I purchased a Humane Contain pet containment system on line in early August, just before moving to a house without a suitable fence for containing my dog. I bought their top-of-the-line system, with their mid-range collar. It took me a little over a month to install the system with moving and all. Just before installing it, I put the collar on my dog so he could start "getting used to it." He broke it the first day. I shipped it back to the company for replacement, which did arrive in a reasonably timely fashion. I did have an extra collar, and proceeded to install the system, hand-burying approximately 1000 feet of wire. Once this was done, I again tested the system. It failed to produce a consistent signal, and would not, no matter what I did, deliver a shock on the collar as you approached the boundary wire. I called the company, and it was suggested that I use their batteries rather than the Duracell ones I had purchased. I ordered their batteries, and after about two weeks received them and tried them in the collars. There was no improvement. I again contacted the company. Every time I say "I contacted the company" I mean I made numerous telephone calls sometimes over several weeks, which for the most part either went voicemail and got no response or call back, or was routed to a person whose voicemail was full. Even calling back and asking to leave written messages did not get a call back. Only after repeated tries over many days were we able to reach someone.

Anyway, when I finally reached customer service, I was told to send back the transmitter and the collar (which had again broken after only one day of test use). After more than 2 weeks, I received replacements. These worked no better. I have now purchased a different system, which works fine, but High Tech Pet Products now refuses to allow me to return the product for a refund. In fact, they hung up the phone on my wife when she tried to discuss the subject, and on my inquiry sent an email denting the refund on the ground that more than 90 days have passed since purchase. (Ironically, this response came within a day of my email, by far the fastest response yet.) In light of the multiple returns and replacements and delays in getting customer service, I believe this return policy is unfair. I also believe the product is defective and of very poor quality.

I strongly warn everyone not to purchase this product or deal with this company. There are many better products on the market. Though Humane Contain may be cheap, it is no better than throwing your money in the garbage.

I have since tried the Dogtra product, which is of much higher quality, but returned that as well, as it was not as effective as I would have liked using it with the Humane Contain wire I already buried. Today we went ahead and had the Invisible Fence company install their system, which, though much more expensive than the others, does seem to be considerably better, and actually works like it is supposed to.

I have filed a BBB complaint against High Tech Pet in an attempt to get a refund.

I ordered the x-10 inground fence system and installation was fairly easy but it took a few hours more than I planed and i charged the collar overnight, this is great no batteries to buy. The system seems to work great and only took a few times for my 65lb boxer to relize her boundry area the flags are what she looks for so put out those flags people. next dont put the collar on the dog until u test the systems range u want, by walking the perimiter of the wire with the collar in your hand but be careful ok . set your range and start training your animal , thats it . the system really works great and does Not really hurt my dog and she loves her new freedom to run and play without a chain or leash im very well pleased with this product , thanks to the folks at high tech pet for a great product and the folks in customer service are very helpfull to the questions I did have, so Good luck to all who try this system its great . your loyal customer in south carolina

I ordered an RM-1 Scat Mat with 2 chargeable collars. I received the collars within days. I innocently made an inquiry to High Tech Pets asking for an ETA on the Mat. In two months of numerous requests for information I received only automated replies. I requested an RMA number and instructions on returning my order. This week (week of July 18) I received the mat. I'm going to return the equipment and hope that it does not take months to get my $320 back. I cannot purchase another solution until then. I am a VERY DISSATISFIED customer.

After purchasing a large pet door almost a year ago (which has been flawless) i had to get one of the collars replaced, After multiple attempts at calling and emailing i finally was connected to yvette, She got everything taking care of and was perfectly professional and friendly, She changed my opinion of the company after having a bad experience with another lady that had answered one of the times i called for information. So far im happy with my purchase and as long as you try to deal with yvette if you can regarding issues or getting items replaced you should have a pleasant experience.

Dec. 24th and still waiting for order placed Dec.6 and getting limited information after almost 3 weeks. Phone calls result in "they will ship it end of next week" with no other confirmations to follow. They already took the money from my credit card and still no shipping date or follow-up. I may cancel this order next week.

UPDATE JAN.5: The patio sliding door doggie door arrived and it works well and was easy to install. We had a Renewal by Anderson replacement patio door and needed the "shorty" patio dog door. After I called Hi Tech on Dec.28; I was told they would ship the door in the beginning of January and they refunded the shipping fee. The door was sent via FEDEX from Ventura. Overall, one must be persistent with Hi Tech and they eventually get the order done right. Their customer service still needs to get their information straight.

