Thanks to their ridiculous expiry policy I am now $750 out of pocket. I am currently unemployed and desperately needed these funds! No where on the card does it state that you are required to activate by a certain date. I would have needed to activate this within a week of receiving this and was not advised of this at all.

Same deal tried to activate my card but was past the 3-month expiry - which is not clearly stated on their card so after 2 unsuccessful emails i quoted the ACCC and my card was activated -

Gift cards and vouchers
A gift card is usually loaded with an amount of cash that enables you or the recipient to exchange it for goods or services to the value of the amount on the card. It may also be provided in voucher or paper format.

Businesses must clearly state:

all conditions and restrictions on how you can use the gift card or voucher
the expiry date of the gift card or voucher, including the activation expiry date for cards that need to be activated
any limitation on the number of transactions
whether or not the card can be reloaded or topped up.
Gift cards or vouchers can’t usually be exchanged for cash, unless there is a remaining amount on the card that the business believes can’t be conveniently used.



The back of my gift card states that the card must be activated prior to use and to go to your website. I can’t find anywhere on the card that clearly states the activation expiry date. Please reconsider your decision to not activate my card based on this information. Please advise the outcome within 7 days.

Received from employer as a gift of $20.00 received August 2015, tried to activate and only found out that it can't be activated because it has expired. Rip offs.

I was given a gift card planet $1000 gift card by a supplier as a thank you for reaching a sales target with them.
I put this card away for something special. It is coming to the end of the expiry period 30/9/16. I thought I had better get it out and spend it. the back of the card states: To activate or check balance visit the website.
I did this and tried to activate the card - no luck.
I rang the company - they said my bad luck as I should have been told by the supplier who gave it to me that I had only 3 months to activate it or the money would be lost.
There wasn't any sticker on the card or anything actually printed on the card to reflect this - actually no advice at all.
I have alerted the gifting company to this fact - they had no idea.
I will contact the ACCC to report this scam and suggest that no one uses these gift cards in the future.

You have to activate the card apparently 3 months from the time of purchase but nothing is stated in the card apart from the spend expiry date. No way to credit back the money upon expiry of the activation date. Obviously a way to pocket consumers money!!! Shame!!!

I was given these gift cards as a present and forgot about them. There was no 'expiry' or 'issue' date on the card itself. However, when I checked online, the gift card is valid until 2017.

To my surprise, I was unable to activate these cards as they have a separate 'activate by date'. The company blames the person who gifted the card to me for not notifying me of the 'activation date'. However, it should most definitely be something printed on the card itself.

I even offered to pay an administration fee to have this extended. Only to receive a flat no, due to their terms and conditions.

I feel terrible that $900.00 is now gone just like that to gift card planet. They took the money without doing anything.

I'm very disappointed and will highly recommend that everyone stay away from the gift card company. Do not buy unless you want to risk giving away your money for nothing.

I received a gift card from a food manufacturer as I had purchased a product at the supermarket that was not up to quality. The gift card did not have any instructions with it, nor does it have an issue or expiry date on it. I tried to activate and it expired last year, not long after I received it. Total scam.

My friend bought a Fujitsu Air Conditioner in July 2016, with a cash back offer, which we applied for in late August. So what's the relevance?

Gift Card Planet are handling this cash back, and I can say this is the most delayed cash back I have ever encountered. 8 weeks were needed for 'processing" the claim, and then after it was successful, another 4 weeks for dispatch. We are still waiting. I emailed, and yes, they were polite:
"We sent you a dispatch email on the 25/10 letting you know your claim has gone into the dispatch stage. It also would have said to allow 4 weeks to receive your card. We apologise if you for some reason did not receive that email, but please allow 4 weeks from the 25/10".

They have until next week.

Mr Fujitsu will be hearing from us as well for using such a "service"!

I had a gift card issued to me by gift card planet in June 2019, I tried to activate my card a week after receiving it but the card seemed to have an issue and could not be activated, it is now February 2020 and I have called at least 200 times and no one has still been able to reissue me a new gift card or activate my current gift card, they say they are going to look into it and I never get a call back, no complaints line apparently and impossible to speak to someone senior. Absolutely ridiculous that they just get to steal $185 from me.

