I have been with Commsec over 10 years and have never had a problem trading or getting my trades settled. I recently reactivated my account after a few years break and had no issues doing that either with a really pleasant phone operator helping me out. Easy to navigate and $10 trade brokerage seems like a good deal to me.

I have been with Commsec since 1997 and they have never let me down. Although I don't use iress, I do around 80 trades a year and trades are executed promptly and settlement of sales is in my account at the correct time.
I like the fact that I can place a buy order with insufficient funds in my CDIA account, and topping up within the required 2 days. I have had over the years a dabble with Macquarie and Etrade sharebroking, but I still prefer the efficiency and page layout of Commsec.

I have been dealing in shares for years with many brokers. Getting shares out of Commsec, in particular the offshore shares, is the most ridiculously complex process, with multiple forms operated by confused individuals, I have ever come across. They are the worst broker I have ever dealt with. The systems are a joke. They should stick to deposits and loans.

I've been with commsec for over 10 years now, no broker is perfect but commsec was good.
They are changing their website and it's not better for the end user, not happy Jan!
Fist they've changed Quotes and now porfolio and both are harder to read and across the whole page... not good and if you call them they never change anything it's waste of time. I agree with another user of Commsec here it's time to change the broker... does Commsec care?

I have been with CommSec for about 20 years and am very satisfied with the service it offers. The web site with all the information it provides is handy for small time and larger investors who have little time to spend on independent research. Information like current yield, dividend history, price history, recent announcements and 'recommendations' are easily accessible. Its fees are around the the best that are available. I have generally found the people on the help desk to be quite friendly and helpful if one is having difficulties using or navigating the CommSec site.

After signing paperwork to update my details and an earlier phone call this week to clarify same details, commsec rang again, i missed that call but returned it only to be put on hold while they located my file and then asked me a several security ID questions to which i answered along with a sms code sent to my mobile phone. Partners email different but they wanted same email address on both comm account and commsec account. At the end of the call no further advancement and i was asked to go to a branch to ID myself. Time to find another broker platform. Rubbish service from COMMSEC 4 security id questions should be enough to verify who i am.

Have been with them for almost 20 years, but have recently lost faith in the company.

Their back-office operations for international share trading are a total absolute shambles. Do not even bother!!!! I lodged an application, they said it would take two weeks (which is a long time to begin with). In the end it took three weeks just to tell me that I'd done a typo on the form. Then the form had a "Processing error" that took them a month to sort out. In the end I probably had a dozen calls back and forth and the stock that I had been wanting to buy rose 40% whilst all this was happening.

I suggest you use another broker for International Shares... even if you are already with Comsec. The process will be quicker by about 2 months...

Been trading (retail trader) for 3 years now, cant find anything bad about the service. Although reading the other bad reviews i could see how they would have had trouble. The thing is there isn't that many great alternatives out there unless your a serious trader dealing in 10,000 to 100,000s of dollars in trades per year. So for best lowest cost, yet reasonable amount of info on companies this is the best.

You can always sign up free of charge and try it out (before buying any stocks). Just do some research in the website on companies, and if you dont like it then deactivate it. free of charge, unless you trade. Believe me, doing the actual trading isnt the problems people complain about, its everything else!

Just FYI, don't forget to pay for the trades you do. They charge $100 per day for every day you dont have the money in the account (the money gets direct debited on the 3rd business day of transaction, ASX rules are T+2). And you are an idiot if you forget to have the money in there. your not in high school anymore, you cant use excuses.

It takes 1 or more business days to transfer money from a CDIA to the international share trading account. Forget it if you want to buy a position quickly before it rises, you actually need to already you know you want to buy days before.. because that’s how CommSec international operates. Slow and pathetic.

Commsec requested my wife ring them, which she did, She didn't know the account number so she asked me for it.
She was then told to report to a CBA branch, I asked what all this is about, why did they want her to ring them. my request was ignored.
I emailed Commsec with the details of what occurred. I said my wife will not be going to any bank until they can tell us why my wife had to contact them.
Their reply; YOU ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED.

I've always been investing in stock market, for about 10 years now. Most of it was overseas before I moved to Australia. So, when I moved here 2 years ago, I looked at many different trading platforms like the Big 4 and CMC markets. While CMC is good and brokerage is cheaper (if not cheapest), the downside is when you're trading in the USA market. It offers only a small list of companies you can trade in. So if you want to trade in US stocks, this is not a good option for you. Moving on to NabTrade & Macquarie, it offers pretty much the same kinda features and brokerage, so I opted for CommSec since I was already a CommBank customer. The CDIA i.e. trading account with CommSec took only a few minutes to open. Plus I got $500 off on my transactions for 3 months - It was an offer deal, which they're no longer offering now. So right there I saved a lot of brokerage money. Overall, the CommSec App is easy to use. I do my own purchases and stock research so I haven't really used or seen any of their brokerage reports or analysis, hence not in a position to comment on that. Overall, I'm happy with them.

