. Provide contact information for any questions.
4. If using a credit card, call them in advance of your order to make them aware of the aprox dollar amount and the vendor. This insures you will not see a delay in ordering.
5. If you are requesting special configuration, understand it takes time to make the mods.
6. After ordering, find something to do that keeps your mind off the new system you just ordered until it is delivered.
These suggestions along with the great service from GenTech has made my online ordering a hassle free experience.
I also bought a Asus laptop for my wife at GenTechPC in 2013, same thing never had an issue at all.
I upgraded most of what could be upgraded. Here almost 6 years later I am still far away from needing a new laptop, and I know where to go when the day comes.
I had a few questions along the way. I called before placing the order, after placing the order, and after receiving the laptop. Every time I called the phone was picked up right away, and it was the same guy, Ken, with whom I spoke. Ken knows what he is talking about.
The bonus freebies (repaste, t-shirt, etc) were a nice added bonus, as was the cash discount. I would highly recommend these guys.
I was pleased when my laptop was shipped sooner than I expected it to.
I had to wait for my tax refund to get this computer and when I got it, it was the first thing I ordered. I ordered my laptop at like 12:30 am the night my refund was direct deposited, which was a Wednesday. Later in the day I got a message stating that my credit card was declined.. error on my part as I didn't enter the billing address correctly. I replied to that email to try again and Ken replied stating it went through and that they would ship my laptop off early next week.
I paid an extra $48 for next day air hoping to get the laptop that weekend. But realistically, that wasn't enough time for them to make the upgrades, so I didn't mind them shipping it Monday or Tuesday. Monday, Tuesday, and half of Wednesday came and went. I sent another email to Ken Wednesday and he replied later in the day that they were behind on their production and that my laptop would be ready to ship tomorrow (Thursday). I understood, it was tax refund season after all. I ended up getting the laptop on Monday because UPS wouldn't ship to my address on Saturday for some reason. So I waited about 10 days from the time I ordered to the time it arrived.
I had ordered a custom dragon logo because it was on sale. Normally it was $39, but they were having a half off sale, so I paid $20 to have the dragon logo made red... cause.. why not. But when I opened the box and turned on the machine, the dragon logo was stock white. Then as I was checking it out my wife noticed it was starting to turn red more and more. Upon inspection, it was obvious this mod is nothing more than a red piece of thin plastic put between the light and the logo.. and it wasn't in there correctly. It was falling down in the screen housing. By the next day, it was completely gone. I am torn here, because I did pay $20 for this feature which wasn't done right, but I actually like the white dragon. Other than paying for something I didn't really get, I'm not bothered by it enough to want to send it back. I haven't contacted Ken about this yet, but it's a little disappointing that it wasn't done right in the first place.
Other than the shipping issue and the custom dragon logo, I am satisfied with my laptop. I have had an issue with the screen going all crazy after exiting Second Life, but after research I discovered this was a Second Life issue and not a computer issue. I have not had a problem with anything else in the last couple days since I got it.
4 stars because the logo was not done correctly and because I was told something different than what actually occurred regarding shipping. I thought Ken's communication was reasonable via email. I would advise against ordering the custom logos though. Not worth it, even at discount.
My story:
In late October, I began shopping for a new computer and after deciding upon a model and researching potential sellers, I finally ordered through GenTechPC. One primary concern for me is the choice of shipper. UPS is solid and reliable in our area and GenTechPC specifically Free UPS shipping. I intentionally avoided other sellers who were either ambiguous about their choice of shipper, or whom specifically listed Fed-Ex, a company with whom in the past we’ve experienced delivery problems. Unfortunately, GenTechPC choose to ship my computer via Fed-Ex. The package was characteristically mis-delivered, resulting in unnecessary distress in getting my computer. GenTech offered no sympathy for my plight with Fed-Ex nor did they acknowledge this choice of shipper as an error on their part.
The Fed-ex delivery cost me plenty of time, heartache, and frustration in discussing the matter with their representatives. I, therefore, asked Fed-ex if there was any compensation they could offer for my troubles, since the error was on their side. Their only pathway to compensation involved refunding the initial shipping costs to the original sender, and thus I’d require GenTech’s cooperation to resolve the situation with Fed-Ex. I explained this situation to GenTech, who took quite a bit of prodding to get any kind of action on their side. They then failed to update me on their progress for over two weeks.
I know that for some of the readers, this is not a major matter. Perhaps, Fed-ex is more reliable in your area. For us, this is not an isolated incident, and we try to avoid them where possible. I specifically and explicitly choose GenTech because of the advertisement to ship through UPS. You wouldn’t tolerate it if they decided to exchange one component in your order for another, especially one of inferior quality. A change in expected shipper is equally unacceptable as a business practice.
TL;DR
Why 5 stars? The instant, engaging feedback of the customer support and the authorization, building, and shipping times I received were all very reasonable/matched up with other 5-star reviews.
Total Time in Business Days to get it shipped (auth + building): 6 days
Total Time in Business Days for UPS to get from Cali to PA: 4 days (17th shipped, 21st going to be recieved)
He installed an upgraded screen for me , which is beautiful.
I had a great experience and have a killer machine and received great service at a fair price. I would buy again from Gentech anytime!
As I live in France, the laptop was mailed to me first time by USPS, which is good. But after entering the French territory, it was handled by Chronopost, who finally ruined the delivery after extended delay. The parcel was returned and re-sent via UPS for the second time. During this time, I've contacted their customer service several times, each time is the guy named Ken who answered my phone call. He was nice and patient, answered every of my questions and helped me smoothed out the delivery problem.
