I have been a full vehicle insurance member for around 4 years. This year I made my first claim. Someone (Unknown) backed into my vehicle while I was shopping. So I had to pay the first $600 excess..My issue here is not the cost of the claim, but the sarcastic response from the underwriter when I canceled my policy because they increased my policy payments because of an incident that now destroyed my no claim bonus. Shannons need to re train their staff on dealing with clients who are their breadwinners at the end of the day. Im happy to put up the email I received from this ........ Lets give him a Nick name

They flew an assessor up from down south to Brisbane to assess the bike and took a couple off weeks to come back with the result and did not take into account the damaged apparel and had to wait for that department to access the gear. Not very professional, Must be better Insurance company's around.
friendly when signing up.
Taking a long time to process a claim, tried to talk me into canceling claim before giving me the full price all up with clothing and bike repairs.

Our fridge stopped working after 10 years of solid service and Shannon's came to our rescue with a part replacement thanks to our fusion motor coverage. Shannon's cover motor burnout regardless of age which is very impressive.

Shannon's call centre staff were great, they seemed to be from an onshore call centre and were very understanding of our needs.

Here is where the process could be improved - in order to get an assessment of our broken fridge we needed to be contacted by a company in Sydney (within 2 business days), once they are in touch they get a local company to come and assess the motor ( 2 more business days), the local company then writes up a report (2 more business days) this is then passed to the company in Sydney who review the report and write another report for Shannons (4 business days) this report is then passed to Shannons who agree to help with a replacement by sending a request to Harvey Norman (2 business days) who then call a local branch and agree delivery of the product (2 more business days). I think you can see the issue here - it's a perfectly fine process but once you add up all of the business day Service Level Agreements you end up with about 3 weeks worth of time, at best, from calling Shannons to receiving a replacement fridge. I imagine that this process could be streamlined.

Other than that I can't speak highly enough about them - they were able to source a replacement fridge at an excellent price that we put the claim money against and we couldn't be happier with our new fridge.

Unlike another insurer who I had an agreed value should I loose my 1967 MGB but who automatically decreased it at every renewal, Shannon's have not only maintained but automatically indexed up the agreed value by what appears to be CPI (I never was good at math). When I first inquired they were brilliant, asked what I would say were reasonable questions about how secure the vehicle is, what if any systems to deter theft and where it is housed (after all you could pick the ignition of those old cars with a booby pin, which I have) and after learning the various variations I have made to make it almost impossible to hot wire, their premium for a higher value plus cover for my spare parts and tools was most reasonable. Admittedly the proof is the claim process which I have not had to utilise, but when I have with other companies when my boat was stolen, that insurers utilise private detectives to ensure it is not a false claim is not only reasonable, in the long run it reduces premiums, and having one gentleman investigate my then claim with another company was most courteous and professional, sadly there are scammers out there, a fact that we should all appreciate is why insurance companies like Shannon's do their best to protect genuine insurers with lower premiums by investigating claims. It is reasonable I just wished they insured boats as well

I asked for a quote for buying a modified car and because I didn't go to car shows and have a suped up modified car already, I wasn't an acceptable person who fit their model to get a quote from them. Couldn't believe they refused to give me a quote! What company refuses business just because I don't have the car they think I should have now? Still shaking my head in wonder of the rudeness and dismissal I was given.

My 86 year old father has been with Shannons for over 25 years, he made his first claim 2 weeks ago, the customer services is appalling, I had to constantly call them to get an assessor out to look at the damage he told us he would be out between 12 and 2pm well at 4.45pm he turned up gave us his brochure and told us someone will be out to fix the damage, its been over a week and no one has made contact let alone come out to fix the damage. Every time I call I get transferred to a different department waiting for up to 20min on the phone. I would never recommend this company.