Great difficulty encountered selling remaining asx listed shares in commsec sharepack purchased almost 13 years ago through commsec in my name as a long term investment for my two grandchildren.
CommSec originally registered SHAREPACK holdings in 2006 as:
my full Name , with registered address as our P.O. Box! However on requesting CommSec to sell these shares they requested I must change the 3 holdings' registered address to our residential address, which I subsequently arranged. Then CommSec requested that I change the registered name of each shareholding from that in which they had originally registered the shares(from above designation) to an abbreviated form (with 26 letter limit) that now suited CommSecs' current lodgement requirements. I refused to rectify another (2nd) mistake that CommSec had made on lodgement of shareholdings & have cancelled the order to SELL these shares.; hopefully this will be acted upon!
It is difficult to believe that CommSec still readily promotes the sale of their SHAREPACK investment product, yet has NO procedures in place redeem such investment, if/when required!

I have been with them for a while and the app itself is very helpful but the phone service is useless... Lost $300 because they did not release some share on a deferred settlement listing. I called and confirmed the shares were free for trade and they were not...

Other brokers offer similar services for a much cheaper price and you don't have to call to confirm anything. All stock is available immediately.

Also while trying to fix my problem (and I havent been able to) I had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with someone that didn't understand the issue and kept on asking interrogatory questions to see if I understand the market. Two weeks later they called and said that this is how things are and that they have to manually accept my transaction before it goes to market... 2020 and someone has to manually approve my transaction... Just excuses and don't want to take responsibility.

No reason to transact with Commsec at all... Higher prices lower service...

the RC nneeds to be extended to include the sharebroking arm of the banks in particular commsec /cba who took over my broker (avcol) in jan 2008 and stopped me exiting the market during that dramatic fall of the GFC for 20 days.I lost $200000 and my brothers estate $180000 as a direct result.

Opened a shares Trust account for my 12 year old son, which he then resumes responsibility for when he is 18.
I wanted to purchase shares on the NYSE and was told i could do that once I had opened a CDIA account for him. Once opened, i called in to find out how to open the international trading account, only to be told that they do not allow it. The female representative I was speaking to was quiet rude. When i asked her if i could speak to someone else, she told me they were too busy and to call back at another time.
This whole situation made me feel like all we were was a number to them. No genuine interest to help me.
Avoid using Commsec at all costs if you appreciate good customer service.

I transfered money from Netbank to Commsec via BPAY to buy shares and they still haven't credited my account after 3 days. They state 24 - 48 hours but thats not true.

I did email the CEO of Commsec [name removed] but no reply from him or his staff.

I live overseas for work and called them but was on hold for over an hour which cost more than $20 and still couldn't get thru to support. Someone did reply to me via email but never fixed the problem.

Why does a billion dollar company treat people so poorly?

And of course all the staff remain anonymous and never provide their surname which seems very weak.

This is their reply : Please note that it can take up to 24 - 48 hours for transfers to complete and overnight for the site to refresh.

I had money in my CIA (interest) account and no money in my CCA (trading) account.
I bought some shares; instead of the transaction bouncing back due to no money in the trading account, Commsec lent me the money at a rate of $50 a day.
I was not notified of this and by the time I realized several days had past and I incurred a penalty fee of $150.

late 2019 i mailed 2 divdend cheques to comsec for depositing. Something I've done many times over a decade or more. never had a problem with anything in comsec before but on this occasion they without advising me they suspended my account and have not allowed me to transfer my holdings away from them. They have stolen my right to my money with no communication. Have contactsd AFCA but no response, still within the 45 days.. Comsec have conditionally apologized but account remains suspended. How is this legal

Well I decided to open a trading account with Commsec because I've been a CBA customer for over 40 years & I thought it would be easy, BIG MISTAKE!

Well now its been 5 weeks since I submitted my application & my account still isn't open.

I have called them countless times & get completely different responses from their staff. They have asked for additional information which was emailed same day. Then I followed up next day to make sure they received it & yes all good. I call a week later & they tell me they they don't have it & to resend it???

Their incompetence & complete lack of customer support is STAGGERING. After 5 weeks I have given up & will go with someone else.

I'm only giving them 1 star because I cant go any less.
