Stipc.com Reviews & Complaints (8)

I purchased a W2v Asus ensemble laptop from them a year ago with an education discount, (10% iirc) which was nice that they acknowledged both student's and military personnel's needs. Their main representative, John Fierst, was courteous and responsive, I did not have many issues with the ordering aspect but did exchange several inquiry emails about the product itself and he responded promptly. Roughly a month in I did have a problem with my laptop LCD blanking out and acting strange when working in a program, loose keyboard and occasionally starting up with no sound drivers installed requiring a reboot to remedy. The sales rep initially referred me to the service tech for the keyboard issue that they were unable to solve (apparently inherent problem) then told me to RMA the laptop and their service tech, Tom Rodgers, emailed back saying they couldn't figure out the problem at first, and it was to be $90 to keep my personal data, which I declined. They later concluded it was a program I installed which was used to undervolt the CPU to keep the fan off and power usage down and consequently wiped out my HD with a fresh install charging me $90 for the simple task and on top of that the sound driver still refuses to load on occasion to this day. When the laptop came back the first start up was of some fatal error starting up with with strange pixelated screen (that continued several times, though more infrequently so) and running weird when it did so, at that point I didn't want to send it in again so I ignored it and have been using it since. I would really like to install the undervolting program to keep the heat and increasing fan noise down but am afraid they won't perform a second repair if I do so. Now I find out that the Matshita UJ-845S slot load drive has common power calibration issues and won't burn CD-R's.
Overall I'm still satisfied to an extent as the hardware isn't really theirs to blame and everything went smoothly purchase wise but I felt their service tech was a bit rude, though understandably so when it comes to someone who deals with customers problems frequently. Still, I feel they could improve on that aspect of the service since I don't think they even tested my laptop thoroughly before sending it back. I'd much rather have them keep it for a bit more than to have these problems down the road. Luckily I still have the 2 year warranty and plan to send it in soon when I won't be relying so heavily on my computer and back up my files. They even sent me coupons/coupon code for referral purchases for 10% off which I gave to a classmate who then purchased a similar laptop. I will most likely be updating this review after I send in my laptop in for the second time but for the time being I'd recommend and would do business with them again.

I ordered a battery that was out of production and I could not find anywhere else. Star Tech researched my needs, found a battery and got it to me in a very quick and efficient manner. Thanks for all your help, Star Tech, the laptop works great again and is back in a productive environment.

I received my W3v in one day upon arrival into the U.s. StarTech Proved to be the best price, bests service, and best overall experience. I would highly recommend this retailer and would absolutely buy from them again. The student discount on top of it all makes them the obvious choice. Buy with confidence!

I highly recommend StarTech (starpcs.net) for your computer / notebook purchases. We were in trouble because our not-so-old Sony Vaio's motherboard fried. My partner (and art director) needed a laptop urgently. I ordered an Asus V6V from StarTech (starpcs.net).

Many vendors take several days to ship, then we have to wait another week for ground transportation. Another issue that presents a problem with many vendors is that our credit card has a different billing address from our shipping address. These vendors will ONLY ship to the billing address, no exceptions.

StarTech ships next day (with ground shipping delivery in about 4 business days). By allowing us to fax evidentiary documents (driver's license, etc.), StarTech also accommodated our request for shipping to a different address. Further, while discussing my needs with the StarTech salesperson, he realized that we were eligible for a student discount, which saved us $60. It's not every day you deal with an outfit that is so diligent on behalf of its customers.

A glitch occurred between the sales department and the shipping department. The shipping department didn't get our order out next day (a Friday) as promised. Our salesperson, who had been following up on our order, realized this and arranged for 2nd day shipping at no cost to us.

Another good deal is that I was able to place my order over the phone. Other vendors force us to use their quirky and frustrating online order processing engines (particularly the ones that allow you to configure the laptop).

And finally, I was able to provide my Visa card, which I wanted to use because of the integrated equipment insurance coverage I get from the credit card company. Other vendors make us use their PayPal accounts, which doesn't always work and invariably, PayPal wants us to open an account just to make a purchase.

We will use StarTech again when the need arises.

Purchased 2 ASUS laptop computers from Star Tech. Both units arrived quickly as promised. During shipping one wireless card had come loose. I contacted tech help and they walked me the procedure to reinstall the card. It has been 4 months and both computers work flawlessly. I would recommend Star Tech to anyone who wants to purchase quality products backed by superior service.

We ordered from this online retailer a total of 3 notebook pc's. They accepted orders ahead of the actual release of these units from the mfg. Two months after the initial purchase we wanted additional power supplies, their website listed the incorrect p/s 60w instead of 90w required. So we contacted them and they indicated they could not get the parts from mfg. We found the same parts they "could not get" from another retailer and had them within a week. What does that tell you?

October 2004 I was in the market to purchase a laptop for my wife, when a co-worker referred me to Star Tech. I was unfamiliar with the Asus product line, however after I did some research I became impressed with the products and the prices were very attractive. I decided to purchase the M3 laptop and placed the order on their website.

I received a callback from a Star Tech representative that same morning to verify that I was the person who actually had placed the order. In the course of the conversation I was asked how I had heard of Star Tech. I replied that a co-worker had referred me to them. He asked for the name of my co-worker, verified that my co-worker had purchased equipment from Star Tech and immediately credited my purchase with a referral discount. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by the additional bonus!

The laptop arrived promptly and my wife has been using it happily ever since. Whenever I'm in the market for a replacement for my own home computer, Star Tech will be my first stop.

We searched online and found that this business has an active Facebook page with 58 followers. From our experience this can indicate that the business is either not actively engaged with online communication or is new and growing. We have found that this business does not have SSL (secure sockets layer), which means that you should think twice before trusting this business with your data, such as personal information or credit card details, because your information will not be digitally connected to a cryptographic key and secure connection cannot be established. We found that the domain for this business is older than two years which could be an indication that this is a trustworthy business with an established customer base and experience in their field.