I called on several occasions and have not received a satisfactory response regarding my balance on the card being reduced from $100 to $0. What this company fails to realise is that I am the customer, the end user of the product. I have received no customer service. I worked for the $100 and to be told by a telephone operator that it was a promotional card is unacceptable. You only engage in email correspondence and fail to offer the service your other competitors provide. When I asked to speak to someone rather than engaging in an email exchange I was told you do not offer this facility. I have received conflicting information from your representatives. I have no option but to take the matter further. This company is owned by a larger operator that is well known and service does not matter?

My card only says the card is valid for 12 months from the date of activation. There isn’t anything listed about an activation expiry date. According to Victorian Consumer Affairs, your gift card should have the activation expiry and the expiry date listed on a card.
Gift Card Planet have said that they can’t put the activation date on there because they don’t know when the card is going to be activated and the consumer should be informed by the company purchasing the cards. However, with 2 years’ worth of negative reviews of consumers not being able to access their funds because the card is past it’s activation date, you could say they have made an abundance of money by not fully informing consumers. If Gift Card Planet were operating fairly, they would alert the consumer to ‘check the gift card activation date because it is not valid after this date’. They could even put a sticker on there, but they don't. I wonder what's there reason for making activation dates so short??? I suspect this is because it's in their favour and not the consumers. I will never use this product again and will not purchase from a company who use this product.

I was recently sent a gift card and checked the reviews which were generally negative. I hope most people have had my experience. It was easy to activate the card and I've used it at David Jones, Uni Qlo, Coles and Target without any difficulties. I would highly recommend the cards.

I was given mid last year gift card from market research. I couldn’t use the card because i did not activate the card three weeks from the day I received it.
I rang and wrote to planet gift card all they say sorry bad luck.
Total ripe off, no one should support this company because they steal your money.

Shame on you... Shame... Shame... Shame... Shame

I received my gift card in the mail yesterday afternoon, activated it immediately and used it today at several stores with no problems.... I was concerned after reading the poor reviews however my experience was great

We received our Good Guys eftpos card on the 15th of April 2016. We activated card online via website on 20-04-16. We went to use it in November 2016 and were told it was not valid at the store. I sent a couple of emails that did not receive a reply. I sent another email this year and was told the card had not been activated. I said that's not true as we did it on the 20-04-16. They reply back saying their system doesn't make errors. I questioned this and received no reply back. It's only $150 but i will not let this slide by on principle alone. These is a crooked way of getting people to buy products based on an offer and then have that offer revoked later and have no leg to stand on. I have also sent an email to Good Guys but have not received a reply - typical. I won't be spending any more $$$$ at Good Guys unless they sort this issue out. Beware shoppers.

If I wrote my review it would read nearly identical to the vast majority of the existing, however, I have decided to approach A Current Affair after my card from my claim which was approved in Oct of last year only just turned up, 2 MONTHS after their 3 month activation period had lapsed. I called and was asked to email the details and explain the situation and to request an extension which was immediately denied. This situation was completely beyond my control yet I have been penalised. In short, if you would like to join me in action against this company feel free to email me at [contact details removed] and use Gift card Planet ACA as the header.

Tried to use $300 3 days after the expiry date but was told too bad you've forfeited the money because you didn't use it on time. Complaints, requests all fell on deaf ears. Don't use these people if you are a corporation and steer clear if you are a consumer. These people don't deserve their business model to thrive.

I know i went online to activate my $150 card, tried to used it and it wouldn't work. According to them its not activated and now the three month limit had expired there is nothing they can do. This company has the worst customer service I've seen. Took over 10 days to get a reply to my email which just seemed more like an auto response. Won't be buy ANY products that offer cash back on a gift card. Never want to deal with them again.

2 years later and this is still happening! Ever thought your system is floored? Or is that the point, just keep the money! I received one of these cards for an LG Promotion. Went through the rigmarole of actually applying for the cash back (one of the reasons I bought the washing machine), received it, put it in my wallet and forgot about it. Very embarrassed today when I went to use the card today to find out I hadn't activated it and it had expired. I am a busy Mum of two small children, running a business 15 hours a day! Fine print isn't my thing! Shame on you!
