Healthier Weight

Sought surgery after many years of yoyo dieting. Medication for a chronic illness has made it impossible for me to control my appetite/weight for the last 6 years.

Saw Mr Nutt at St. Joseph's hospital, Newport. Had Gastric Band surgery at the end of February.

All of the staff from the staff on reception, pre-op nurses, ward nurses, anesthetist (Dr Mohammed) , theatre nurses were professional, kind and caring. The surgery was straightforward and recovery very uneventful (I didn't need to take any painkillers at all!).

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mr Nutt and St. Joseph's hospital, Newport. Lifechanging decision for me - 10 weeks post surgery, 35 pounds lost.

I had warm and friendly phone conversation
and and friend appointment with a consultant who answered all my questions and took the time to listen to me

The thing that stood out the most was I felt everyone care about me know hard sell in fact the team were only willing to go a head unless I was 100% sure I wanted to go a head with the procedure

My first appointment was cancelled at the hospital after waiting a couple of hours , it was then re-scheduled for the week after , the procedure went well , the doctor & all the hospital staff were lovely , the procedure was quick although slightly uncomfortable which I was expecting , I am so pleased I had it done & am happy with the weight I have lost so far , I would recommend it & I would allow yourself one weeks recovery period , this is not nice but does pass .

Healther weight was the best option for me and I'm glad I went with them absolutely been brilliant took care of me really well they always said I can call them at any time or email them if I need advice or worried about anything even xmas day which I thought was good the room was lovely was like being in a hotel room with a tv felt really comfortable

The meeting with Healthier Weight consultant and nurse made my husband and I feel reassured. They took their time explaining everything and my operation is going ahead on 04/01/20.
I feel nervous and excited. My husband had loads of questions and he will be coming with me.
Hopefully 2020 will be a new start . My husband always tries to eat what I eat and so hopefully his new eating regime will benefit him also

I had a gastric band back in March 2019, it was done by DR Humouda in Nuffield, Tonbridge Wells. I have not had any problems at all with the Healthier Weight team, they consistently keep in touch with me and the ladies that call are always very upbeat and friendly. I recently needed a defill and I was seen within 4 days of my reporting my issues. Brilliant service, very happy. Thank you.

I was lap bannded on the 15th of November at Rosshall hospital .
I cant fault the treatment Ive had so far from my consultant,nurses & those at healthier weigh .
Would highly reccomend !!

I have had such a great experience with Healthier Weight, from my very first phonecall to enquire about procedures, to having the first fill in my band, everyone has been super helpful. Everything has gone really smoothly, and communications from HW have been fab! I feel that I was very well informed every step of the way, and I am delighted with the results, so far!! I would definitely recommend Healthier Weight to anyone considering bariatric surgery!

I am now 9 weeks post band and I understand and agree for my fill getting cancelled due to covid19 however I have not had much communication from healthier weight and feel out of the picture as to when I will get a fill, if my 2 years will be extended due to this. If the progress I am making at the moment is in line with where I should be.

Pre-operation : 2 out of 5. The initial consultation was fine pretty standard
The blood tests prior were terrible, poorly managed, took 2.5hours - worse than NHS.
Informed HW was told I’d get a phone call but didn’t but that was ok.

Surgery : 5 out of 5. Very qualified surgeon, nurses and care staff on the day exceptional.

Post-Operation : 3 out of 5 A very low and vulnerable time for some people. Would have expected more contact
Very upset that I called in a bit of a mess to speak to a nurse and wasn’t allowed to be put through instead the admin team answered my questions and incorrectly.
Sent an email and a nurse kindly called me late that night and was lovely

Since then thought calls every 2 weeks nurses are lovely and this period of calls is absolutely fine. It’s just the first week if you aren’t well you are so so vulnerable and should not be made to talk through private issues with non medical personelle.

Other:
Slightly upset my private email address got shared with +40 people one of which I recognised ! Not great when you are keeping this private. HW did apologise and I appreciate accidents happen.

Was told my payment would come out the a certain date then queried this and was told a different date - someone was meant to call me back (they didn’t) and it got taken anyway.

My pre-op pack was delivered to the wrong address despite being told to be in at the address as it couldn’t be left without a signature, no problem had someone available all day then they left it down the side of the other address unsigned,

All such minor things but just felt a tiny bit unprofessional when all added together if that makes sense.
As said the surgery is the most important thing and this went so well !

Have 2 years of aftercare now and hopefully that will be great and if that is good all the above is forgotten and would recommend

So friendly and welcoming, felt like i had known her for years not just 5 minutes, was really quick, was seen before my appointment time and overall lovely visit and person
