Just received my 2 books today via FedEx and they are really fantastic! I chose blurb due to their InDesign plugin which made creating the book extremely easy (for an existing InDesign user). The book is the final submission of my architectural thesis and the quality of the images and construction of the book are very important to me... Blurb did not dissapoint! I chose the hardcover with imagewrap and premium lustre paper. The quality is outstanding, images are sharp, saturation, contrast etc is just as on screen! My only slight gripe, is that the premium lustre paper is v glossy, (almost like photo paper) not the "hint of gloss" advertised. However, images and text do look v good on this paper.

Overall a fantastic service, my book was even delivered a day early! I would recommend highly to others

I have been using Blurb for a few years now but for the last couple of years I haven't been at all impressed with their mono printing. I shoot RAW, processing files in Capture One Pro 8 and finalising the process in Photoshop. My screen is calibrated. Yet my mono shots have either a greenish tint to some shots and many of them printed around minus1 stop, so quite dark. As most of my work is 95% mono these days I am after a service that cares about mono as much as I do and doesn't regard it as just an aside to general colour photography. I'm not going to bother about photographing the book and asking for a reprint because that won't solve the problem for the future. Instead I will I will think about trying somewhere else I think.

Blurb used to be good, and I have recommended them to many people. But of late I have found the European printing less than satisfactory. So sorry Blurb! I'm not a happy bunny anymore.

We took advantage of the Black Friday 50% offer to finally get our wedding books printed. We went for the hardcover image wrap with proline pearl paper. We found the software easy to use and much more versatile than other photo book software, as we could create our own layouts. It was definitely more work, but allowed us more freedom to design our book. As my husband said “it’s just like making a PowerPoint!”. The software also guided you to ensure the resolution was right and warned you if it thought there would be issues. Of course you are responsible for checking your photobook and after placing the order initially we realised we had made a mistake, but luckily you can cancel and re-order within a few hours of placing the order. After the order was placed, I then read terrible reviews on here and was worried about the books, but needn’t have done so as they are stunning. We had 2 copies of each and on 1 of the copies the glue was a bit sticky - but they quickly responded and dispatched me a new copy FOC. All in all a great experience, very happy with the product and will be using again.

My experience has been a great one, I created my photobook and received it within 9 days. Quality was outstanding, only downfall is wished shipping costs were cheaper.

First reason - create and order in England, print in Holland, ship to Germany and then by ups to some grotty little back street store so that I have to get a cab to collect my order after ups claimed to have delivered it.
Second reason - Wanted to order more copies but bookstore site wont let me search by author or title. Went to 'my blurb books' and log in/password procedure kept failing.
Blurb. You were good when you were small and people cared. Now yo've lost the plot.

Having had a total of 20 picture books printed by Blurb over the past five years, I can honestly say that as a professional photographer I have been very happy with every single one.

I assemble my books with Adobe Lightroom, which is my main photo editor, and the printed results have in each case been exactly the way the pictures look on the screen. Obviously a little less luminous - it is after all a printed product and not a backlit screen - but as close as a printing process can possibly get. Colours are spot on and details are retained in both highlights and shadows.

Prices may be on the high side compared to other sites, but the quality fully justifies it.

I ordered 2 lay-flat 7 inch books from Blurb. Each was around 80 pages, so quite a substantial project. They were volumes 1 and 2 of my Vietnam photos from a recent visit.

On arrival the covers were reversed, Volume one cover was on Volume two book and vice versa. In all other respects the job was great, but the covers being correct was important and I contacted Blurb’s support. An automated response came straight away. Lena, at Blurb, followed up with a personalised email three working days later to say that they were re-printing the job (no cost other than import duty - I guess this was because this time they were shipped from the USA).

The books arrived today, 8 days after my initial request.

I’m pleased with the way Blurb (and Lena) have handled this. No fuss, quick response. The books look great, just as they originally did, but with the correct covers. I’ll continue to use Blurb, obviously.

I used to make books for my photography clients around 5 years ago with Blurb.
For the UK, their European printing factory in The Netherlands is very reliable so far for me.
No nasty mistakes like mentioned here by many USA customers.

But I'm disappointed their postage, especially for small booklets.
Their postage cost same with large books. Obviously it is not fair.
Still they never change this system.

Final blow is their book preview.
I was happily embedding and showing book previews of my books in my blog pages as well as my client's website.
But they have changed the system and supplied new embedding codes, which doesn't work on firefox, works on Chrome as a tiny preview with huge empty white background, the code for blogs is not preview, just a link to the preview page.
Overall their new book preview is such poor quality and unusable with our web designs.
And previous beautifully working book previews will stop working end of this month.
I decided to remove or abandon all book previews, and totally lost interest to make and promote my photo books in future.
I do not think I make new book with them any more for professional purpose.
Farewell.

I took "a chance" to compile an album of old photos covering the 90 years of my Aunt's life. The large format book arrived very promptly and was of fantastic quality. Even the photos were there was a query regarding pixel content, looked clear and sharp. The layout was also so much better than comparative products.
The book was the talking point of the party and others said they would be trying Blurb in future. An unqualified success in a short order time! Something to treasure.

