The Lawn Turf Laying

How I wish I had read these reviews here properly before I used this company! Yes there are some good reviews, but dig a bit deeper and you will find plenty of bad ones from people that have had exactly the same bad experience that I have had. I've had to delay my response to this company due to all the stress and trouble they have caused me.
August last year (2020) I had a new lawn laid. This was a gift for my 90th birthday from all my family, right down to my Great Gran children.
The lawn was duly laid by rotavating the old lawn and laying the new lawn on top. Alarm bells did start to ring when they were 25 turfs short (and blamed me!) even though I had given them correct measurements (don't expect them to come and measure up themselves). It took almost 3 weeks for them to lay the missing turfs.
I have to say that when it was finished it looked so lovely and nice and, I was extremely happy and proud of it.
A few months after being laid my lawn has turned into a complete DISASTER. The lawn is lumpy and bumpy all over with the grass dying out in patches.
All of my emails to them requesting help had negative delaying responses, ie; they want photos, then more photos etc.
They will not come and have a look for themselves, or have one of the lads on his way to other sites to check on the problem. You can't get to speak to them at all, its all by answerphone, then you get a reply by email. Their last email contained the following , I quote "a lawn is a natural changeable product which does require an amount of aftercare on your behalf or it will suffer, which unfortunately in this case it has."
They could never be so WRONG in this respect. I have followed all of their instructions to the letter.
In all my 90 years I've never come across a worse company. It appears they take your money then say it's your fault.
Other lawn laying companies have told me that you don't lay new turf on top of the old lawn even if it is rotavated, because that poor preparation leads to all of the problems that I now have.
I have paid a large sum of money to get a nice lawn to be proud of, but I now have a lawn that is actually WORSE than the old one and resembles an underground rockery! I now have to pay someone else to put right what I trusted this company to do right in the first place.
If you are thinking of getting a new lawn laid, my experience should tell you to LOOK ELSEWHERE.

I understand that some customers are satisfied with the result of their lawn installation, and may have worked well for them, but can I suggest you read as many reviews as possible and consider carefully before investing in turf from this company.

The lawn was laid by the turf company in September 2020 and although appeared to be of good quality, we were concerned that the manner in which it was laid was not conducive for it to flourish.

The Ground workers arrived and immediately started to wheel barrow compost and lay it on top of the old turf. I questioned the process, and was told that this was the correct method. I said I wanted the old grass removed and the ground rotavated in preparation for the new turf.

I was told that they never remove old turf and rotavated it into the ground. They continued to rotavated about half of the old turf we were having re-laid. On the remainder they just spread the topsoil compost and laid the new turf on top.

I later contacted the company and explained what had happened and how dissatisfied I was with the process. They emailed a reply saying ‘it is normal practice and that the lawn would be fine’. I sent photographs to them of the remaining grass under the new turf and highlighted the fact that only part of the ground had been rotavated.

Their reply was, ‘we have noted your concern, but the lawn will be fine’. Since that time the area has deteriorated further and where the ground was not correctly prepared, the turf has died off completely.

Emailing them and sending the photos of the degrading turf, they replied that my lack of grass maintenance must be to blame. Apart from watering the new grass in and a few light cuts in Autumn, there has been no footfall on the grass throughout the Winter.

A frustrating and disappointing experience all round with a company who will not accept any responsibility.

They were recommended to me and I was not disappointed. Very knowledgeable and efficient, were able to provide expert advice and adapted to the requirements well, and provided a good after care service. Highly recommend.

From start to finish the service we received from The Lawn Turf Laying Company has been remarkable. We found them online and getting our quote was made very simple. The booking process was easy although we'd have preferred an earlier date (suppose this is a good sign though as so popular), and our full lawn replacement was carried out very neatly and efficiently with the team arriving at the date and time agreed, using excellent quality topsoil and lawn turf, working hard to create the best result and tidying up well after themselves. Cannot fault so very happy to recommend to all.

We were recommended to the lawn company by family who'd had their lawns replaced, and have to say we are still over the moon with the service we received and the results. Our lawn has been down for nearly 2 years now (time flies!) and with just regular mowing they are still looking absolutely gorgeous. I ask for advice and help, but my emails and calls were ignored. As such I would not recommend them for a lasting job, which is a shame as it started so promisingly and initially looked good. I nearly wanted help to address the emergence of dead grass and how to deal with it.

Our lawn had been ruined by our 2 boxer dogs, so we contacted this company and got our quote online via their website. A lovely, helpful lady in their office answered our queries and got us booked in for an install date. The guys arrived on time that morning, were very informed and knew exactly what they were up to, working hard and efficiently to complete our brand new lawn. The topsoil and the grass turf they've used is the best I have ever seen, even better than we had hoped for, and we are now the envy of our neighbours, with our new showpiece lawn. Do not hesitate to contact and use this gem of a lawn company.

