Stop4camera.com Reviews & Complaints (18)

Their web site lists the Nikon Coolpix 5700 for $705 after mail in rebate. I called them and spoke with a salesperson named John. The first question I asked him was is the camera was in stock?...he said yes. I asked if he was sure it was in stock and he said yes the camera is definitely available. I agreed to order the camera and after I finally made it clear that I would not buy any of their inflated priced extras John told me that the camera is not in stock and that I would have to back order it. John and I exchanged a couple nastygrams via email in which I told him that what he is doing is a scam and that he is a total dumb--- for thinking he can get away with it. Here is the email that I got back from John:

"From: stop4camera [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, July 21, 2003 11:33 AM
To: [email protected]
Subject: RE: john@stop4camera

A scam I guess it worked on you didn't it I cant believe an educated guy like you could go for a coolpix 5700 for $800 so I see who is the total dumb ---, have a great life..."

I filed a complaint with the FTC by phone at 1-877-FTC-HELP. They indicated that there is a good chance that it will get investigated if there are other complaints. I encourage other people to file a complaint. It is easy to do by phone and there was no wait. You can also file a complaint via the FTC website at www.ftc.gov. What Stop4Camera is doing is dishonest and I believe illegal...we need to let them know this is totally unacceptable. "

After trying two other NYC places for a good price on a camera, and getting a major PIA salesperson pushing hard for me to buy ultra-high priced add ons, (299.00 for a 512 memory card???) I finally ordered from Stop4Camera. I read some bad reviews about them too, and was a bit worried, but "John" wasn't real pushy about accessories, although I did buy a 5 year warranty for 79 bucks. Frankly, I was worried the whole time until the camera got here today, a day early, shipping was free, and the camera is new in box, and the whole deal went fine. Truthfully though, it was a nerve-wracking experience wondering if it was all a scam, or if we would ever see the camera. I would probably elect to buy locally next time even if it meant more money, but only because these cheap deal camera guys have ruined their own reputations by screwing people around.

Before placing my order for a Nikon D70 digital slr camera, I called this merchant to confirm availability and was told that it was in stock and if I order today (Thursday December 16th) it would ship tomorrow (Friday December 17th). I immediately placed the order on their website. When I received no confirming email by Sunday (12/19), I called the merchant again (they are closed on Saturdays) to find out if they had shipped on Friday as promised. The guy said that they only ship the next day if you order by phone rather than internet (I had not been told this), but since I was calling now (Sunday) the order would ship tomorrow (Monday). The guy located my order and then informed me that they will handle the Nikon rebate and "save me the trouble." I've never heard of a retailer doing this so my warning flags went up. I then got the hard sell for accessories and extended warranty, all of which I declined. After declining the additional items, I was informed that the order would not ship tomorrow as promised earlier in the call, that it will now take 7-10 days. I immediately cancelled the order. From reading the reviews on this site, this seems like a fairly common slimy tactic. I then searched for another seller and after reading the reviews and comparing prices, I ordered the camera from Buydig.com and am hoping for better treatment from them.

I was very pleased with the sale process and shipping, pricing, etc.... I purchased a sony vx-2100 on Tuesday at 4:30 pm and got it the next day at 10 am. Sales person sold me the warranty, a little persistent and 300 bucks later I had myself a 4 year warranty through repaitechinc.com total including camera and all accesories, NDA shipping and warranty was 2450.

Not bad considering that if I had purchased locally in CA I would have paid 2699+ tax (7.75%) w/ out extended 4 year warranty.

I placed an order with 3 days shipping for a Canon EOS 20D with 18-55mm lens on Dec. 14, 2004. My order shows on the account as processing. However, the Stop4Camera has never done anything on my order. I sent 4 emails to request them to fill my order as soon as possible, they read it but nothing his been done. Stop4Camera also jacked up their price for the Canon 20D with 18-55mm lens from $1289.99 to $1379.99. Watchout, sellerratings shows that only people bought their expansive extended warranty received their order. A store like this should be taken out from market. BBB shows 3 settlements in the past 24 months.

