Power-on.com Reviews & Complaints (5)

I got a $55 quote to buy my old PC from Power-On. It was in perfect working condition and looked great. When Power-On received it, they sent me a pic with a small ding on the case - I doubt it was there when I sent it to them, but I guess it could have happened during shipping. Still, even in the pic it was hardly noticeable. They told me that, due to the ding, the PC was WORTHLESS. I'm guessing they scam people to give them their old PCs for free, then re-sell the parts. So, buying from them is probably ok, but if you ship them your PC, expect that they won't give you anything for it. Apple should prevent Power-On from advertising on their sites!!!

I had two Apple Mac Books sitting around our house, and I used PowerOn to recycle. Prompt service, easy to use and mail the items, and received quoted price in a form of an Apple gift certificate within two weeks. Very happy and pleased with the service and glad to see at least the machines are being recycled. Would use their service again.

I ordered a Dell Celeron 466 mini system from these guys on August 31st on the last day of their $70 deal on 'em ($40 if you had a coupon). I used the cheapest shipping option but lo and behold the thing showed up 2 days later! Perhaps this is props that should go to UPS but I think PowerON probably has worked to make sure UPS gets their stuff there ASAP. The system arrived in pretty good shape: it was a little dirty but some rubbing alcohol cleaned off all of the marks on it. Nothing inside or outside appears to be broken or even remotely damaged aside from some normal wear-and-tear stuff on the case you'd expect to see on any old system like this. I haven't been able to test out the performance of the machine yet but if it's anything like the rest of it I should be very happy.

UPDATE: I've been using the system now for about a month as a router/firewall. Works great, though unfortunately the CD-ROM has issues. (It makes loud noises whenever you access anything from the disk) Anyway, very happy.

I recently sold an old MacBook to PowerOn's recycling program and was excited to put the amount towards a new MacBook Air. I filled out all the information PowerOn asked for: Does it start up successfully? Yes. What is the cosmetic condition? Good. Does its internal hardware function properly? Yes. The item has a working battery? Yes. What is the display's condition. Good. I have: removed all passwords, supplied the power adapter, included the operating disc system. Yes, yes, and yes (including a brand new power adapter I had recently purchased to replace my original one).

I was quoted, and was sent all of the packing materials to send my laptop to them, which seemed pretty great. Free shipping and they sent me the materials to pack my computer. I was excited to be quoted for $300, which would more than help with the cost of a new laptop. Several weeks later I got an email telling me that my quote had been finished and I would only be getting $80 because apparently I lied about the quality of my laptop, which was no better than "Poor" all around. Included in the email were several attachments of blurry pictures indicating 1 pixel (literally ONE pixel) that had gone dead on the screen. Go figure that one pixel is worth $220!

Don't even bother with their Apple recycling program. They deliberately quote you outrageously high by asking you vague questions and failing to mention the criteria with which they judge your electronics in order to get your business. Then, once they have your product, they make a point to casually inform you that they're taking 70% off your quote. I will NEVER use this service again, and I would strongly encourage you to look at other options for recycling your electronics. EBay probably would have been a better choice for me, but PowerOn gave an incredibly reasonable (yet misleading) quote. Stay far, far away. They're crooks.
