"Disappointed and Shocked"- CFA Level 2 Student,

I have studied for CFA Level 1 and 2 with Kaplan UK. Recently in June I didn't pass my level 2 exam. So I inquired about the "Pass Guarantee " that was offered with my course. This where the sharp business tactics of Kaplan came out. They said " You are only entitled to Weekday reversion course". I did weekend/Evening course with them and asked why I shouldn't get the same course for free? They said it is part of their terms which are never disclosed to the students when they sign-up( via a third-party).They are only disclosed when you FAIL and have to pay extra money so much for the "PASS Guarantee"- According to Kaplan they don't need to disclose the terms of "Resit" when student sign up because that is a different course, not that it is being offered as part of the initial course and Guarantee within it. Talk about making mockery of the "Ethics and Transparency " they teach in their courses.

Currently studying F9 Live Online on an evening (not sure if I'm allowed to give the name of the tutor). The Tuition course itself is only eight lectures in total when by looking at the size of the syllabus you would expect to receive ten (as you do for F6). There are numerous home study chapters which seems odd since we're paying for the tuition course and most if not all of the syllabus should be taught. The tutor rushes through every topic and so far it seems it's all gone over my head so I'm having to redo the lectures. The workings she does on screen are unorganised and just not very neat. she mentioned she had put together the workbook which makes sense since she reads through it very quickly not really explaining much, perhaps she assumes we've read the text book already I'm not sure! We did have a different tutor for two of the lectures who was absolutely brilliant. She explained everything so well and wasn't just reading through text & rushing. If the syllabus is too large and tutors feel they have to rush through and allocate more than two chapters for home study then perhaps Kaplan need to allocate more than eight lectures for the tuition course.

Kaplan Law School - not a great experience overall and the quality of teaching is poor, I’ve since moved on from a legal role which involved an employment dispute, don’t trust Kaplan with your career and future prospects, you might end up working in a sector or industry that you hadn’t planned on working in, it’s a shame that I dedicated time and effort to qualifying as a lawyer without achieving this goal in spite of many interviews at law firms such as BWB, BLP, Freeths, Kingsley Napley, DWF, Charles Russell Speechleys, Speechley Bircham, Penningtons Manches, IBB, Stewarts Law, Clarke Willmott,

Always had a very good experience with Kaplan, Studied with them for a couple of years now and the materials and teaching are always spot on.

However, I have recently changed jobs and will be paying for the rest of my studies myself. I requested a payment plan which were advertised as being payable over 12 months. This would only actually be true if you were booking to study in a years time as the payment plan needs to end by the time the course finishing, slightly misleading. Initially I said no to the payment plan as I tried to find an alternative way to spread the cost but in the end decided I would have to go with Kaplans payment plan. I replied to the email chain with the payment plan I had originally been sent. I have had zero response and have sent 6 chasing emails copying in any email addresses I had for anyone at Kaplan and for some reason keep being ignored. It's now 3 weeks into the live online course so I doubt I'll be able to watch any lectures live if at all.

Only reason I'm writing a review is that I've seen the reviews sometimes get a response.

I wish I could give - 10, been with Kaplan for years had a good time doing my foundation, they changed to policy on payments per module did not inform correctly and when starting on BA top up I have stress-related issues and could not continue at the time I then left the course only did 2 weeks, when my statement came from Student Finances it had an extra 2650 on it for the BA!!!!! year so I phoned, emailed multiple times bounced around everywhere finally got advised to make a complaint when I finally got around to this just received a email from CAROL DADD below

"I draw your attention to the section entitled: ‘Who can complain using this procedure’ on page 1, which states:
‘Students who have recently left a programme may only raise issues of the complaint within three months after their conferral of award or withdrawal from the program’"
what a joke!! I even told them put me back on any modules to make me feel better that at least I am getting something back for my money!!! and they still refused!!!

what a joke, I am now going to the ombudsman to see what advice they can, it seems that making money is getting easier for thieves and then hiding behind policies.