I could not fault Shannon's. Unbelievable customer service. Supported me all these years and paid out insurance claim. Do yourself a favour and go with Shannon's. I can honestly say that from Debbie in Claims to Jason in assessment and to all the others I have spoken to over the phone in relation to my accident. I have nothing but the highest praise and respect for all of them. Shannon's dealt with my claim expediently and precise. Within 10 days of lodging claim, being assessed and having bike written off, Shannon's had paid out in full the agreed Market Value of my bike. This has always, I have found, to be the case with Shannon's. I won't be riding again most likely, but if the day does come around again, Shannon's will be the first people I call for Full comprehensive Insurance. No better way to go

Had a "Not at Fault" accident on my Hyosung GT650RL a couple of weeks ago. Paid the excess immediately as the driver at fault did not stop & no details recorded. Did not receive a single follow up call from Shannons at all in two weeks to keep me apprised of the situation. I have had to do all the follow ups! When the tow driver picked up my bike, he started it and it sounded very sick (I had not been game to start it after the accident as fuel was leaking). Quote from repairers came in at $4,070.54 according to Shannons. Agreed Value of the bike was set at $6,100. They didn't even follow up on the quote from the repairers until I made a complaint after two weeks of not hearing anything.

Received news today from Suncorp Assessor that he has decided to repair the bike stating "there was no structural damage" and "call the repairer for any more info". I am amazed they have chosen to repair the bike given how sick it sounded. Repairer says ETA is anywhere from 28 days to 10 weeks! I was stupefied that the assessor decided in his infinite wisdom not to write my bike off. He didn't even do an inspection of the bike, his decision was based purely on pictures taken by repairer, the repair quote & $$ value!

I will be taking the bike to a proper qualified bike mechanic after it is returned to me to get a proper check done to ensure there is no internal or structural damage that the repairer or Shannons is hiding. If anything like this is found, I will be asking why the bike was classified as "To be repaired", rather than a "repairable write off". May have to seek legal advice depending on outcome.

My advice to any prospective motorcycle insurance purchasers is to avoid Shannons at all costs. Customer Service is almost non-existent. They are quick to take your money and promise the earth but fail to deliver! I guess you don't know how bad an insurance company is until you have a claim with them.

Suffice to say, I will not be renewing with Shannons when my renewal is due and will avoid Suncorp companies at all costs as well.

Just tried to insure my new Moto Guzzi with Shannon's, the same company that I have my classic cars with, and the quote came back at $900+ on bike value of $20,000. Compared with Swann at $336 for the exact same policy!

I'm 50yo, max no claim bonus, no accident history, bike stays in locked garage. So apparently Shannon's believe their policy is worth 3 times as much???

If you're looking for bike insurance, look elsewhere.

We have been with shannons for over 15 years. Recently I made my first insurance claim ever. Shannon's were brilliant, they didn't need lots of paper work or ask lots of questions. They suggested a repairer close by, but said I could get a quote from our regular repairer if I wanted. The claim was very easy and fast and the time for the work to be arranged and completed was amazing! They suggested I use windscreens Obrien but also said I could use another windscreen provider if I chose. It took less than 3 weeks from my first phone call to shannons to having my car returned repaired.

I submitted a claim for minor damage (scrape to the front bar and left rear quarter panel) on an immaculate late model Lexus IS350 F Sport. I wanted to choose my repairer but the Shannons rep told me that if I didn't go with SmartRepair (owned by Suncorp who also owns Shannons) my lifetime repair warranty would be negated. This turned out to be misleading but I very reluctantly agreed because I was led to believe I essentially had no choice. SmartRepair inspected the car and told me they'd only paint the damaged half of my front bar, and patch repair the rear, and wouldn't take responsibility for how it looked. I spoke to Shannons and the Manager of SmartRepair and said it would look ridiculous to have a half painted front bar, which led to excessive hours on the phone but both finally agreed to repair the damage correctly by blending the repair with existing paintwork. So at this stage hours of work and frustration just to get a reasonable baseline repair. SmartRepair botched it - massive orange peel effect and dirt in the paint, marking tape and buffing compound all over, badges in the wrong place etc. Thankfully the Suncorp assessor, the only cogent person I spoke to in this process apart from the second repairer, agreed it should be redone. Throughout this several weeks long process the people I spoke to at Shannons were despairingly hopeless. Lots of oohs and ahhs about how sorry they were etc but zero actual difference made. No response to the lodgement of a formal complaint, getting told one thing by the assessor and another by the phone robots...'the policy says... the policy says' is the only thing they seem to be able to parrot even though the situation wasn't appropriate to a cookie cutter approach. And then they slipped a doubling (!) of the excess on that car into my renewal despite having only 4 minor claims across several vehicles I've had insured with them for 15 years. I live in a rural area and if I hit an animal on the road it's on me ie I have to pay the $1300 excess. Driving the car is like having a loaded gun at my head. So Shannons misleads me about choice of repairer, pays for a botched job with a hopeless repairer, has to pay again to get it rectified, and then hits ME with a double excess. I asked them to reconsider, offered to pay a higher premium but lol my no claim bonus is protected so the only way they can manage the risk is by upping the excess. Hmmm...what risk? None of the other cars I insure with them went up in excess or premium but I guess they have to claw back the money somehow.

