I'm just back from a two week intensive 1-2-1 programme, including homestay, at LTL Beijing. My objectives were general improvement, increased confidence and more opportunities to speak Chinese. My work brings me to China a couple of times a year, and I'd got to the point where I felt bad continuing to rely on everyone else's English!

I arrived with a very small amount of Chinese (the absolute basics), but I left completely overwhelmed by just how much more I was able to learn and achieve in two weeks. I don’t really put this down to my knowledge or ability at all, but instead to the intensive focus and the quality of the teaching and the learning environment.

I wasn’t too sure what to expect on the first day, but after quick introductions we got straight in, learning really useful and applicable topics. I found the structured approach extremely productive. The textbooks are helpful for independent revision and review afterwards - but the 1-2-1 format meant we could also have wider or more flexible discussions. I felt like the lessons were totally tailored to my needs.

The topics are brought to life through really useful and interesting exercises, role plays and listening tasks. I found the format really beneficial, with a big focus on practical work, increasing vocabulary and essential grammar. Both my teachers were really warm, focused and encouraging. The lessons were intense but really enjoyable and most of all, hugely productive.

I was also really pleased I decided to include the homestay. I’ve always loved Beijing, but living there for a couple of weeks with a family, adopting a new daily routine and experiencing the city as a local was really special. The LTL team were fantastic throughout – special thanks to Jacqueline, Serena, Sunny, Jane, Ruth, Katie and Alice!

My confidence and language level have definitely improved - and I feel totally surprised and really proud of what I was able to achieve in just two weeks with LTL.

I studied Mandarin two weeks around mid March @ LTL, Shanghai . I had 3 diffent teachers; one for group class, 2nd for 1 on 1 and 3rd one for Chinese characters. I found all of them highly qualified, professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. They were pedagogue and patient with foreign students like me so we understand Mandarin in a simpler way. LTL employees were very nice and helpful. They are very attentive and willing to help for any type of problems during your stay. The regular event like group diner, language mix or other organized by their team really helps to understand Chinese food & culture. I highly recommend this school for anyone willing to step in for a new adventure in Shanghai..

Having now spent 6 weeks at LTL, I would happily recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of social events to meet people and see the city. The staff are super friendly and the teachers are really professional. The place to learn mandarin in Beijing!

"My first month at LTL Mandarin School"

Deciding to move abroad and study is a good investment that creates a lot of expectations. LTL met and exceeded those expectations in many ways. I am currently studying full time at LTL in Shanghai with a one year program.

LTL is a relatively small school and they manage to put significant effort into each and every student. This makes it comfortable as a newcomer to settle into very a different city like Shanghai. For example, during my first week the school helped me with setting up a Chinese bank account which I really appreciated.

People from all over the world study at LTL, the best part of it is that you can all relate to each other around the shared goal of learning Mandarin. Therefore you’ll find yourself in a very enthusiastic and positive environment.

You can tell that the teachers really enjoy their work which is important. They are able to achieve classes that are educational and fun at the same time, relating the language to a lot of concepts that you already know regardless of where you’re from. I also believe that a part of what makes the teaching great is the small size of the classes. It makes it easy for you to feel like you’re always understanding because you have time to ask questions.

My goal is to reach HSK 5 by the end of my program. I have a long way to go still but after discovering how much a good school like LTL helps your progress I’m even more motivated to improve. That is why I recommend LTL to anyone interested in learning Mandarin Chinese!

I attended an intensive 1:1 course at LTL Mandarin School in Taipei, Taiwan for 7 weeks.

I am very happy with the experience! In particular, I liked the customization of the course to suit my needs and interests. The school is very well thought-out, and even the facilities and space for learning offered by LTL were fantastic.

Not only the teachers I had, but the other teachers that taught at LTL, and the staff were very welcoming, and always considerate about supporting student progress.

My Chinese has improved drastically, and I wish I could stay longer and keep learning. I look forward to coming back in the future to continue learning Chinese with LTL! Next time I'll be sure to try the homestay.

I spend two weeks in the ltl school in Bejing, during the "live and teach" programme. I lived with a warm Chinese family close metro line 7. My school day was from 10-17, with two parts group classes one part 1 and 1 classes. Before the arrival I had done some Skype interviews, and I was placed in a class which fit my level really good. My teachers were really good, and I enjoyed their different teaching styles. It was amazing feeling my Chinese level improve so fast. I have had bad experiences with Chinese courses before, that's why I only chose two weeks, but I deeply regretted, that I had to leave just when I could feel my improvements. I would definetly recommend ltl if you are prepared to study and work hard. :)

I have been studying at LTL for 10 weeks and I absolutely love it here. The teachers are great and the student community is a ton of fun. I started out not knowing any Chinese and have made a ton of progress. I can carry on basic conversations and write funny stories in Chinese. I have made a ton of friends through the school and they have made my time in Shanghai awesome! I highly recommend LTL for anyone looking to study Chinese in Shanghai!

I spent a week in Beihai with LTL. Beihai was great the weather was amazing it is right by the beach and the seafood is great. I had 4h of class per day, the teacher was very professional and it was clear she has experience teaching Chinese to foreigners. The class was focused on speaking which was exactly what I needed. The teacher recommended places to eat and things to try while in the city.

The organization was great, they managed my booking with out any problem and they helped me with everything. Overall a great experience.

This is my 4th time in China, and the 2nd studying at a language school. I came with a HSK level around 2-3 and I am very surprised to see how much my language skills developed in an immersive environment in just 1 month after me being here. In February I will attempt to pass HSK 4. LTL arranged the accommodation with a Chinese home stay family that is indeed very prepared to receive foreign students. I have just entered the second month in my language program, now with 1-on-1 lessons, and I can say, from the 4 teachers I’ve had during this period, that they are very qualified and prepared. The staff is nice and very helpful, specially Jane who always arranges tours and traditional activities for the student to join, like dumpling making, calligraphy lesson, excursions to museums and as for this week a movie night. I made the right choice coming to LTL!