On the 19th of March 2020 I ordered ACCA Taxation (TX) Study Text FA19 June 2020-March 2021 and exam Kit.
I was very careful not order the old version (FA18 2018/2019), which was still available to buy at the time (for exams dates already passed!??). For the “new editions” I had to click on the FA18 line and then it changed to the FA19 option, which I chosen. I continued my shopping from the FA19 option, but to my surprise the FA18 version was sent to me.
In the order process, the basket does not give you a detailed summary of the ordered items to double check, before the payment process. The only details it shows “ACCA Taxation (TX) Study Text”. Find this misleading.

Called customer service and I was told that it was my fault ordering the old books and the reason for selling old and expired learning materials is that people might need it still for their March Exams. The March exams were already over at the time I ordered those books!!
So my question is: WHY KAPLAN IS SENDING EXPIRED BOOKS?????
I paid £66 for these expired books and now have to order again! Contacted customer service by email as I was advice on the phone, there was no answer for 3 weeks now.
Have been using Kaplan for a years, but this experience was so disappointing, I will need to rethink to start to use another learning provider in the future.

Recently, i realised my study materials were now outdated as they related to September 19/June 20, unfortunately due to Covid-19 the June exams were cancelled, meaning i would have to sit the September exam.

I first spoke to someone who told me the syllabus would be changing substantially and nothing could be done to help, so i had to figure out any changes myself. After calling back extremely frustrated with this response, I came across Luke Beswick who was so so helpful! Although i could not be offered a new course to fit the September syllabus (this was in line with policy and not his fault), Luke persisted to check with his senior to see what could be done to help me, he then elaborated on all of my options and advised of the best route to take. Besides being friendly and reassuring, he seemed really knowledgeable about ACCA, and was also very attentive and got back to me quickly!

In future, i will always ask to speak to Luke as i know he will go above and beyond to sort any issues :)

I am currently working on an on demand program for the December exam sitting of ACCA. The training system in its self is very broken up and requires constant interaction, making it impossible to set it running and listen along to the lecture for any extended period of time. This is understandable as it keeps you engaged.

Then we come to the test questions. This evening alone I have come across 3-4 errors in the questions. Apparently 25/100=20% and other similar situations that just show a complete lack of proof reading before the program is made available to students. I find this completely unacceptable when looking at the price I have been asked to pay for the package.

The actual interface itself is very difficult to use and really doesn't flow from topic to topic. It involves coming in and out of different pages to move to a new topic without a way to just move on to the next section.

Overall I am very disappointed with the package as I have paid a large sum of money to gain access.

I'm currently on a Consulting apprenticeship with a Big 4 firm, with Kaplan as the learning provider- whilst the apprenticeship itself is excellent (as a result of the projects you work on & experience you gain), the services provided by Kaplan are absolutely abysmal.

Without overstating things:
- The coaches/tutors assigned to each apprentice have absolutely no idea what they're supposed to do- none of us have found them to be useful in any regard in our first year of the apprenticeship, and most of us have had 3-5 different coaches, because of how poor they are at doing their jobs. All they've done is carry out regular 'reviews' where someone with absolutely no understanding of the course asks you preset questions on what you've done over the past few months, before sending this straight back to you. Nothing is gained from the exchange as they have no understanding of your job, or indeed the course they're supposed to be supporting you on.
- When you require support on the course (for a tickbox personal review that needs to be submitted at the end of it), your Kaplan coach is almost useless. You have to submit various draft reviews to them in-line with their deadlines. They then conduct a double review of your personal review (since your coach doesn't have a sufficient understanding of the course to fully review it themselves) and then give you feedback that contradicts the advice you were given prior to submitting your personal review (which they also give way over their own deadlines).
- The learning material/exams/course are awful and barely relevant to Consulting- everything that is relevant is 'taught' to you once you've already figured it out for yourself. You certainly aren't taught anything past A Level.
- The tutors are dull and don't seem to have any interest in how well the students actually do.
- Communications received from Kaplan are normally contradictory.

In summary, Kaplan offer nothing beneficial at all- if I had a choice between having Kaplan as a learning provider pro gratis or having no learning provider at all, then I'd opt for the latter.

