To Whom It May Concern:
At the end of August last year I purchased a motherboard combo from your company. The product was delivered as expected in early September.
Within 24 hours I noticed an issue with the combo. It would randomly restart itself. Based on your recommendations, I spent additional money on a new power supply. The computer continued to reboot itself. After spending a considerable amount of time on the phone with your technician, the decision was made to send it back to you for testing. Let me note that I originally paid for the combo to be tested before shipped.
Weeks later your technician called me back saying that the motherboard had passed his testing. He suggested it may be my case. I purchased one of yours and the product was shipped back to me at my cost. That is three times I have paid for shipping now as well as a new case.
Finally I received what is now a barebones kit. I then installed everything and within a day noticed the same issues of rebooting. Again additional time was spent with your technician to resolve this. He then confirmed the problem via the telephone and again I shipped your product back to you. Weeks later a confirmation came that the processor had issues. Let me reiterate that I originally paid for testing. Also I have again paid for shipping.
A swap was then made by your company and a new combo was sent to me. I noticed a note in the box informing me that you needed the manual and disk that came with the original combo, something I had failed to include. Your note said that if I sent these back you would pay for this most recent shipping. You are so generous.
Now two weeks later, this new combo has died. Saturday morning I found that my computer will not progress through the initial BIOS posts and load XP, another hardware failure. Let me comment that I am a senior-level programmer with over a decade of experience. Yes, it is hardware failure.
This is unacceptable. I am returning your product and demanding my money back for the combo; however I will keep your case, as it was a separate order. Also I would like to keep the initial memory that I purchased.
I feel your business practices are irresponsible and unprofessional. I am posting this letter to the www.pricewatch.com review section to warn others about how you have treated me as a customer. I am also considering submitting a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau.
Call me with a confirmation when my credit card has been credited. I am shipping the combo to you tomorrow, Tuesday Jan 3rd, 2005.
As for functionality, the product worked just as expected, and was exactly what I ordered. Everything was assembled correctly. I never had to call customer service. My advice to those of you who order assembled systems from this site: Always pay the extra $14 to get it tested! I cannot stress this enough. If something isn't going to work, they'll mess with it until it's working, and break it in for a day. If you don't do this, you could be dealing with sending things back later.
Hey, everything has a defect rate. So far, I've had no problems with this site. Good prices, good options, free shipping. I have no complaints.
At the site, I paid for the item before being given shipping information. This would normally be a deal-breaker for me (but I already knew the shipping cost from Google).
In the end, the shipping was reasonable and accurate to what I had expected.
I shipped the drive back the next day. It was received by SMK on the 22nd of January. I was never sent an email or notification that it was being processed.
I was never refunded for the return, and had to call in three weeks later on February 11th. After calling they acknowledged the return was received, and processed the return. However, I was only partially refunded.
I lost shipping, paid for extra shipping for the return, and paid 15% for restocking a broken part.
End result: I paid $27.24 to a bad company for nothing.
Edit:
8 days since they have had my second RMA'd CPU in their posession and no e-mail response or refund. Just so everone knows, found on the Better Business website many company's that all have the SAME mailing address and are all the same scam outfit.

Edit: 10/28/04
Final entry (promise) Recieved my refund for full price and 8 of the 13 I spent on return shipping, no 15% restocking fee. This was after many somewhat snide comments in my MANY e-mails but at least I have a resolution (45 days later)and know which company's never to order from.
OK I'm breaking my promise sice I've read their response, sorry but...
Both CPU's were sent out to me chipped, I'm a pro and wouldn't ever bother installing a chipped chip lol. I sent both back in their unopened heat sealed grey poly bags.
Liars as well it seems.
Then the mobo combo included the wrong cooling fan! If I wanted to get the wrong parts in my order I'd order the parts separately -- the point of ordering a combo is that all the parts are supposed to work TOGETHER.
I dont recommend ordering from SMK.
All in all I was able to get my processor for $112.49 in a week and in reasonably good condition. I would have liked to have had my order ship in a box via USPS Priority, but one simply can not beat their prices.
As an update - the parts arrived and the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor I ordered had several pins bent and would not fit into the ZIF socket. I took a chance and bent them myself and it works like a charm. Very fast processor, though a bit hot - like most AMD chips... so get a good heatsink and use a proper amount of thermal grease. The store remains the same as before.
