I was fooled by their name I guess, and their sub-titles blurbs telling me I can get what I want from their list of "categories," but everything I was interested in had almost nothing behind it, no matter what I clicked. There's a jewelry making category, but I can't figure why. I clicked "wire" and they have three..Three! All steel. That's it! No brass, no copper...they don't even sell precious metals in any form. I clicked tools and they have ONE - a plain ordinary electrician's soldering iron. That's it! And that's $72!..double what those are anywhere. So that they've got jewelry supplies is a joke. In fact they don't sell Anything I was looking for regardless of their come-on blurbs, and they're lucky I don't give them a Two star rating. Thanks but No thanks online metals.

This is my go-to source for bronze and aluminum metals for my home based crafts... but if you're looking for that particular alloy of stainless steel, they have it here, too! Great selection of sheet/plates of all metals as well as tubing and piping, solid rods and fittings. If you don't have a metals source nearby your home, buy it online - fast delivery comes standard!

I have bought several times from onlinemetals.com over the years. I though the shipping was quite expensive, but I just assumed it was because these were pieces 6 and 7 feet long. Other than that, I was satisfied. I recently wanted to get several small pieces of several different types of brass, bronze, steel, and stainless steel, from their "random 10-12" size selection. In other words, end pieces. The entire order would have fit in a USPS large flat rate box. This shipping for the first piece, 1" bronze tube, was $23.85. This is for a hollow tube less than a foot long. Maybe that's a minimum shipping charge? Nope, the next piece I added to my cart, just one little 10-12" piece of 1/2" steel round bar, caused the shipping to jump to $38.60! Each subsequent item I put in the cart caused the shipping charge to jump up nearly as much as the piece of metal cost. This is all small stuff; diameters in the 1/2" to 3/4" range, all 10-12" long. After the shipping cost got up to about $45, the next piece I added caused the shipping to jump to $65! This is all for stuff that would fit into a flat rate box. Their web site says USPS shipping is available, but it wasn't an option at checkout. I called the company to ask about getting this order put into a flat rate box. Their "customer service" could not have been more disinterested in being helpful. The woman just kept repeating her mantra "we don't ship via USPS". Her demeanor throughout the conversation was "this is how it is and if you don't like it, we don't care". How hard is it to ship USPS? They provide the boxes for FREE, they will deliver empty boxes, and pick up filled boxes for shipping. I also was interested in purchasing one of their "value packs", which sound pretty good. They have 5, 10, and 20 pound "protoboxes" which contain a variety of sizes, shapes, and alloys. They offer these in each of several metals, including brass, steel, and stainless (separate protoboxes for each metal). I called the company again, to ask if they label what the materials are in each box. Again, total disinterest in being helpful and couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. I tried to explain that, without labels on a box of random pieces of different alloys for each metal, there's no way to be sure what alloy I would be trying to work with. All I cold get from this woman (not sure if it was the same one or not - certainly the same attitude) was "perhaps you can tell the alloy from looking at the piece." Their "About Us" page brags about their wonderful customer service and how customer service is the backbone of their business. All total BS. I wrote an email to their sales department about my dissatisfaction with being overcharged for shipping and with the indifferent attitudes I encountered. I got an auto-reply, claiming that they would be getting back to me very soon. Well, that was about a week and a half ago, and I haven't heard from them yet. I bought my metals from another supplier, and I won't be using onlinemetals.com again until they fix their bad customer service and stop gouging customers on the shipping.

We've been an onlinemetals customer for about 2 years now, have a net 30 account set-up with them as well.. When we've ordered from the company, I've always paid the bill the very same week we received the metal, so our account has always been in excellent standing. On Nov 15 I emailed my contact requesting an updated quote so I could order more stainless-steel bars, but the email was rejected because my contact no longer works for the company. So I then forwarded the email to their sales dept, and again, no response. Several days later I recv'd a "how'd we do" survey email, to which I replied and noted a horrible (1 star) rating as it was already 9 days since my initial quote request, yet I still had recv'd no quote from the company. So this morning I called and spoke with customer service, who assured me I'd be recv'ing a quote within a few mins. Here it is now 6 hrs later, 2 weeks after my initial contact, and still no quote. Clearly onlinemetals does not want our business. Look elsewhere for a metals supplier if you're using onlinemetals, something has happened at the company and the wheels have fallen-off because they're clearly struggling.

Of the two aluminum rods I ordered, one did not meet specifications (4" rod, 0.1875" thickness), being lopsided (0.1875" on one side, 0.125" on the other). Both had deep scratches from their cutting process that required tedious hours of sanding to remove. A previous order (#298811) too had problems with imprecise cuts. A 1/4" aluminum plate that was supposed to be cut to 1.3125" x 2" did not have straight cuts, instead looking like a trapezoid, and it even had beveled edges on two sides, something I did not ask for. I will take my future orders someplace else.

Ordered from them on 11/14 because they they claimed to ship same or next day. Six days later still showing processing. Emailed and got an automated response saying they respond with in 1 business day. 4 days later still no response. DO NOT believe them. They take forever and do not respond to you at all once they have your order and money.

I have only made one purchase from online metals - aluminum tubing and sheet - (about $800 total including shipping made in mid-January 2018). Before-the-sale technical questions about their products were answered promptly and satisfactorily.

Shipments were staggered, but everything shipped within about a week. The materials I got seem OK - they provided a spec. sheet from the manufacturer which is good. One box was damaged during shipment. I notified online metals of the damage who arranged for return shipment. So far so good. Two weeks went by - no credit for the returned shipment (~$300 of metal plus shipping). I emailed online metals - days went by - no reply. I emailed again - no reply. A few days later I received credit for the metal, but not for the shipping. I have written since requesting help, but get none. (I got a brief reply that they were looking into it on March 7, but no further replies.) Today is March 17, and I think I have given them enough time to get this figured out.

So, I got stiffed for shipping charges, but I feel lucky I didn't lose more than I did on my first order. I have very low confidence in onlinesmetals.com. Based upon only one experience, their main problems seem to be poor performance in sales/customer service and accounting, and those problems are severe enough to keep me from ordering again or recommending onlinemetals.com to others.

Purchased 3 6061 aluminum panels to mod some PC cases. Had them custom-cut to spec. Panels were delivered as specified. The cuts were exact and straight. Shipped via UPS 3-day. Received on schedule. The site kept order and ship-tracking information current. I plan to purchase additional material from them for future case mods.

Our company has used Online Metals for several years now. Everyone on the phone has been very helpful. They went through a rough patch but have gotten back to their usual good service. I have called to aske questions about material specs and they always take the time to help me. When we need an order in a hurry they do their best to accomodate our request.

I've been using online metals now for a couple of months and I love them. They have a good selection of metal products, can handle custom cuts, and the shipping has been very fast and well packaged. I will be buying from them again.

Ordered 2 pieces of 3” round steel cut in one inch thick pieces. Received 1 1/8” pieces instead. Called and was told that is in 1/8” tolerance and they can’t do any better. Now I’m stuck with $40 worth of steel I can’t use.