I've been a Kaplan student for nearing 4 years, I tried another leading provider but found Kaplan to be more organised.
I can't fault the London Bridge campus, the teachers are phenomenal, especially Luckie, Neil & Chris.
It's always organised and they're experts who want to help.
Student Services are obviously very busy so sometimes emails go a while without being answered, but on the phone they're very responsive and will do their best to accommodate even in situations where I may have misread something or missed up. I have a couple of notes about some of the content but Kaplan has a method where you can submit feedback so hopefully they pick those up too.

I purchased the F2 on demand course in January 2018. I found the course particularly difficult and sat the exam 3 times, and failed between Jan and Sept 2018. Throughout these months my course was still available on my Kaplan.

I made numerous complaints about the videos on the course, as often they were unwatchable with green patches flashing onto the screen and the video sometimes going into photograph negatives.

I decided to take a break from studying until after christmas- to return this month- January 18- to find that I cannot access my material.

I also found out that some of the course had changed. I contacted the student services to be told that I cannot have access to the materials so they are essentially useless.

What is the point in an on demand course- to allow you to study flexibly- if they set you a deadline on how fast you have to sit the exam.

This is my third and final exam I will sit through Kaplan. I am disgusted that for the price you pay they cannot send you 4 sheets showing the F2 changes, when you have paid for the course. I will advise every young professional I meet hoping to study not to use this provider.

#delivery(3/5) #price(3/5) #quality(3/5) #customer service(3/5) #on-time(3/5)

After studying levels 2 & 3 of AAT at my local college I thought I would give distance learning a go for level 4 as it was a bit cheaper and my local college didn't offer any flexibility on the optional subjects whereas through distance learning I could choose these myself.
I wanted to study using the live online classes but after looking on the Kaplan website I was a bit wary as the way the courses were laid out was quite confusing and the subjects I needed to take all seemed to be around the same starting dates (either Oct/Nov or Jan/Feb) with very little flexibility. (I work full time so can only study in the evenings and as a sales ploy they give you a discount if you book all the subjects in one go so you feel pressured to do this to save yourself some money).
After asking some of my colleagues at work who have studied with Kaplan, they advised me that the course content would be available for about a year so with this knowledge I thought it would be OK to go ahead and book the course and I could spread out the dates I would study each subject as I believed I had enough time to study these one by one watching the prerecorded videos.
I got off to an OK start watching the first subject (MDCL) using live online classes and keeping up with the weekly lessons but after lesson 4 or 5 you could tell that the tutors are under a lot of pressure to try and get through everything in the workbooks in the set amount of lessons and they do not have the time to go through everything properly and help to explain things to you so I started to struggle. They also set a lot of the work that should be covered in lessons as homework so if you work full time and have other commitments it gets very hard to keep up with everything.
I got through everything as best as I could, even buying additional study materials from other providers to help improve my knowledge and get some extra question practise and I booked my exam 2 weeks after the course end date which was the recommended amount of time by my tutor but not once in that whole amount of time did I feel comfortable or like I was ready to be taking this exam.
The live online classes for my 2nd subject (BSTX) started about 3 weeks into studying MDCL so I started to study BSTX using the recordings that were saved in MyKaplan and watched as many recordings as I was able to a week until I caught up with the live lessons. I started to feel very rushed and again missed out on a lot of vital information trying to get back up to speed. 5 weeks into BSTX I got my exam results back from MDCL and found out I had failed by quite a large margin. It was around this time that I got a notification from Kaplan about optimal course timings (the very first time I had seen anything like this since first signing up) and this was when I first discovered that each course was only available for 3 months from the date of the last online lesson so this instantly threw me into a panic and I dropped the BSTX lessons to go back and restudy MDCL again and got my resit booked in. Once again I really struggled to get my head around the basics and even ended up taking extra time off from work to try and go over as much as I could but by the time the exam rolled round, I felt more confident but still not 100% ready.
After dropping everything from BSTX to resit the MDCL getting back into BSTX was really hard and I struggled to remember the topics covered earlier in the course and once again I started to fall behind. (As the tutors recommended the best time to take the exams were 2-3 weeks after the last lesson date I had already booked in the exam for this before I found out my first MDCL result) so once again I went into another exam not feeling too confident about being ready to take it.
After this I had a holiday booked so I decided to take a few weeks off from studying (as I was definitely feeling he pressure from everything) and just relax.
After my holiday I had 2 new subjects that had already started a month prior so I decided to start with FSLC as it was longer and then take MABU after as this was a much smaller subject. I had already booked in the exams for these before starting as my local exam centre gets booked up quite far in advance.
A couple of weeks into starting my FSLC course I get my MDCL results and once again I have failed. Feeling very disheartened I decide to go ahead with the FSLC course and not drop everything again as I did previously so I can have a clear head so I keep going. A few weeks later I also get the results back from my BSTX exam and once again it is another fail. At this point I start to wonder if it is even worth continuing on this course and start to look into jumping straight to ACCA. After once again speaking to a couple of my colleagues they advised that if I spoke to student services they should be able to extend my course for another 6 months or so as that had happened to them previously.
I contacted student services and after a couple of days I received a reply letting me know that they were only able to extend my MDCL course by 3 months, meaning it would run out 2 weeks after taking my MABU exam, meaning I would not have any where near enough time to go back through everything and feel exam ready. I was also advised that if I wanted to extend any further I would have to pay for each 3 month period and that the free 3 months was only for one subject and was discretionary.
I was told then by the student services team that this information was in the terms and conditions so I looked back through my info received and discovered that the terms and conditions were attached to an email sent to me 2 hours after I had already signed up and booked the course and the information they were referring to was down on page 8 in a very confusing table layout that meant the course could have ranged any time from 3 months to 6 as AAT is labelled several times.
I consider myself lucky and as my employers feel that this is not good enough they have agreed to pay for my extension to my tuition but it is the people that are unable to do this that I feel bad for.
The course duration information is an important part of choosing who to study with and this information should be made available on the website and made obvious to anyone who may be looking to book a course so they are able to make an informed decision and choose what would be best for them. Not for them to pay £2.5k and then find out later.