Stop4Camera called me on Dec. 19 that the camera will arrive on Dec. 22. The sell associate asked me to stay home waiting for the delivery. I checked the Stop4Camera web site. The web site still indicated the order was in processing. On Dec. 22, the Stop4Camera failed to deliver as promised. I called the Stop4Camera on Dec. 30. Stop4Camera associate Mr. John wanted to sell expansive accessories and extended warranty in order to push the back order to delivery as a package. I filed a complaint to the BBB.com. If you did not get what Stop4Camera advertised, you should file a complaint to BBB.com. This is not the right way to do business online.

I Ordered a CANON PowerShot A640 12-30-2006 from this store and received an email 01-03-2007 saying the following:
Thank you for your most recent order with us.
Your order is now with the billing department, and prior to shipping your order out, we need you to get in touch with us to confirm some details.
Please contact one of our representatives.
It is a pleasure to serve you and we hope you visit us again soon.
So I called and they tried to sell me from A to Z of accessories which I declined for about 10 minutes and then the sales person confirmed that they were going to ship the camera.
I have written the numerous emails regarding my order to get the to tell me if they are out of stock or what the reason for this hold up is and no reply.
It is now 01-18-2007 and still not a word and my order is still in the state of processing, I.e. they could not sell me anything additional than the camera and then they obviously do not want to sell me the camera.
So I would advice any one to stay away from this site, since it looks like if you do not call and buy x number of extra items for a much higher price than any where else you are not getting the camera.

I ordered a Sony DVD Handycam right after Thanksgiving. They called to try and sell me accessories. We played telephone tag for a few weeks, but when they got me on the phone, I politely declined any additional accessories. They confirmed my shipping address and said it would ship and that it would require a signature upon delivery. I waited and it never came. I contacted them and they told me it was backordered until January. The employee who said it would ship didn't know this? I decided to wait for it because the price was so much lower than elsewhere. well it's January so I contacted them and they cancelled my order. Do not do business with them. they are just trying to scam people it seems.

After finding an unbeleivable price on a camcorder I placed the order in late December, they called me a few days later to "verify" all my information and to try and sell me all sorts of accessories. I kindly declined all the extras and they said that everything was fine with my order and I would be getting an email when the camera shipped. Two weeks later still no email so I checked the order status online and it was still processing. I than called in and they said the camera was on backorder and they did not have any clue when it would come in. I decided to wait another month and called back in and they still had no timeframe. In the meantime the camera I ordered was back on their website at a price of $150.00 above the "great" deal I got. I finally cancelled the order and have since bought elsewhere. Be very aware of this shady store.

Before made order, I called to Stop4camera, "John" said the camcorder SONY HDR-SR1 which I ordered is available, than, I made order at Nov. 2, the second day John called me confirmed the order and push me buy extra stuff like extra battery... he said the manufacture package battery is only last 25 Min. but I check the Sony’s web, it states 2.5 hr. I refused to buy the extra stuff. He said I could get the order 7-14 day. But it's 11 days after order, I didn't get the shipping confirmation email, I called back they said it is not available, and they don't know when it's available. So, I canceled the order!
(I assume if I agree to buy overprice battery and the extra charger, they can sell me the camcorder.)

Paid over $200 for 2nd day delivery. Took a week to receive item.
Ordered an additional OEM battery, received third party goods.
Seller offered a 512MB flashcard as compensation. Received three weeks later. Prices good; communication needs improvement. Would probably buy here again.

I ordered a canon powershot SG6 from this store on Feb 3, after finding it on comparison sites, with the lowest price for NEW. There were a few lower prices at other shops but refurbished. I received a confirmation email saying my order had to be verified by their fraud dept and I could call to expodite this. I called (on Sat) and got a recording saying no one was there till Monday.
Sunday night (Feb 5)a man called from there, to verify my shipping address. He then went on to push "deals" on me, like saying the camera only came with a 32 MB memory card and I could only take 32 pictures with this (I have an Epson camera with a 32 MB card and can take 70-400 pictures with it, depending on quality). I kept saying I had borrowed the money for the camera and couldn't buy anything more right now. He said it would be shipped the next day (Monday Feb 6) by UPS and I would get an email saying this. My debit card wouldn't be charged till it was shipped (it hasn't been) Today is Feb 9th, and not getting any email yet, I put the camera store in google and found your site with the negative reviews! I read the same story, what happened with me, I was pressured to buy more. Even though the camera, itself was a low price. And, since I didn't buy more, apparently it's not going to be sent. I have emailed them asking about this and saying if they don't plan on sending it to cancel it and let me know so I can buy it elsewhere.
Even though they apparently don't take the money FOR the camera, it's still a waste of time, and had I not found your website, who knows how long I'd have waited for it to be shipped.
Do I hope that maybe I will still get it at some point?
Isn't this something sort of ILLEGAL? Even though they don't take your money, just don't ship the camera unless you buy more/expensive stuff to go with it?

