I have been with SGIC for years and I was involved in a non-at-fault claim. IT was generally very easy to lodge the claim online (upload pics etc) and as my vehicle was written off I had the money in my account in about 2 weeks. However, this wasn't without hiccups, the staff members handling my claim did not even bother to look at the photos I uploaded including invoices of the baby seat which I claimed for as well as other personal items. Only when I told them about it they went back and checked and paid me the correct amount.

Have made two claims over past three years roof in my garage caved in after storm would not accept claim ,car damaged in shopping centre car park door and back panel damaged virtually called me a liar ,saying it was two claims not one ,will be cancelling my three policies,and my father in law has business and several houses insured with company and is in process of finding another company ,the aim of the accessors is to knock back as many claims as possible ,never do business with this company again have been with them 35 years and in that time only three claims have gone to omnibus had enough .

At first it seem that i was going to be treated properly after a tiny not at fault bump...but alas after my car was virtually destroyed by hower crash lonsdale sth aust..sgic prefered cheap and nasty repairer..then all walls and blicks came up..and has now become a horrible experience..my friends went thru same process with hower crash..please be warned..as for scic..wldnt a little help and nice service go a long way to keeping customers..there are countless insurers out there these days..please treat your existing customers correctly..and then you may recieve your first good review this century....

17 years too long time to change not happy claims department wasn't helpful making me feel like it was my fault when a guy went though red lights and almost hurt me but they take the lights out of picture cause I had no witness or dash cam that's crap on your part SGIC that will lose me.

I have been a long term customer for 20+ years, with only one claim made, so what is more important than value for money was their customer service and ability to accommodate my needs, my policy was easy to set up and over the years i have updated it with no problems, but unfortunately recently when i contacted SGIC to place a claim i did not receive the customer service i had previously had, i found i was having to call to see how my claim was progressing the service consultant was very hard to understand and seemed not to really understand the problem when the assessor attended my property a carpenter was sent not an electrician very frustrating! and to top it off i'm still in limbo. Currently looking for a new provider.

I originally made a mistake on purchasing my policy saying I drive 20000 km pa not the lesser5000 km pa I actually drive , so I thought it logical that if I am on the road 75% less then I should be re-estimated on renewal at a lower premium but SGIC customer service would not consider this and my renewal price is an increase in premium for driving 75% lower kms!? This is not fair or logical

I recently contacted sgic to cancel the remaining month or so left on 2 car insurance policies; one was seamlessly processed with a refund of $56. The other car received nothing. I contacted both the offshore and local office and was told that due to a mystery "admin fee" , which neither office could elaborate on, I was not entitled to a refund.

I then tried to raise the issue on their Facebook page and was advised that after deduction of this "mystery admin fee", if the remaining balance is under $15, sgic automatically "donates" the monies to the "charities [they] support". Apparently this is written on pg 86 of their pds. If I wanted that amount refunded, I would need to "escalate" the issue with another team.

First of all, why was one refund given with no addition charges, while the other car denied? Secondly, why is sgic not appropriately training their staff? And thirdly, who are these charities that sgic support, and if my money is going towards them, then shouldn't I receive a charity receipt?

Hence I will also be changing my other existing policies to other companies, and be encouraging family and friends to do so. 2 other family members have already made the switch to better deals! So please shop around! Sgic has a low rating here for a reason, and their sub-standard responses to these reviews are just for "ticking a box", rather than actually helping out their customers.

17 year customer with no claims and multi-policy (6 policies), premiums just kept ratcheting up. Put up all sorts of excuses and reasons why they couldn't drop the premium so shopped around and ended up saving around 20% across the board for the same cover. To add insult to injury, they tried to charge me $30.00 to cancel each policy ($180 total). Profits before people.

I had to restore paint protection after the crash repair. I was asked to submit the quote for reviewing what fair and reasonable portion would be. Didnt get a call from SGIC but the paint retailer called me to book for paint job. Called in two days later to confirm with SGIC. It took a while for them to figure out and finally confirmed that I proceed with the work. After the paint work, I was asked to submit the actual invoices. It took them +2months to reimburse the invoice. I called SGIC as many as 6 times during this period. All I would hear was it was submitted to assessment team for fair and reasonable portion. Seemed like they have rote learned their sentences! I spoke with managers too and they promised me twice to call me back by the end of the week with updates on what was going on. They never called me! What I did not understand is why did they need to assess what is fair and reasonable twice and needed both quote and an invoice for the same reason. Price wise it is cheaper than most of the provider but if you shop around you can get cheaper than SGIC. and for that very reason,I have switch my car insurance.