All in all not very happy with the service and will definitely be looking elsewhere for the rest of my studies.

#delivery(3/5) #price(3/5) #quality(3/5) #customer service(3/5) #on-time(3/5)

I'm currently studying CIMA with Kaplan through a mix of both classroom and distance learning, and I have had very mixed experiences.

On the one hand, the tutors in classroom (Manchester) are great and can't do enough to help you, however the study materials and the customer service are another story...

Firstly, the materials, especially since this 2019 syllabus change have been terrible (based on E2 and P2). They're riddled full of errors, from small things like typos and duplicating the same pages in the study text, to some completely confusing content in the exam practice kits that is completely omitted from the study text.

Out of all of the study material issues, it's the exam preparation material that is the most frustrating though. There were a significant number questions in the E2 practice kit that are not referenced at all in the 'detailed' study text (which mostly just feels like a list of bullet points and advantages/disadvantages of the syllabus areas). I raised this with the Kaplan support team, as I was approaching my exam and was concerned that I may have some significant knowledge gaps and I did not receive a response for 3 weeks, long after I had already sat my exam! Even more annoying was the fact that the response just acknowledged that they had done a poor quality control job on the exam kit, which was ironic given it was the E2 kit, which in the syllabus content places a focus on Total Quality Management and a zero defect mentality.

After just sitting my P2 exam yesterday I'm equally disappointed in some of the practice kit materials, specifically the mock exams, as I know others in my class were. The Kaplan questions are so unrepresentative of what you get in the exam, that it's pointless even attempting the mocks unless you want your confidence knocking, as there is physically no way you can answer some of their in depth questions in the 90min window. Their software is also very poor, in that although it looks like the real CIMA exam, it doesn't work smoothly like the real one. Any question that has a graphic or interacticity in it has at best 50/50 chance of loading and being stuck in the loading phase indefinitely, wasting precious time as you have to keep coming back to them hoping they're going to load this time.

In summary, I could not recommend Kaplan to anyone thinking if studying with them, not for the price that they charge which is extortionate for the level of service they provide. BPP is equally expensive, but I'm thinking of switching to them simply as I'm very unhappy with Kaplan.