I purchased my 2nd Terminator 2 Bark collar for a cattle dog that was born deaf. Originally the first one malfuntioned. They sent the replacement with no problem. It worked great until my rottie was playing to ruff and distroyed it, but not before it did it's job. He quite barking all the time. Since then he started up again. I purchase an underground pet containment system from this company in August 2004. We installed it a month later. Everything worked fine until February 2005. I ordered a new collar for our new puppy. The old collar promptly broke. I received the wrong collar. I received a 4 foot long collar when I asked for a large one. I received two collars that would not charge. I have sent about a dozen emails that received canned responses or useless responses (i.e. "I'll forward to shipping" - but no action). I have repeatedly called and been placed on interminable holds or given voice mailboxes that were full. It is now April 22, 2005. I have no collars, a useless pet containment system, and a credit card charge for a collar that I have yet to use. I will never order from this company again. I have done my best to remain professional and businesslike with them, but they truly do not know the meaning of purchase equals good product delivered. I am giving them one more week and then pursuing legal options and the local consumer affairs reporter.

Hitech immediatly took money from my account for this order (dog containment system) but twenty days later I've recieved nothing. I've emailed their customer service department four times, and have only received an automated response. I've tried to telephone, but after waiting forever, it switches to a busy signal.

Stay away from this company!

I purchased the PX-2 in December 2011 and installed it in my garage door for my german shepard, and I looooove it! I am a free woman! I don't have to come home to let the dog out at lunch anymore. This is the most convienient/reliable pet product I've invested in. A must have!

I purchased the PX-1 Power Pet Door and was so pleased, until the collar sensor stopped working after 2 months. It also works only a few inches away from the door and at certain angles - no matter the setting on the door, which seems to be a gimmick. The door itself is great so far. My dogs love it and now go in and out much more often. I love the energy efficiency and the fact that no animal or anything else without the sensor can come in the house. It is well sealed and keeps the elements and cold/heat out much better than a regular pet door. When the collar stopped working I had to revert to the interior door that has a flap type dog door installed and leave the exterior door open that has the power door in it. (this would not work for people with one door that leads directly to the house!) I had no extra colar sensors. I now have purchased four more sensor collars (Sam's Club Online - much better prices) so that I have extras (two dogs). I love the concept and the door enough to put up with the collar. If they could perfect the collar sensors, they would have a GREAT hit. Right now it is not a 100% reliable product, there is a point when the dog(s) will probably be shut in or out of the house - not a big deal where I live in the very moderate temperate climate of the SF Bay area and I have a covered patio behind the pet door, but for really cold or hot climates, it would make me a bit nervous. This is probably the reality of any type of electric dog door with a sensor or magnet. Overall I would say the benefits and ease of use of the door outweigh the negative of the collar sensor issues. UPDATE: June 2008 - I have now had the new sensors for 6 months and they are still working perfectly - love the door and now love the sensors. My boys are very happy and absolutiely love this door and the freedom it gives them.

In April, we purchased an electric fence w 3 RX-10 collars for our 2 dogs from a friend who purchased it 3 yrs ago directly from High Tech Pets ("HTP"). Our friend never opened or used his system since his dog had died. We purchased it because the product claims to be fully waterproof, knowing that our dogs would swim in the pond on our property. 2 or 3 months after installing, all of the collars failed to hold a charge. Since we were outside the 1 yr warranty from the purchase date, we were forced to buy 2 new RX-10 collars, but 1 wk after receiving, both failed to hold any charge. We received new collars from customer service, but after ~2 weeks, one of our dogs was REPEATEDLY shocked after swimming for only 10 mins. When I complained to HTP (after being hung up on 4x), I was told that, contrary to their claims, RX-10 collars are NOT waterproof. However, Nick Bonge promised 3 RX-10 collars that he would personally waterproof test. That was over 1 mo. ago. Since, they have told us each wk (after i call them, and not from them calling me!) that the collars must be specially made to be waterproof and we'll receive them soon. My response is that i dont need something specially made, i just want collars that are waterproof, as advertised! After being told collars would be here last Tuesday (and receiving a email with a fedex tracking number claiming that the collars would be overnighted), and not receiving them, I called HTP informing them that I had not received a package from fedex. HTP said It was a problem with fedex and they would call me bavk but they never did! The next day i called fedex and they said only a shipping label with shipping info was received, and no item was given to fedex to ship. I called HTP AGAIN and they said that i would receive a refund since they could not make a collar that was waterproof. HTP said I wouldn't receive a refund. They could only send me my original collars.
The primary basis of my claim is false advertising. HTP claims that the collar is fully waterproof; however, as repeatedly admitted by customer service, HTP collars are not!! I would not purchase any product from high tech pets!!!

