Erin, the tour leader was brilliant but i thought the time in Denali was a day too long and could easily be replaced by another day in the Kenai Peninsula. Accommodation in Denali was below expectations and that in Maclaren Lodge was little short of dreadful. There must be some alternative, perhaps driving from Denali early in the morning rather than 1.30pm?

The guide prepared us very well in anticipation of each location we were going to be, by pointing out the areas in the maps, verbally describing the wonderful scenery we were passing through, stopping at viewing spots for picture taking, describing the particular location we were going to be spending a few days and the activities available, putting on a cd for extra information and appropriate music for relaxation. She was extremely knowledgeable about the areas we visited and answered our questions to the best of her knowledge.PERFECT!

I spoke with three different agents from Grand American Adventures. Each of them could not have been more helpful and caring, with thorough explanations and advice about the tour that I was booking. Alex, the first agent, was especially good.
Just hoping now that the tour lives up to this initial high standard.

I found a TrekAmerica trip on the internet. I made some inquiries about it in writing. An American adventure specialist got back to me and recommended a similar tour better fitting my case (based on age info).

The Appalachian Trail trek was just brilliant thanks to the expertise and experience of our AMC guide and the support provided by the AMC organisation. I was less impressed by the GAA set up. There was no contact from the company and the first night hotel had not been booked.

All good at Australian end.However bit surprised that the trip for the date I had selected was suddenly cancelled about 9 months in advance.

A fabulous trip of a life time made very enjoyable and memorable by our excellent tour leader Jay. His passion for the nature, knowledge of the environment, excellent attitude and care for his guests made this trip exceptional.
Highly recommended and Jay is the best.

This is the second trip I have done with Grand America and both were fantastic! I will be booking a third. If you enjoy something a bit more adventurous even though you are older, then this is the tour company for you I cannot recommend highly enough. I was fortunate to get the same guide twice and Tim was brilliant both times.

Excellent tour with an excellent guide (Wess) who provided lots of insight and was always ready to help out. Travelling with a small group is ideal. The sights were breathtaking and campgrounds ideally situated.

I am still waiting to hear if this trip can be transferred to next year, but so far nobody has got back to Exodus Travels to confirm or otherwise. Still in limbo, would like to rebook or get my money back

I had great customer care service from Grand American Adventures. Helpful telephone conversations, flight booking service and seat allocation just before I flew on all my flights which helped a lot.

I received an email that they had tried to reach me by phone about the cancellation of my June trip. I have no record of any such phone call. I responded to their email about rescheduling. voucher, etc. That was several days ago & I haven't received any response. I understand they are very busy, but I have a plane ticket, trip insurance, & I would like to reschedule the trip so would like to speak to them asap.

Good Points:
* The tour leader worked very hard to ensure we made the most of our time in Canada. I'm very appreciative of her efforts.
* Canada is an excellent destination with many memorable sights.
Criticisms:
* The tour is badly structured with many days being rushed.
* The cancellation of the Inside Passage ferry was known for some time and should have been addressed prior to the tour. A 6+ hour journey in what was effectively the nautical equivalent of a yellow cab (that left over an an hour later than scheduled) was not an adequate substitute.
* The whale watching tour was the most disappointing experience I have had on any trip. The 'waterproofs' were anything but. The experience was akin to sensory deprivation as it was frequently impossible to see or hear anything. This was obviously the cheapest option available. This, along with the inadequate option used for the Inside Passage trip, sends the message that, despite charging premium prices, Grand American Adventures offers the minimum of service for its travelers.