LATER: I got a response to my email asking about what I learned on this website, saying they were cancelling my order. Apparently it's true they advertise low prices, then don't send it unless you buy high priced accessories (they push on you) to go with it.
I'm bummed out, because I thought I was getting the camera for the price that advertised, so budgeted around that, and now a week has gone by and I don't have enough to get the camera (new) at other sellers I found.
Even though they might say the camera was out of stock (as some here wrote)it's still false advertising to offer one price then not send it unless you buy overpriced extras. Of course, they don't SAY this, but it's obvious.
They give a bad name to all online camera stores.

I purchased a Canon Powershot Pro 1 Digital Camera from Stop4Camera and the deal could not have been easier or have gone any smoother. I talked with Bob and he was very pleasant and answered all of my questions. He assurd me the Pro 1 they were selling was the retail box with all of the Canon supplied accessories. He was not pushy and told me several times to call him if I had any questions and or problems.

I placed the order and he did offer me some special deals on some other accessories I might need with the camera. He did'nt push the deals on me and I ended up purchasing an extra battery and a 5yr extended warranty for the Pro 1. As a matter of fact I told him I wanted to keep my cost down and he dropped the price of the warranty $25! I placed the order on Fri. Oct.29th and he told me it would ship on Monday Nov. 1st and arrive on Friday Nov. 5th. It did like clock work! Way to go Bob!

I would definately shop with Stop4Camera again if I have any future photographic needs and I will reccomend them to others! Two thumbs up!!

I odered one Canon Digital SLR Rebel XTi Camera.

The Sales Rep and Supervisors were very humble and professional.

Even though the order was in warehouse ready to ship and I decided to cancel due to personal reason. The manager easily cancelled my order without any charge. Thanks! I had experience with them personally though I did not but any products from them . They seem very professional.

Put my order in for a Nikon 4800 coolpix camera on 11/6. Received thank you email. Email had nothing about shipping or in/out of stock. 11/10 got the call to confirm the order and also tried to sell me expensive accessories. I was patient and just said “No thank you” about 12 times. I checked the order online again and it had gone up by $5 from the original grand total.? Sent email 11/23 to sales asking for approximate date of delivery. No response back. I was patient till 12/3 and canceled order via sales and that only took 3 hours to happen. Go figure. I need this camera to be under the tree at Christmas.

I ordered a PV-GS200 from stop4camera.com on 1/26. I received an email stating that they would contact me when the order was shipped. No email. After 3 days, I called and was given the hard sell about accessories. I declined all. I was told that the camera would arrive in 3-4 days because of my location (Philadelphia) and that it was shipping that very day. Today, 2/2, I read the reviews on your site. I called at spoke to the saleperson. He stated that my item was on backorder for a week and a half and that the reviewers I quoted to him simply "got impatient" and I'd get my camera soon. Obviously a total scam. I canceled my order and am praying that my credit card doesn't get charged.

Attempted to purchase a Sony Cybershot DSC F717 for $514.99 which appeared to be a decent price, and the place was one of the few Brooklyn camera shops that did not have a bad BBB rating. Placed order on Nov 23, then I was contacted by phone to "confirm" my order--and of course I got the hard sell loaded with erroneous information. He stated camera battery only lasted "30" minutes and I should purchase a spare for ~ $100 (Review sites state battery lasts >450 shots!). I declined all offers and was told camera would arrive in "7-14 days." Of course I felt as if I was dealing with Lucifer himself, so I gave them a couple of days waiting for my order to be something more than "processing" and then i got the e-mail saying it was backordered. The truth is, if you don't pay these criminals an outrageous sum for the extras, you are not going to get anything at all. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!