Made my first ever claim after being their customer for years. It took them a full month to organize the paperwork for repairer to start. I had to call up every week and keep getting told someone will call me back but no one ever did. After almost 2 months of waiting for a small repair which should have only taken couple of weeks I get my car back only to realize they have done even further damage to the car. small little chips on the paint job where they worked the bumper bar was not fitted properly, and so on.
They recommended the repairer to me because I said I did not mind who repairs it, then they blamed it on me because based on them I had chosen this repairer. They will always find a way to blame someone else of their terrible service.

Every year you raise our premiums and every year i ring and negotiate a reduction. You try to screw returning customers. What a sad game you make us play.

We have been insured with SGIC for seven years, we have 3 cars, home and contents. The Car was written off as a total loss the payout was determined quickly, however the balance of the Car registration was deducted from the payout. This is outrageous and immoral. Car registration is our business, NOT SGIC. Also the balance of the insurance policy will not be refunded or credited back to us for the new car replacement.

Everything goes well until you need to make a claim, advised property would be made safe as soon as possible, no action for 24 hrs, complete lack of communication. Staff unfriendly.

I have several policies with SGIC and we have had two rental issues where a hot water pipe broke under ground damaging the Linen press cabinet with steam damaging the cabinet etc. When they came to fix it they fixed the Cabinet and need to cut the cornise away to get the cabinet in. You would think they would fix it, well the carpenter turned around and blamed the damage of the cornise on the tile roof. i complained yet nothings been done to fix it 5 years on.

We have been with SGIC for 29 years but as soon as we settle a car insurance claim we will be moving all 6 of our insurances. A car reversed into my car at a petrol station so not my fault and from the very beginning we have received wrong information, wrong directives, unhelpful assistants ,been told the money would be in our account then its not and delays after delays. Very dissatisfied and quite stressful. Overseas call centres that have a script and do not deter from that. Would not recommend to anyone!!!

More than 10 years with SGIC. Since have made 3 accident claims. Prompt action was taken from lodgement

till my vehicle was properly repaired and delivered. Excellent service.

I made a claim 8 days ago and despite being promised a call to clarify what will be covered I have not received any contact. I have called again and promised someone would contact me. This has not happened. We are still unsure if they are going to repair the damages from a fallen tree.

They suck you in with competitive prices on their policy when you first sign up but then every year after they just keep increasing the cost of the policy. No claims made so there is no reason to increase it over $100 every year. Disappointed!

I was in an accident with an sgic client, it was entirely their fault. My car is now unusable and one week later I’m getting absolutely no reply from sgic. I have phoned them twice and been told a claims person will call with 48 hours - I hear nothing!
The claim dept didn’t pick up calls today, I waited otjephie for 40 mis, even the online chat was a min 30 min wait.
Put on more staff SGIC, provide some goddamn service to people who need it. Appalling.

I had home insurance that included portables, I lost a bag with expensive items enclosed when traveling and made a claim, SGIC took over 5 months to process claim in which they still could not advise me what was happening after I provided all original receipts and boxes. not to mention the original policy was set up incorrectly. In this time I had to replace all of my own items as they were items I required for work and after this it took another month or so to say that they were still working on the claim I then cancelled the claim as there was no point in waiting on items to be replaced in which I replaced myself, I then had a letter in the mail stating that they declined my claim when I cancelled it. SCIG are a money hungry waste of time insurance company that take for ever to action on claims and questions not to mention their staff don't know what they are doing and are extremely rude!! I would never recommend nor would I ever use SGIC again. If your thinking of a cheap insurance just remember you pay for what you get! They maybe cheap but their service and product is shocking! All I can say is beware.... You pay a lot of money for insurance make sure you are getting a good product because if your house burns down you don't want to be waiting 6 months to even get a response! SGIC what a joke!!!
