Metro took over construction of our 2 houses from the previous builder that went into bankruptcy. They were fair and reasonable in their quotes and ensured that the transition was quick and seamless.
Journey through the Construction was overall comfortable. There were definitely some misses along the way but the build manager responded actively every time and fix them up as per the plan. Management of Metro (especially their Director) played a key role and demonstrated cooperation and understanding, which personally to me was helpful especially considering that we had gone through a lot already with the previous builder and then the insurance process. We are impressed with what's delivered to us as the end product.

I built my first home with Metro and had a great experience.

From the start the sales staff showed high knowledge in the product (and the building process as a whole) & conducted dealings in an honest and caring manner.

At the beginning the selections process appeared overwhelming, however my mind was put at ease once I spoke with the builder and their suppliers. By the end I was comfortable with the choices that I made.

Throughout the build I was kept well informed and the build time was within the time frame that was originally quoted.

I am happy with the end product and enjoying my first newly built home.

The build was managed well within the budget but we were told that it will finish in about 5-6 months but it took 8.5 months (inclusive of X'mas break). Build quality is very good and they even implemented a personal request on tiling design at the entrance of the home.
However, the windows screen (mesh) was loose-came off while putting curtains.

We finished building our dream home in November 2016.

I say finished, however, even with the "Sapphire" specifications package there are issues.

We have been fairly disappointed in the craftsmanship in many areas;

-Gyprocking- commenced prior to house being watertight, resulted in a flood coming down our front walls and the gyprock swelling as well as their surrounding timbers. We had to forcefully demand and withold a payment to ensure this occurred as we were told by the supervisor that "this is standard"... It's not. And we had that clarified by the manufacturer and qualified tradespeople.

- Bathroom grouting, holes everywhere (even after going over it with the supervisor they managed to miss bits because it was so rough to start with) and uneven floors. They pay for cheap labor and the results show. We're most disappointed in this because we told them that we wanted our own tiler to do the work and they insisted that their tiler was a very good quality tiler. Ongoing regrets even now that we did not push the matter.

-Pantry tiling (patterned tile), tiles cut in weird places, no pattern recognition. Very disappointed in the finished job, and only way to fix it is for us to rip the tiling work out. Sadly the tile is now discontinued and hard to get.

- Fittings, wonky toilet roll holders, crooked door handles... You name it, we've got it.

-Roof leaks, less than a month after handover we had a FLOOD in our bedroom. Water cascaded into the bedroom entering via our downlights (hate to think what would have happened if we had "standard" inclusion of a bayonet!) and we ended up with close to 100L of water in our bedroom. We were told this is due to a design issue which is always a problem with large trees.
We used Metro's architect and they did not raise this issue at all with us, even though their roof contractor DID discuss it with them during our build and expressed his concerns. (Which we only found out after he came to repair the issue!)
We have a 35m tall tree in our backyard and it had been there and shown on all plans.... Yet, they kept passing over the fact and basically blame us for signing off on the plans.

-Inclusions, not included. Read your contract, very very closely.
They missed including items such as a "fly screen" for our door that was in our original quote, but had not been put in the contract. They would not refund us the $630 that we were owed (used the fact that they messed up the gyprock to say that they were losing money on our build....). Also quoted a "steel beam" for a large alfresco door opening which was substituted out with a wooden one. Be very careful.

My advice, if you can't go past the inclusions, do staged Building Inspections you'd be looking at around $2,000 extra, but keep a close eye on things right throughout the build.

Also, keep communication in writing. Everything documented. (We did this.) Photograph any issues and sent them in immediately when they happen; don't be afraid to hold back a payment if you are not satisfied with the responses you get.

Overall, we love our new home; but we feel that given our issues throughout the build and afterwards that we would have selected a different builder to work with.

I have recently moved into my new home built by Metro Homes SA. I cannot thank them enough for making this such a wonderful experience. The office staff, supervisor and the trades people where very professional, knowledgable and accommodating. I would certainly recommend Metro Homes to anyone wanting to build.

We've built 5 townhouses with Metro that have recently been completed and have been very happy with the build, value for money and process. We competitively tendered the build and Metro won on price and experience through providing some logical cost savings to get it within our budget, and a proactive approach to achieve our requirements.
The build quality is good and we're impressed with how quickly everything was wrapped up at the end. We had a few minor delays in approvals pre-construction, but Metro responded with a quick build time.
Final cost of the build was within budget and we're happy with the level of finish achieved for the budget.