I ordered 2 photo books from Blurb, this was my second order with them the first order had been ok, however this order is only fit for the bin. They printed 2 pages with the same photo next to each other and have confused the two books by adding photos from the first book to the second by mistake and vice versa. I spent ages designing the books as they were to be Christmas presents for family but now I'm having to spend days emailing back and forth to customer services to even get a refund as you can't get an answer on customer services number just voicemail. Unfortunately I'm still trying to get a refund and will have to try and order these books elsewhere. It's been a total waste of time and I recommend avoiding this company.

After spending 2 and a half hours dragging over 200 photos into the book one by one and finally finishing just to have my book 'not save' is beyond infuriating. One of the most unprofessional and overall awful systems I have ever come across. Despite saving my work every 5 minutes I end up with nothing left of the birthday present I was making for my grandmother. Don't put a save button there if it does no work? If I do not get some sort of compensation for this I will be taking further action to ensure many people will not use this service and will find another company with a far better system.

I have now used Blurb UK for 5 years. Since April 2014, I have purchased 24 photobooks, and the quality of the printing has always met or exceeded my needs. On one occasion, a package of two books was damaged in transit and after I emailed a picture of the smashed-up corners of the books to Blurb, they immediately reprinted them and sent the new copies to me, express, at no further charge. There’s no doubt that Blurb photobooks come at quite a high price, and I have no valid standard for price comparison with other suppliers. But no one need ever pay the list price because if you sign up to their emailed special offers, there’s almost an embarrassment of discounts to be had; unless you’re in a tearing hurry you can always wait for a few days to get the next routine 25% or 30% off a low-volume order of 1 or 2 copies. (Black Friday might well bring you 50% off if you can manage to wait until October.) Blurb’s own book creation tool, BookWright, is obviously capable, and it’s free to use, and relatively easy to learn. But I did abandon BookWright for a much more expensive option: when producing my latest work—basically a photobook but with a very large amount of text in it. For a large landscape format book with 240 pages with 880 images supplemented by over 73000 words, I used the Blurb plug-in for Adobe InDesign, which has much more capability in managing text. This is probably a prohibitively expensive option unless you are already a licensed Adobe user, but it’s worth recording that the InDesign plug-in worked flawlessly for me.

I recently ordered my first e-book. Ten months later I discovered that there were passages of text missing. My mistake I didn't check earlier upon receipt of the book. Blurb's mistake that the error was their's. Four stars? Because when I made a complaint I got an immediate refund, as I say, TEN months later. Thanks Blurb. I'll continue to use your website, as I have done for many years.Customer support was brilliant.

I have two orders 7832295 and 7829780 that should have arrived "before 29 May" and "before 1 June". There's no sign of them and have received ZERO response to my 'support requests' from Blurb. Looks to customers like they are going out of business. I used them years ago and they were fine - but now terrible - and their support is non-existent. Of course they'll blame it on the virus.....

I spent hours setting up a book for a present to my daughter for xmas. I just finished the book and was checking through when i staters to get pop up messages asking for access for my computer's memory. I clicked to no three times. Then the whole project was slowly wiped off. i now cannot find it on the site.

Don't use them. I wasted probably 6 hours on this. Oh and no answer from the customer services.

Whilst this appears to be a UK based company, the book I ordered came from the USA.

Book ordered 1 Dec 18 - arrived 6 Jan 19

I also ended up paying £13.38 customs and handling charge, making this very poor value. If you look carefully, it does mention customs charges on the site, but I thought it implied VAT was already added, therefore no customs charges.

The quality of the product is good, but there is better value for money from UK suppliers.

Is it just me not paying attention - have ordered two lay flat photobooks plus postage to the value of just over £90 from Blurb UK. I thought approx £25 shipping was excessive not knowing or being informed the printing is done in the USA - now UPS want to charge me £19.97 import duty - I believe there is no duty or VAT due on books imported into the UK.

Update :- My query was answered promptly by Zoe from Customer Support and a solution offered which I was happy to accept. The books have arrived and are of Blurb's usual high quality.
I'm not sure if I missed information about layflat books when I ordered but I feel details about their printing in the USA, expensive postal charges, and possible duties on import should be more prominent on the Blurb UK website. However I shall continue to recommend Blurb to my friends.

I'm now on my third shipment of replacement books, They keep turning up damaged and each time I have to pay Vat on the shipments. The replacement shipments should have a zero value so I don't have to pay.

Great books but no good if you can not delivery them in pristine condition.

Also to top off my frustration they don't have a phone number anywhere.

Disappointed.

Part 2 of my previous review and in response to Blurb’s response: Customer Service contacted me, after 5 emails over a course of 3 weeks and they only asked me to verify my shipping address and said they see the shipment is with USPS. That is not what I would call working on it or with me. I provided all the information needed, including my order number, and it should not take days to hear back from them after confirming my address. I responded immediately, to that request, and haven’t yet received a response. At this point, I’ve demanded either a refund or for Blurb produce my books, with expedited shipping. This level of customer service is unacceptable.

I'm currently writing children's short stories which I retail around £7.99 but blurbs postage costs are ridiculous. The answer they gave is because the books come from America and I'm in UK. So by the time someone purchases one of my books it can cost £15+ which for a children's short story is a killer no one will pay that. If you can't produce books from the UK you shouldn't advertise as blurb.co.uk it's false advertising.