1 star is far too much for Kaplan. Having spent THOUSANDS with this company, thinking they would value the loyalty along with care about the service they provide and want to correct the wrongs in their service if they failed to deliver. I learnt the hard way, they do NOT care. My fellow ACCA students, please avoid this company at all costs. I know its hard trying to study alone, so we go to these institutions thinking once they take our hundreds of pounds for just one course, they will of course deliver information to a high standard and equip you with knowledge that you can use and go and pass your exams. I tell you from my experience, you are better off doing this with another company. My colleague who was with BPP laughed at my loyalty with Kaplan, considering what she had gotten in comparison to me in terms of materials and support.
I would even advise to try and use free resources such as Open Tuition, or something more affordable such as Learn Signal instead of this company. I recently signed up for the REVISION class for APM, I highlight that this was revision as the Tutor gave us an overpriced Question Based Day, for three full days. Which means we were in silence for the most part. The revision class was £769 for 3 days. From this, you would expect after these 3 days, you would get an overview of this material, right? Sure, you cant get every chapter done in 3 days, but the overview? It's revision, so he should condense the material, give you tips, tricks and techniques and sweet nuggets of information that I can use to help in the last couple of weeks of revision? Right? Surely, as otherwise why have I paid £769? Well, thats all wrong, what Kaplan delivered was a tutor that was gave you 0 of the above. As far as him saying 'you don't even need the materials as the exam isn't technical', didn't even give you any extra handouts that you couldn't get if you weren't on the course, didn't write down anything on the board for you to take away, despite the class asking for this constantly. The class also asked for him to give us an overview of the topics, as this was REVISION. Did he provide revision? No. What he gave was the laziest approach to teaching I have ever seen. He sat on a table with his feet on the chair, and gave us a question with no background and said 'go do it', followed by a little chat. When speaking to most of the class, they were all infuriated with the fact that we had paid for a overpriced question based day, where most of the time you are doing the questions alone. We spent most of 3 days in silence, reading the question and then attempting the question ALONE! His remark when we asked to do this together 'you will all be in the exam alone, I won't be there to do this with you'. So, what did we come here for then? What did we pay money to Kaplan for then? If this tutor is saying we don't need the materials, don't need to learn the topics and on top of that we're doing all the questions (WITHOUT overview), what on earth are we all here for? And furthermore, why on earth has Kaplan designed a revision course that provides 0 revision? We (myself and multiple students) complained to Kaplan, I sent my complaint on the second day, after approaching the Tutor directly on the first asking privately if he can teach us! If he can actually write things down, as we had all tried to ask him multiple times in class, but he did not care and so did not listen. Now, with Kaplan having my complaint, and seeing how much I've spent with them, AND received many complaints from many students, you would think they would do right by us. I would think as having spent Thousands with them, they would do the right thing and make up for providing a despicable service.
I could have utilised those days so close to the exam, with only around 10 days left, losing those days cost me not only my money but my time, which you are itching to get more of so close to the exam. They dumped further stress on us all which we all didn't need at such a crucial time, and they could not care less about it. The complaints department takes 14 days to get back to you, once they went through it all, their idea of a 'resolution' was disgusting, this is how much they cared about us and the fact they did not deliver a course that taught us anything, so they offered £76.90 (10%) of our course and a:
'All our tutors are qualified to a high standard and we encourage tutors to bring their own style so they are comfortable teaching the module. I understand that not all tutor styles will suit each student and can only apologise that you felt disappointed with the tutoring style provided in your revision course'.
Which basically means.......If we don't deliver, that's on you! We don't care if we didn't deliver as we can hide behind the idea that so many students complained but we'll just put that 'not all tutor styles will suit each student'. On a professional paper the pass marks are so very low, the anxiety you feel as a student when you are revising is intense, and you pay so much money to these institutions thinking they will add value to your revision, to gain information that others that didn't attend could not get. But instead, you get the worst of the worst, a tutor that doesn't know how to teach, can't even be bothered to write/teach/stand in class, a non-existing customer service. Once they have your money, they'll catch you out with their fine print terms and conditions, loyalty means nothing to them just as customer care doesn't. This can be seen by the Complaints Officer conclusion to her e-mail, 'Please note that unless you have new information this is our final conclusion.' What new information would be needed? Many students expressed to the tutor his style was not working, did he care? No. We requested from him privately to provide REVISION and not a QBD, did he listen? No. We then complained to the complaints dept, did they provide us our money back for not delivering? No. Did they give us credit on our account at least to make up for the below par, waste of time deliverance of the tutor? No. What they gave was the minuscule £76.90 offer which you cannot even purchase any course from their site with. What more information is needed when students have told you that you did not deliver, this tutor (if we can call him that, it's an insult to good teachers that care in my opinion) did not teach and multiple students including myself are having breakdowns from his abhorrent approach to teaching. That's how much Kaplan could care less about you. They deliver NOTHING in return for close to £800 of my money. The stress on day 3 of this course reduced me to tears knowing that my time and money had been so wasted. I called the customer 'support' department in order to talk to a manager, lo and behold, no manager is available to talk, no manager cares enough about any of us to try and resolve the issue. Instead the customer representative mentioned all correspondence is by email and no manager can take your call, that is the complaint policy. A few weeks later I returned the Complaint Dept email, as nor her or customer service mentioned a time frame to reply within to appeal. A reply came from the Complaint Officer yesterday stating there was an apparent 7 day time frame to reply and appeal, those fine print terms and conditions are then stated for them to hide behind. Yet, this wasn't articulated on the phone nor in her last e-mail? How very strange. The BEST PART in her reply, 'I have spoken with my manager and now that the complaint has been closed, they are more than happy to give you a call to discuss this. However please note, that this will not change the resolution of this complaint.'
Absolutely hilarious, now that the case is closed and we will do nothing about your complaint you are free to talk to a manager. That's what Kaplan calls customer service.
Please my fellow ACCA students, save your cash, because paying such a company as them is equivalent of throwing money in a gutter. APM has around the 30% pass rate, you would think the revision course would be constructed in such a way that Each student will have felt a positive impact has been attained on their revision and they were better off for taking their time to attend these courses than regret it. I speak on behalf of those in my class that also felt the same, we learnt nothing from this tutor, and Kaplan, now having our money, are happy to turn their backs and sum up and say 'that's too bad'. The tutor came in wanting to pass his time and waste ours, that's the sort of approach it was. Imagine a tutor saying you don't even need the materials and do not need to learn technical information, as again THIS IS NOT A TECHNICAL PAPER, and then when posed with an exam question, you see there definitely is TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE NEEDED and this is to be applied.