I purchased the Power Pet Medium door a few years ago and it worked great for over 3 yrs. I contacted the company and customer service was very nice and helpful. They sent me a replacement door with a label to return my old door back. I have been so pleased with the product and the company that I purchased my second door for my garage. I couldn't be more satisfied with the new door and fast shipping. The door works amazing. The company made some improvements to the new model and added new features. My dog is in love with her door. I have recommended this company to family and friends and they are fully satisfied with the company. This is a genuinely great company that takes cares of their customers and pets.

I recently bought an electronic dog door and an x-10 pet fence. They both work from the same radio collar and I love these products. I looked all over for the door and the fence, and just happened upon a review of High Tech Pet and noticed that their electronic pet items all worked from one collar. I bought the 2 items and they're working great so far. My dog comes in and out as she pleases and I bought a collar for my cat too and he looks so cute with it on. At first, when he walked up to the door and it whizzed up with a little whirring sound, he jumped straight up and ran away. So I didn't think it was going to work for him cause he was totally freaked out. Then he kept watching the dog come in and out and finally he used it, and now he acts just like it's his personal door. So I'm very happy with the 2 items I bought.

I purchased Humane Contain system in Oct of 2004. Within a week, during the training period, the collar stopped functioning. I bought some new batteries and it had no effect. I sent the collar back and paid extra money to get expedited service to get a collar back to finish training my dog. The new collar worked for a couple months, and then stopped. I sent the collar back and paid extra to upgrade to the rechargeable one, thinking that the model that I had previously had some technical flaw. Well it is just over a year now, and the rechargeable collar no longer works. I called the returns dept (Marcella) as I did in the past, but now she does not answer my calls, and does not email me (as she did in the past). I guess they are told not to bother with customers that are no longer in warranty.

In summary, they have a good idea, they have good prices, and they replace their products quickly and no questions asked. HOWEVER, their product is of poor quality and does not last.

I am now going with a professional solution ($500) for a new base and collar with a LIFETIME guarantee. I wish I had seen reviews like this before I bought from High Tech Pet and not wasted money and time.

I was very happy with the Terminator 2 bark collars that I bought. They have a one year warranty. After a month of use I sent them back for repair. High Tech sent me two new collars! My new collars have worked properly ever since. These collars are $100.00 a piece. I was impressed with High Tech's customer service and making sure I was a happy customer. Thank You High Tech.

I must say I was a little worried about ordering my Power pet door after reading some of the negative reviews, but after corresponding via email with Maria she set my mind at ease and was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Shipping was faster then expected and while I haven't had a chance to have the unit installed I'm sure I will love it and I know if any problems arise Maria will be able to help.

Purchased item on March 27th. On April 7th I had not received the item so I checked for tracking information on their website. The tracking info was blank so I sent an email request asking for tracking numbers and carrier. I received an email response on 4/9 stating that the merchandise would be shipped "early the following week" and to please be patient. TWO WEEKS after purchase they still had not bothered to ship my item? Order was canceled and request for refund sent. I'll purchase a similar item locally thank you. Do NOT recommend this company due to slow shipping.

In January of 2004, I ordered one of High Tech’s Pet Doors. After it arrived, I removed the old pet door and re-engineered the custom made hole in the exterior wall of my home and installed the new door. Initially it worked great, but then I started having problems with my dogs’ electronic collars. We complained and received replacements. Then in August the cable that operates the door broke. I returned the door (at my expense), as instructed, and was told by their represetative to expect the replacement door in about 6 weeks. This was allegedly due to the doors being on back order, which confused me since according to their website they, “don’t have a middle man”, but I waited.

Six weeks later, I wrote to check on my replacement door and was put off again. This went on…and on….and on, until the beginning of January 2005, when they stopped responding. Now I have someone new ignoring me and it seems obvious that I have wasted my money, as I now see so many others have.

High Tech Pet make the following claims on THEIR WEBSITE:

THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE POLICY: NEVER A MIDDLE MAN BETWEEN YOU AND GREAT SERVICE! This website is the ONLY Direct Factory Outlet for High Tech Pet Products, Inc. When you purchase a product from this site you get service direct from the manufacturer. We service the warranty directly and give you technical assistance direct from our factory technicians. There is NEVER a dot com middleman between you and the best direct customer service in the business!

Yet their constant claim is that they are waiting on a backordered shipment of doors!

MOST ORDERS RECEIVED BEFORE 3PM EST ARE SHIPPED SAME BUSINESS DAY.

Yet they have had my broken door for 5 months!

Not only am I apparently out the money I spent on the door. I have also wasted the money I spent sending the door back and the lack of the pet door (which I admit my spoiled dogs were very accustomed to) has lead to numerous unfortunate episodes on my carpets.

High Tech Pet is the WORST company that I have EVER dealt with, either in person or over the net.

Don’t spend your money with them.