Recently I submitted a claim for a Mustang windscreen, which has a large and obvious forward facing Ford logo at the top in front of the rear view mirror. I was sent to OBriens who told me that their screens don't have the logo. I asked Shannons to approve an oem screen due to the difference in appearance and...wait for it...they declined stating 'the policy only talks about functionality' about ten times. When I finally got it through to someone that the car would actually look visibly different with the OBriens screen, which is something that's important to an enthusiast, and maybe someone with discretionary power should be made aware of the situation they escalated to a manager after a 28 minute hold. The manager then went down the '....policy only says functionality must be the same...' path a few times before I had to point out that I already know what it says but the people writing the policy probably didn't conceive of a situation such as this as screens aren't usually an active part of the car's appearance. I asked if this means they could insist on the use of other non oem body parts that were functionally the same, but changed the appearance of the car, but predictably was met with silence and an offer to escalate it to a dispute. Goodness me folks, I don't want a dispute I want common sense. I know the outcome...'the policy says....'

The marketing of Shannons being tailored towards enthusiasts or largely different to any other insurer is misleading, and what people once appreciated is sadly long gone. Their only real point of difference is choice of repairer but GIO has this too. Essentially you're dealing with Suncorp and when you talk to a person who answers the phone 'Shannons' they also answer calls with 'Suncorp'. I suspect they'll keep taking the same money but increasing profit by providing rubbish service such as SmartRepair, and that the Shannons brand will disappear in the not too distant future.

HI
Got my renewal for my harley and my car both insured with agreed value to which i pay extra on my policy, anyway my agreed value has dropped $800.00 for my bike and car by $452.00 so that a loss of value of $1282.00 including my renewal which went up by $30.00 oh and no claims during this period.

Look at the fine print i was told they have the right to change prices according to market value, so why did i pay extra for agreed value, its all crap they are no better that all the rest,

Will be looking around for someone who doesn't lie, so over this company

After having a minor accident & having nothing but problems with Shannon’s bullying & condescending assessor & crap internal complaints process at Shannon’s/AAI...I suggest that you lodge an internal complaint, however also lodge a complaint with AFCA as they at least try to help & the more people that lodge complaints about this insurer the more hope that all of us have of getting a fair outcome in the long run. The AFCA Complaints process is fairly simple & until the government has records of these unscrupulous insurers nothing will ever change.

If you do here’s what’s likely to happen…

You have a tree take out stairs to your house, eventually after about 3 months of taking your life in your hands to get to your door they will FINALLY send someone to fix it.
The crappy workmen they send will do a terrible job and use old broken materials even tho they claim its all new for old. They will leave untreated arsenic wood for a bannister against Australian recommendations and despite the fact that there is a 3-year-old using the premises and the increased risk to young children.
They will also fail to do several of the repairs despite been told saying they don’t need to. The work men will fail to repair things they broke during the fixing process and leave your bbq at a 45 degree angle with nothing holding it so it falls and breaks meaning it may not be safe to turn on. Nearly another 3 months will go by during which time they will not fix the problem and even paint the wood… a huge block of wood will nearly fall on your sons head nearly killing him.
When you go to there site and email them you will get a really unhelpful [word removed] that will tell you I don’t know “but my guess is”… rather then actually going and finding out…

There will be no concern due to negligence of their contractor, or them I can’t be sure, That your son nearly killed, that your stuff got broken or that your son is been exposed to unacceptable risk due for months on end.

Also when you ask who their regulator is they will not answer.

As I said do not buy insurance from Shannons ever!!!
They will put lives in danger with no concern what so ever.

Still waiting for thing to be fixed from storms in April.
