Tomatotravel.com.au Reviews & Complaints (30)

The tour was extremely good in the places we visited , the accomodation , the itinery , the breakfasts and the 3 free days were inovative.
The tour guide tried hard and was a nice person , but lacked overall knowledge of Japan.

from the first day they were on time and obliging. Our Guide ,Connie, was friendly and went out of her way to make our experience interesting and pleasant.

I would not hesitate to recommend Tomato to any of my friends.

I thought the tour was really well organised with a good range of activities and a great tour leader. It was very enjoyable.

Name tags to be supplied at the beginning

Maps for the immediate area for each location

When we had 2 free days in Osaka we had just arrived in Japan after an overnight flight and it would have been beneficial to have had some orientation before attempting to navigate our way around. Similar situation in Tokyo where we had 2 days without any directions.

I would prefer to pay a little more and have a smaller group.

Our tour leader was very good and I enjoyed the itinerary there was enough free days BUT there was TOO MANY people on tour, 46 was way too many especially when it was time to get off the bus and arriving at hotels.

Your organisation in Japan was fine but the flights you booked us on from and to Sydney were poorly timed, with both a very late outbound and early Inbound flight. Others on the same tour, flying from the same place, were booked with a different airline with better timings, at least for the inbound flight. When I addressed this with you the response was tardy and less than honest, as you tried to claim we had been given choice in relation to flights and that others would have been on a different tour. We found it insulting to be treated as if we were not expressing an informed and genuine evaluation.

Loved the trip, the scenery and items of interest, the guide was lovely, very friendly, obliging, very caring and very helpful, however her command of English was not good, we lost about 50% of what she read out on the bus unfortunately, so we had to research each destination to try and catch up. Many of the hotel room bathrooms were very small and very difficult to shower and use toilet facilities for those of us who are 6 foot and more tall. All hotels were very clean and neat. Some of the breakfasts were very good and a couple very poor. The bus driver was excellent, as was the senior guide who accompanied our guide for assessment purposes, as it was her first time escorting an English speaking group. Overall though, we enjoyed the trip and the arrangements made.

Our tour guide has very poor English skills and often appears to be disorganised and poorly prepared.
Some accommodation was substandard.

A part of our tour included a stopover on the way home at either Singapore or Hong Kong. As we have been to Singapore before we opted for a stopover in Hong Kong. After having booked and prior to departure civil unrest in Hong Kong was at the forefront in the local news. At no time did Tomato Travel try to contact us and assure us that it would be OK to proceed with the Hong Kong stopover. I did contact Tomato Travel direct a few weeks before departure to ascertain the position in Hong Kong and was advised that an email would be forwarded out to all travellers to Hong Kong advising them of the position. Obviously my email address was misplaced as I received no email. Furthermore I received so many copies of amended itineraries that at the end of the day had no idea which was the correct itinerary. I understand the business has only been established for a little over 2 years but if you wish to continue in business you really need to "pick up your game".

I enjoyed my holiday to Japan. Our guide was lovely, and very helpful. The tour was well planned, with free days throughout. The hotels were lovely, although the rooms were extremely cramped. Breakfast was provided throughout, which was awesome!
The biggest disappointment were the flights and transfers. Coming from Australia, we were booked on Air China, with a 4 hour stopover in TaiPei. That was an absolutely awful experience! The plane was cramped and old. Plus the person in the next seat sneezed on my son, and he got sick as a result, eventually passing it on to me. Not something we needed on a holiday. What made things worse, was when we discovered that others on our tour, flew Qantas without stopovers. Why did we get the short straw? Same on our return.
We were met at the airport by a nice young man, but had to catch a train to our hotel, which was an hour away, with our luggage in tow.

Arrived in Seoul hours before hotel check in time after an exhausting 17 hour overnight journey with SingaporeAir.

The flight was a supposed upgrade costing an extra $400 for each member of our party of four. We were shocked and disappointed when we realised that we were the only group on our tour who had to pay extra to upgrade flights that were standard for all other members of our tour group.

We were picked up from the Seoul airport at 11.30am by bus and transported to our hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were told that we had to wait until 3pm to check into our rooms. Being exhausted and close to collapse we eventually paid $40 extra to access a room to rest. This was a disappointing start to our holiday.

Other than this we were pleased with the standard of accommodation and bus travel in South Korea, with a great guide who was very attentive to our needs.

We had a typhoon in South Korea and another in Japan which of course affected the weather and visibility when sightseeing.

In Japan the bus driver was excellent but we were disappointed with our Japanese guide who gave us misinformation with regards to booking Studio Ghibli tickets, which caused us to miss out on the experience when we got to Tokyo.

Tour was fairly well organised but, a week or so after we booked, we were informed there were no flights available. Luckily, we were able to book on an earlier tour. Otherwise, the accommodation was ok and itinerary was packed with activities and sights.

Full credit goes to the Japanese tour guides at Tomato Travel, especially the tour leader Samantha and her team including Connie, Yumi and the coach driver Kimora San who were extremely friendly, patient and helpful. They went out their way to make sure our trip was memorable and exciting!

Tomato did not give us final tour details till about 1 week before departure. Even then I had to phone several times. Their communication was not good. We booked abTokyo day tour and had the same problem. When we finally got details, we ended up on a different tour to the one we had booked.

Our Tour guide was a little old for the job. The palaces we visited were empty and very boring. We expected a really good final dinner and get together with guide, we had none of these things. We had a makeshift dinner in a dreadful chinese run hotel. The food was dreadful. Next morning the breakfast was worse. Very chinese with dried fish, dry bread no toast or butter or jam. All I ate was deep fried chips.
Left to our own devices when we reached Tokyo.

Flight arrangements ex Adelaide,Melbourne.Guangzhou to Seoul, very inconvenient, since Southern China Airlines flies daily from Adelaide.Singapore airline option offered to other travellers an even better option.Tour arrangements were very good, although 46 passenger numbers in Japan had its challenges.Name lanyards as supplied on previous webjet tours would have grouped us together more easily.