I strongly recommend to at least pay a visit to their website if you are planning to buy a new laptop, it would be very likely that you get a great product and also great service from them.
A few things to note... MSI GS65 dont support 3200MHZ RAM so save some $$$s and go for the 2400MHZ modules. Also for the best performance undervolt -140MV using Intel XTU and step up the turbo boost period to 48s and the turbo boost power max to 65W. This will unleash the beast and get the most value out of the liquid metal and fuji poly mods. I consistently get 1225-1235 on Cinebench R15 multi core scores. The GPU also runs very cool. You can set Afterburner to +230MHZ on the core clock and +500MHZ on the memory clock and get stable performance and safe temperatures across multiple benchmarks and games. On the Intel RST Raid 0 configuration, the controller has a fair bit of overhead. I can get sequential read/ writes of about 3400 MBs from the array which is better than a single drive on writes but random read / writes shows limited improvement and lower scores on sequential queue depth tests. Also note the Intel RST controller operates over the DMI and there is only a single channel of PCIEx4 bandwidth shared by both drives which effectively cuts the link speed in half for a total bandwidth of 4 Gbs. If you use the AHCI setup you will get PCIe x4 bandwidth for each drive. I do notice much better overall performance with the AHCI setup with the exception of sequential writes.
I am so satisfied with my purchase, and plan on coming back to GenTech whenever I upgrade this laptop to a new model. In particular, I loved working with Ken, the GenTech PC customer service rep. He was prompt with replies to my delivery questions, and tirelessly helped me when I had trouble getting the Nvidia game codes that came with my GPU. All around, this was a spectacular custom laptop and customer service experience.
I needed a light, thin and ultra-portable laptop, it needed to have the latest tech (for video/photo editing) as well as a powerful video card for gaming... In the end it came down to the MSI-G60 Ghost pro
I narrowed down to three vendors all offering a custom flavor of the MSI-G60, Origin PC (discarded due to the limited customization options with storage) and GenTech PC vs Xotic PC, in the end GenTech PC had more flexibility with better pricing on the same exact product, so I went with Gentech PC. Little did I know that the experience was going to be the best I've had since the early Alienware days (early 2000's pre-Dell)
Ken was amazing from start to finish, he was extremely knowledgeable in the custom upgrades, he was also very honest never trying to sell any additional stuff that I did not need.
I also needed the Laptop to be delivered in time for a particular day (which was 10 days after ordering it) and out of these three vendors GenTech was the only one that guaranteed the Laptop to be delivered on time which was impressive considering I had made some custom options that would most definitely delay the process, this was by no means a stock configuration.
My new MSI-G60 Ghost Pro arrived exactly 3 days before deadline, the packaging was top-notch, the Laptop had protective sheets in just about every angle, the Windows 10 installation had no issues at all, everything was delivered as advertised and as expected, which is something I had not experienced most of my previous laptops, they all had issues, ranging from very little (software issues) to pretty amazing ones (bad HDD or bad GPU)...
I'm happy about my new laptop, however I'm even more happy to have found a PC boutique that I can come to knowing they are as detailed oriented as I am.
I haven't had the need for support, although I'm confident GenTech will deliver there as well, I'll be sure to provide feedback when I do need to call their support....
Thank you Ken and thank you GenTech PC!
I put the order for a new Aorus Laptop which wasn't in stock, but came a few days later as promised. They did a few upgrades and changes within 5 days. Amazingly fast with both the build time and quality. Also the customer support from Ken is just spot on amazing as he emails usually within 10-15 mins after my questions.
He has been amazing and was even willing to switch out one of the backpacks with an Aorus Backpack to match the laptop!
They will always have me a satisfied customer and I will always recommend GentechPC.
Aorus X7 DT V7 Review
Initial Impressions-
Amazingly built laptop. It feels sturdy, durable, and light for a 17.3" Gaming Laptop.
I travel constantly so having a desktop replacement laptop being around 7lbs/3kg it helps tremendously.
The CPU/GPU combination of i7-7820hk and GTX1080 is phenomenal.
I am running games such as Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Destiny 2, Forza Horizon 3 at Ultra settings @1440p and still getting over 60fps - 90fps.
The temperature aren't too shabby either. I had a re paste with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut and gaming for around 3-4 hours I will only reach a maximum of 85C CPU / 82C GPU.
The display being a TN panel of course won't be as good as an IPS. But the 3k 120Hz refresh is just simply amazing especially at 1440p!
The colors are accurate enough for me, but what tops it off is the 1440p screen!
The Fan noise is pretty quiet when idle, but it does get loud when under load. I always game with headphones so it doesn't bother me much.
Having installed 2 M.2 NVME SSD and 1 2.5" SSD my laptop runs extremely fast with the 32GB Ram as well.
I am loving this laptop. For me this hits all the sweets spots of what I am looking for in a laptop. A high end machine that is portable and can handle anything thrown at it. Paired with a 3k 1440p 120hz screen it is simply the perfect machine for any heavy traveler who loves to game as much as me.
10/10!
Go ahead and buy stuff from them.

I preordered a laptop that is in very high demand and backordered. Ken kept me updated every step of the way and when he finally got the laptop in stock, he shipped that day, for free.
Best of all? I was not asked to write a review, I chose to because of how great Gentech is. You can always tell when a company is sketchy. If they have to ask for reviews, something's up and there's nothing up with Gentech.