I was a student at Live the Language Mandarin School in Beijing for about ten months before spending another two months doing their immersion program in Chengde.
During my time in China I took both group and individual classes, lived with homestay families and on my own and took part in several trips and activities organized by the school. I basically experienced everything LTL offers and absolutely recommend it to everyone interested in learning Mandarin! The school is located conveniently and provides a perfect atmosphere for learning, since there are usually only around 5-6 people per group class, sometimes even fewer. Also, classrooms are bright and comfortable.
I was taught by at least 4-5 different teachers in Beijing, and another one in Chengde. While they have different teaching styles, they are without exception excellent at what they do. All of them, as well as the staff of LTL are always helpful and motivated. I did not speak a word of Mandarin before studying at LTL, in the end I passed the HSK 5 exam (Level C1) with a pretty high score. I met or know of several other people who made similar progress which really shows the high quality of the school. I also want to encourage everybody to spend some time in Chengde. Living in a "small" city where foreigners are a rare sight and people generally do not speak English had a huge impact on my speaking skills. I made friends with locals easily by joining a football team. On top of that, my host mom was amazing. All of that helped improve my Chinese so much and I still stay in touch with friends that I have made there.
Besides the classes and immersion possibilities, some of my best memories in China are the regular school dinners and trips. You get to try different kinds of restaurants with great people. The trips I have been on include a regular one to a not fully restored part of the Great Wall where you get to enjoy it without any tourists around. Another one that really stands out was the school trip to Xian. We visited the famous Terracotta Army and had a great time sightseeing in general.
I honestly believe that there is no better place or way to learn Mandarin.

I really enjoyed my 3-week 1-1 classes. I did 3hrs a day, preparing for HSK 2. The two teachers I had were competent, hard-working and very friendly. The school staff were helpful and very organised in terms of my first stay in Taipei: they sent me all the accomodation and travel info beforehand, and helped me on the day when I could not find my taxi lift, despite being a Sunday.
I liked it so much I am going back next year!

Since fall 2015 I have now been studying Mandarin at LTL for about alltogether 30 months with my 2 teachers Felix and Alwin.
I had been studying Mandarin at both a big state university and another private school before but nothing compares to LTL!
I had pretty precise requirements when I signed up for classes at LTL: only one-to-one classes, with at least 2 different teachers, 15 hours a week at different hours during the day time and no use of text books.
None of this was a problem and this method has worked beautifully for me since the beginning.
When you have one-to-one classes you can have it exactly as you want it, concentrate on any aspect of chinese (grammar, conversational chinese, chinese characters etc. etc) you fancy.
I like having 2 different teachers who give me different input/ feedback.
I also tried a homestay in Chengde where I for 2 months stayed with a 3
generations family and had another great teacher. Highly recommendable experience!
I can only give LTL and my 2 teachers ny best and warmest recommendations.

I had a course for 4 weeks at LTL without knowing much Mandarin in the beginning. I appreciate the flexibility in booking the lessons (I booked my course about 6 weeks in advance) and I think they did a good job in balancing the different levels of speaking in the same class, although this is always some sort of trade-off. The teachers as well as the staff cared about your progress and encouraged to learn more.
In the school, there was a pleasant atmosphere, which is suitable for self-study outside of the class. About twice a week, other activities are offered, like going to a restaurant with regional dishes or more cultural activities. They are also very open for your own suggestions.
I was happy with my accommodation. A huge plus was the very nice manager of the apartment complex.

I am learning now already for 2 months Chinese together with LTL. I learn every lesson many new Thinks and have a lot of fun in each of my lessons. Originally I come to China for an exchange year but since the epidemic started I take online lessons. But the quality didn't change and I am still learning Chinese also with 7000km distance. I feel really comfortable with ltl

I started with my Chinese lessons in October 2019. I went to the LTL school every week and enjoyed it. Due to the virus I have now online lessons with my nice teacher Snow from LTL. Snow sends me a really good power point file before each lesson. We communicate via video call. Like this we see each other, which makes it more friendly and better to understand everything. This works perfectly fine. I am looking forward to each lesson and I am learning a lot. I really can recommend it and I am happy to improve my Chinese during these unusual times.

I just finished my 1 month Intensive course with LTL and it was great! The staff were very friendly and helpful (especially in beginning when I was totally lost!).

My teachers were super encouraging and really cared about seeing us improve.

I had group classes with additional private lessons. I would recommend this if you're keen to build your language skills more quickly and/or you're only in Beijing for a short amount of time. The extra private classes really helped me grasp things more quickly.

I came to Beijing knowing only basic Mandarin, by the time I left I was having real conversations with my teachers and the staff at the school, I could order food in restaurants, and I comfortably get around the city.

I spent 10 weeks at LTL and would highly advise anyone interested in learning Mandarin to also study at LTL. Extremely friendly environment while the intensity of learning enables fast progression in the language! The focus is certainly on the student with quick and useful help for any issues that may arise within or out of the classroom. The social events created to maximise the student well-being merely maximise the quality of the trip with regular school dinners and my personal highlight of visiting the Great Wall! Next trip already planned!

I've studied over a hundred hours at LTL Beijing with 1-on-1 classes. I needed classes at a certain time every day on my lunch break, and they were able to accommodate. My teachers Alice and Fiona have been patient and helpful. Alice in particular really adapted to my learning style and helped me over a long time. The school has a friendly atmosphere, if a bit hectic at peak times, and the German owner is often around, sometimes inviting students to his flat for barbecue.