SAVE YOUR MONEY, unless - you want to fail, then Kaplan is the company for you, because they most definitely do not care about your success. Just as much as they do not care about the service they deliver, they can tell you that through their words in an e-mail, but their actions display the opposite. They are extremely happy for a manager to call you to....not resolve a thing? Laughable customer service.

Again, Believe me, you are better off with using the free resources from ACCA. I am kicking myself thinking that Kaplan would provide, and if not make up from it as it was not an isolated student that complained, but multiple. When you see their responses, it is sickening to know how much they do not care and are so unwilling to resolve things, they throw some change at you in comparison to what you have paid, and call this a 'resolution', throw their hands up and say 'we are sorry if you are not happy with this resolution' and that is that. Diabolical and so shameful that they advertise how much they are there for students when in actuality, once the money has reached their account, you are on your own!!!

CIMA STUDY student

Been using cima study through Kaplan for a couple of years now. The online content is littered with mistakes, and even shows incorrect equations - which is so concerning for a student! How do we know what we are learning is correct? I often use external sources to get the right info!

The test yourself questions and answers are the same, just full of wrong information. I put most of this down to typo's and bad copy and paste jobs.

My question is, why does nobody proof read these?? if i am paying X amount to study. Why am i paying for incorrect information which is detrimental to my learning.

In my opinion, each page should have a report function. Where the students can report these mistakes, which would directly link Kaplan to the source page / question. So far, my opinion of Kaplan is awful and would recommend any future accountants to use an alternative route.

I have had to chase my 'talent coach' a number of times to book me onto the rest of my course, when he finally did this he had booked me onto a unit that clashed right in the middle of my other unit. I requested for this to be changed but nothing has been done about it. I also requested for my exam date to be changed as he had put me in for a date that I had a class on, when i chased this up i was told I have been marked as absent for my exam because he hadn't changed it. So why was I not contacted regarding 'not turning up' to an exam? I have been trying to get in contact with my talent coach for over 6 weeks and I haven't had any response from him!
