Been a customer for many years and needed to make a simple amendment to my policy. Spent 20 minutes in the queue for their customer services people to answer the phone. Hung up, dialled back as if I was a new customer and (surprise surprise) they answer the phone straight away! Happy to take your money! Further shocked at the hefty 'admin fee' to make a simple change, tried to cancel but their cancellation policy means I'd get none of my money back so had to pay the fee. At renewal time they send through the paperwork and policy has gone up another £40! Phoned around and got a better quote from Lancaster Insurance who answered the phone quickly, seemed to know what they were talking about and gave me a price that was £30 cheaper than I'd paid the year before, £70 cheaper than Footman wanted for this year! Avoid, they're just money grabbing robbing ****s

Have been with them for years, no claims, my circumstances have not changed. This year they have decided they are unable to insure me. I now have serious doubts as to what they have insured me for in previous years. Have serious doubts, as to whether they would have paid in the event of a claim. To make things worse, the staff don’t listen

Poor service all round. When they eventually answered the telephone the customer service person had never heard of an Alvis. They actually asked me to spell it! It doesn't inspire confidence that they are supposedly a 'specialist'

Utter rip off. A failed attempt to rip me off after 8 years by trying to charge me over 51% (£182.71) more for classic car insurance than that provided by another well known and renowned classic car insurance provider. I have been with Footman James for over 8 years for classic car insurance. Unfortunately, they decided to use that longevity in order to try and rip me off with the upmost contempt. I can only assume that those 8 years loyalty suggested to Footman James that I am either stupid or gullible or too lazy to shop around. Probably all three. I received a classic car renewal quote of these people showing a marked increase in my premium that I believed could not be justified. A premium quoted at £436.91. Upon questioning their price they stated that if I came back to them with a cheaper quote off another supplier they would look at their pricing. I came back to them with a quote at £100.91 cheaper for increased insurance provisions. I also informed them, as I had the other provider, that I had had a modern car wrote off by a lorry in December 2019 as a no fault and settled claim. A no fault settled claim as my car had been parked in a car park, empty with no one in it when a lorry decided to drive over it. That declaration was like a green light for them to really treat me like a fool. Upon this notice they decided to stick on a further £98.80, increasing the quote from £436.91 to £535.71. They even threw at me the added insult of claiming this further £98.80 increase included a 10% discount. On my challenge this was all justified by way of claiming the increase was computer driven and there was nothing they could do to reduce it. To that end I have dropped Footman James with the same contempt they have shown towards me. I have now insured with another renowned classic car insurer with better provisions at just £353. This includes full breakdown, home start, recovery, tax and arrangement fee, etc. To spell this out in no uncertain terms, Footman James wanted £182.71 more for providing less cover than that which I now have with another well known provider. In percentage terms that is approximately 51.25% more for less cover. This was nothing less than an outrageous attempt to rip off even though I had been with them for over 8 years. I hope as many people as possible read this review in its entirety.

Excellent, efficient, polite and not too pushy service from staff at Footman James. And they know their stuff which can't be said for a number of their competitors.

Think the girl I spoke to was perhaps one of your trainees as she was okay, but not your usual exceptional standard.

I've been dealing with you for years and always found you good.

To her credit my documents were sent instantly, so perhaps it was just a bad line.

I never normally renew on line for personal reasons but because of the Covid 19 period I did so to help. The whole process was quick and simple but I was annoyed that my documents were to be accessed on line and printed up by me if required. I do not have a printer only a laptop and this annoyed me. I am happy to renew on line under the circumstances but would like a paper copy sent out to me or at least an option for this for those that prefer or need this. Until this option exists i will return to non on line renewal next time.

First of all this is a bad time for the World so lets not be to hard.to renew my insurance i rang only to get a automated voice that kept repeatedly saying FOOTMAN JAMES,nothing else in the end i gave up and sent a Cheque on the 28th May on the 3rd of june i got a email saying would i like to pay,returning i said i had sent a Cheque on the 28th of may,i then received a phone call to say they had not recived it,this was when it came to light that this person was working from home,twice he phoned to say they had not recieved payment and dates are ticking away until he said he would speak to the accountant,one more day passed so i phoned my bank and put a stop on the Cheque this was now 10th of june,Ten minutes after phoning the bank i got a phone call from main office to say they have just recieved my Cheque,i told the guy sods law and told him i had just put a stop on it,but said if the bank returned it come back to me he did on the 15th i paid on line and my Documents came on the 16th,i see the problem split working has been the problem,i am happy to be with Footman James and have been for a long time,Regards Jim Doig.

I've been with Towergate and Footman James for years and found their customer service poor, but this year they seem to have improved. They offered me a better policy, answered my questions, and provided a side letter for the avoidance of doubt. I remain to see how the policy works and how they'll be next year.

I tried to arrange my insurance on line to begin with and found it difficult to arrange so then managed to make contact with a very helpful lady who was very helpful and sorted my insurance with in a few minutes.
