Writing.com Reviews & Complaints (21)

So long as you are interested in writing as a whole, I think this site would offer a fairly nice experience. It has a competent set-up and more or less allows for any type of writing, regardless of genre or maturity, so long as you've marked it correctly. If I had to mention an issue I have it would be the minimum ways of commenting on something. The only means are through either reviews or personal messages, which whilst they may let you get your message across, leave a bit to be desired.

I just started but am already "into the writing zone". Just signing up is a creative rush. System is a bit complex and could use a kindly yet humorous guide like a Yoda or Splinter the sensei for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not cartoonish but the right mix of humor and seriousness. I am sure there are writers out there with ideas. I am partial to cats, Albert Einstein and Wolverines.

Whether you simply read, or write for the site, there are plenty of hidden gems and activities to make a paid membership worth it. Not ALL stories are great... or even good, readers have to admit that, and it does take a while to find them, but it is very interesting to see some of these authors grow. Unfortunately, there is little external incentive for the authors to take the criticism and actually change their story. The connections and networking are a bonus- as it is quite difficult to find people who enjoy talking about writing outside in the real world.

I would not suggest this. You see, this site is, basically, a pay to use site. Most of the admins aren't particularly nice . It's quite restrictive and one is isn't allowed to post more than ten things unless you pay. I didn't stay there long. In short, there are other writing websites, worth your time.

This site has provide a vibrant and continuous flow of ideas, prompts, suggestion and opportunities for writers both young and old to critique each other. Gain exposure by sharing works. It's a natural beta reader site, as anyone can post, receive reviews and experience how their work will be received.

The admins are lying about the server load. They are forcing users to pay for the one service (interactive stories) that is actually popular. They censor criticism of it and act very passive aggressive. Do not use this website for interactive stories.

I joined Writing.Com (WdC) in November of 2002 and haven't regretted my decision even once during these 18 years. I was like so many others who were born in the 1940's, I grew up during the time that TV was growing in popularity and was vigorously seeking writers for the weekly programs, while both radio and the book publishing industry were very profitable for those lucky enough to break into the business. Well, my dreams of being a popular novelist never really materialized, but I never lost the desire to become a writer. I largely taught myself to study the output of those who attained success and I pushed through the million words that I had to wrote before I could even begin to call myself a writer. I wasn't very successful then and wrote short stories and a novel ... because I had to. After all those years, I found Writing.Com and joined their website. WdC is a friendly place where you can find a niche among writers of the same skill-level as yourself and meet others who have been working hard on their skills and are reaping some rewards for it. And that's what WdC is really all about; writers helping writers! Old writers helping New writers; after writing a poem or story or novel, you can get it read and critiqued, giving you the opinions of others as a guide for improvement. WdC had many groups to join, such as Superpower Reviewers Group, contests like Weird Tales Contest or SCREAMS, a daily contest in the Horror genre, or you can enroll in writing classes and learn (or re-learn) how to write! If you have, or ever had, that overpowering, restless drive to write, I strongly believe that yshoujoin Writing.Com, where you will find an atmosphere of encouragement. You can join with a Free Membership or choose from four paid memberships, Check out WdC and, though I'm not a betting man, I think it's in your Destiny to become the newest member in this unique website of friendly and creative people. When you join, make sure that you tell them that storyteller [retired] sent you!

All writing sites have good and not-so-good points. Any level of writer can benefit from the site by just using those things that are helpful like getting others to read and offer comments as you polish your work. There's places for all genres and collaboration, and you can have a blog (at a Upgraded membership level). For those not interested in a social scene, you can skip that part of it and still progress your writing. It may not be perfect for everyone, but any writer can find it useful.

As a poet here at WritingDotCom there are not enough serious opportunities for truly improving my writing abilities. I learned quite a bit in my beginning years, but I have reached a plateau when I compare my writing with other sites and poetry magazines.

The site is very large and complicated. It's been around a long time with lots of members. So it's easy to get lost amongst everything. But the community is OK and if you just want to post some writing then it's great.

In the eleven years I've been a paying member of Writing.com, I have progressed from a novice just figuring out how to write stories and poems to a traditionally published author. The site encourages support, critiques, and contests, and manages to be a safe place for self expression without allowing the kinds of a abusive behaviors that plague many social networks and communities.

I have been a member for 7 years. As with any good site it continues to charge membership fees based on the level of support you need and to support the website. It is good site for learning how to improve your writing craft with supportive feedback from its members. The site also provide many reference materials to help with writing, editing and markets.

If you're looking to improve your writing skills, network with fellow authors, read new & interesting stories & poetry, or just share your work with your peers, this is the place for you. Getting started takes minutes, and is incredibly easy. On my first night, I'd uploaded three stories and received six incredibly helpful reviews. A wonderfully supportive community, an easily navigated site containing a plethora of useful tools; the most constructive environment online for aspiring writers I can't recommend this site enough!

I have to say that I've been on and off with writing.com but all in all, it is one of my favorite outlets with creativity and words. I have to admit that from my side, I didn't give much time to explore the many many options and tools in this website, but I know they are there. I use it mainly to post poems (and in few times before I did post other articles and stories), so in that venue it is just enough for me.

I've been a member of Writing Dot Com now for nearly a decade. My experience has been helpful, entertaining, and ultimately inspires me to keep reading and writing. I've entered contests, won a couple, been published in newsletters, offered many reviews to assist other writers, and had a blast all along. I strongly recommend this site to any aspiring writer, and even to people who are just looking for things to read and/or review!

At first they spread out the welcome mat so fast it makes your head spin. But you quickly learn that it is nothing but a cheap commercial scheme aimed at boosting the egos of some people with no lives and a superiority complex. In a nut shell, if you don't pay, you forfeit your right to being considered a good writer by the oh-so-supportive community of this website. They even lure you in and offer you an upgraded membership for a few months when you first join. My advice, stay away from this website, unless you enjoy interacting with overly entitled, no-talent, snobs. Also, the reason why there are so many positive reviews on here is that they actually offer rewards to the writing.com community for reviewing products, their own site included.

I have wanted to improve my writing skills. I checked out some online classes, etc. I came across Writing.com by chance while searching for online resources. It is a very helpful site. You can get good quality, constructive reviews of your work. There are many helpful resources. Many are free. The members made me feel like a part of the community from the start. I would recommend Writing.com for anyone who wants to write, and also for people who just want to read some very good work.

Ever think you're in a rut? Don't think your writing is any good? Want to try a new genre? Check out Writing.com's contest section. It's a great way to test your writing chops, flex those unused writing muscles, and get helpful criticism. Submissions can be anywhere from poems to novellas, though most fall into the 1000 - 2000 word short story category. Check them out, I think you'll like being part of the community.

I have been a member of Writing.com for many years now and I love it. There is a choice of membership options and even the free membership allows more than other websites. Originally I came in just to read other people's writings, but now I write as well, along with reviewing and participating in a number of groups, activities and forums. There's always something to do and there is a real sense of community here. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone.

I love writing.com but there is only one thing that makes me hate it and it's the resource limitations thing. If you don't like spending that I would go to this website because it happened to overload in the servers and only members get to bypass it.