HONEST REVIEW!! I would rate this company 2.5 stars. Initially the communication and efficiency was amazing. It’s all on email you never speak to anyone until the DAY!! Emma was very efficient at answering questions and was prompt in her replies. I never waited for more than a day for an answer. On the day, two friendly gentlemen came. They completed in 2.5 - 3 hours. They have this machine that rotates the existing lawn into the ground and soil on top so no need for getting rid of old turf. I don’t know if that will come back up to haunt me. Also I did get rid of weeds before they cane upon their advice.! I was getting so happy with the results until !!! Yes until they ran out of turf. So tip no1 always slightly over measure. They said they bought only the turf that was required and my advice is so common sense, keep extra! I think they did have extra but that was used on the previous job so it looks like they have this problem. If your job is AM, I don’t think this problem will occur as they set off with a bit extra. Anyway They assured me a simple email to Emma would resolve, they said it will take barely 10 mins to complete and they are regulars in my area. So I emailed the office it was a Friday so they didn’t give me a day had to wait until Monday. They were able to fit me in with a cost of £100 for 5 extra rolls of turf. That’s £15 per roll. Plus vat. Omg I just couldn’t justify this. I understand that the less turf you buy, it’s more expensive but not more that £8. They were charging transportation as well but they were in my area to do another job.! Once the money was taken the customer care went too. The turf is of good quality however time will tell as it’s only been 10 days. It does look nice. I went to a garden centre and bought 5 rolls and completed the job myself with my husband, we had no idea what we were doing but somehow laid the remaining turf in the gaps left. It cost £18. It didn’t match initially but it’s blended in now, you can slightly tell. Make sure measurements are correct and be prepared to have a steep over cost if they run out. Overall great value compared to some companies.

Low price and a top quality lawn, what more can you ask for?! Over the moon with the results, and can't stop looking at what was the Somme but is now a show piece lawn. Only wish we'd had the work done years ago.

Very impressive new lawn installed by these guys. We had the work carried out nearly a year ago after receiving our quote online, they were very friendly and helpful, offered a very good price, and the grass is still looking as good as when first installed - cannot fault and happy to recommend

As some commentators have said, "buy cheap, buy twice". I also see that I am not the first person to mention the plastic mesh! I am now advised that no decent turf company (such as Rolawn or Tillers for example) would dare to use such rubbish. Good quality turf does not need a plastic mesh under it to hold it together. It is not standard in new build but standard by cowboys who want to make a fast buck cheaply. I also see comments that the after sales service was appalling. That was my experience. when I went to Companies House, I find that this "Company" is not registered. That fact hides a multitude of sins. I now see that I also fell for the trick of not enough turf was ordered. I also had to pay extra. However, they fortunately had some extra on board. I had to pay on the spot but I also realise that I never received a VAT invoice and it started to occur to me that this “company” was the equivalent of a tarmac laying company. I cannot believe all the glowing accounts on this web site and so few who express the same view as me. Caveat Emptor.

The new lawn put in over a year ago is still looking great, and the new lawn they have recently installed at the front is now looking great too. Can't recommend highly enough, great in every way

Our lawn's been down for nearly a year now, it managed to survive the beast from the east and then a severe summer heatwave. So very durable indeed, still looks as good as when first fitted. Thanks again.

Can't quite give a full 5 stars, I had to leave before the work was completed and so wasn't told that we shouldn't walk on the lawn too much for the first couple of weeks, and as a result I left some footstep indents in it which had to be filled with topsoil to fix - but the lawn does look terrific now.

I tried to submit this once, will try again! I had to wait two weeks for my installation, I wanted it done as I was at my wits end, with all the recent rain, my earth was a muddy mess with kids and dog it was a nightmare so I was pleased when they turned up and quickly made a start. They covered my entire plot with dark soil, levelled it out and rolled out the turf - it was done in good time and the garden is looking green instead of brown, we are very happy. Would recommend, price was good, booking was easy, the men were nice, had a tea and biscuits and explained it all to us as they were going along. Looking forward to having a usable garden next spring...no more mud!!!

What a difference a day makes... in 1 day my garden is completely transformed with a new lawn by this company and looks truly fantastic. A very positive experience from start to finish, getting a quote was very simple once we’d measured and the girl who helped us with the booking was very helpful and informative. The turf layers arrived on the date and time we agreed, and really were a lovely pair of chaps, couldn’t do enough to please, gave tips on the layout of our borders and worked their socks off. The turf they’ve laid is the most beautiful grass I’ve ever seen, just looks fantastic. Thank you again for all of your efforts.

Two lovely chaps from the Lawn Turf Company came and have installed a most impressive lawn, were very thorough, and provided great tips for the future lawn upkeep. A great job done all round thank you.

We are a property maintenance company and have used The Lawn Turf Laying company for over two years - very reliable and happy to recommend anytime.

My lawn was laid on 11th Feb. Initially looking from my back door. I felt pleased with the work. Later I discovered patches of turf that looked quite unlike the rest. They were patchy, with splits in places, areas of rotten grass and they were not consistent with the quality of the remaining turves. I contacted the company to inform them that substandard probably old turves had been laid and remedial work was necessary. Their reply was, ‘All our turf is cut fresh to order, let me be clear we do not use old turf.  It may be the way the roll sat on the truck during transportation and will recover.Please can we review in 2 weeks, we need to let everything settle.’ The correspondence, including a number of photographs of grass clearly not ‘recovering’ continued for some time until I finally received an email stating that a team would be sent out on 5th Feb, only to receive another shortly after to say that there had been a ‘mistake’ and the team would not now arrive. The final email from the company stated that, ‘I cannot help you any further than continually explaining that all your turf rolls are the same quality, the same soil type and the same grass seed mix. Colour variations sometimes occur temporarily. But the lawn will soon match all over.’ Now five weeks on the difference between the substandard turves and the rest of the lawn remains clear. The company has simply refused to resolve this matter. I know the difference between heathy turf and yellowing turves with splits and dead patches. Had I seen this on the day I would not have paid for the job until it was put right. I would not have accepted the turves. I would not recommend this company.

Our lawn has been down several months now and is still looking very good indeed. We had a good experience throughout so happy to recommend to anyone requiring turf laying work
