After following a recommendation by Choice, we booked travel insurance with 1Cover back on October 4, to cover our long-planned for 7-week trip to Europe and Vietnam beginning April 14, now cancelled of course. They have not responded to my emails - different story taking my money. Other companies are stepping up in these desperate times. The Insurance Australia Group "will refund travel insurance premiums for holidays that have been cancelled or cut short" as a result of the corona-virus pandemic (includes NRMA, CGU and SGIO). Other big insurers, including Suncorp, QBE and Allianz, are working on support measures for customers as well, and customers who have not gone on their trip "will get a full refunds of premiums". We are pensioners up against a Lloyds-backed company, who are profiteering from this health crisis - one example of a company seemingly feeding off the world's misery.

To be fair I have come back to change my rating from 1 to three. Finally after months of writing to 1cover, [name removed] (their underwriter), and consumer affairs the lovely lady on the phone [name removed] told me the money is coming back to my account. Other companies took three days (AIRbnb, klook) and they take three months. The worst thing in this saga was that they said jobs had been lost. So they keep the money and then lay people off. Well it seems they now want back into the industry? Why take so long? Just return the money - a few clerks could do it in a few days? Or even automate it after a certain date? I certainly hope all get their money back now. Not just those that press for it. I thank 1cover for finally seeing the light. If you are in the insurance industry just be ready to get back to people much faster than this. Even higher premiums to make sure this never happens again. I would rather pay $20 more on the premium and have an answered phone call than go through all this fighting. WHEN WILL AUSTRALIA REALIZE ABOUT REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE?

Bought travel insurance months ago for our USA trip in April which the tour company cancelled. I need help/advice but “1cover” wont answer the phone or call back and wont answer emails.

Took out a policy for UK and Europe in December , of course they have a pandemic disclaimer and many thousands out of pocket, the thieves will not refund my premium, i cannot fly, i cannot travel to the countries i was going to due to govt travel restrictions yet these thieves won't refund my premium, they are insuring you for nothing if you can't travel, i was urged by email to make a claim despite having no chance of any refund due to the pandemic so they could swallow my premium. The decent thing to do would be to refund people's premium as they have no risk if you can't travel but of course these grubs won't hear of that.

After complaining to Dept of Fair Trading, 1Cover has now offered a rebate of my premium of around 90% which i am going to take to get it over with, i urge anyone to not claim on your policy as it would activate it and this would give you no chance of a refund of your premium but to complain to fair trading to try and salvage something and just never use them again.

We used 1Cover in 2018 for a Europe Vacation found that they were more than helpful to assist us with our travel insurance due to the fact that my husband has a underlying blood cancer condition.
Fast forward, we had planned another trip this June 2020 and took out another policy with them on the 18/09/19 as they were already fully aware of my husband’s condition and no Pandemic was evident, and now in trying to contact them has been fruitless, just when you need to speak to a person no one is available and a generated email is forwarded, they have offered in this generated email a credit for the next 18 months but we do not know if we will be in a position to travel as we do not know what our health will be as we are both mid 60s (and what dose an 18 month credit really mean when we only travel in the European summer) it dose quote in their PDS section 14 that a full refund will be available if you cancel your policy 14 days prior to your first date of travel and they are not honouring this, one way traffic on there behalf.
We are already out of pocket as we have paid in full for internal air fares in Europe as well and car hires that we will probably not gat back, all we are asking for is a full refund on our policy.

I actually got on this site to see if anyone else was posting about their experience with 1Cover in light of the COVID pandemic. This crisis has certainly highlighted the uselessness of travel insurance, it's only when you go to claim that you realise the value of the policy-worthless!
Like other reviews, all I am asking for is the common decency to respond to my email and possibly offer a credit or refund of the policy. They have already made it clear that there is no paying out on out of pocket expenses. They were very quick to send an email to say what they weren't covering (everything) but silent when several emails are sent to them to request a response. So many businesses are not surviving through no fault of their own, 1Cover are doing nothing to retain business by providing basic customer service!

Our flight was cancelled due to mechanical issues so we lost one nights accomodation in for next day in the usa and they said not covered by policy bought the policy after great reviews what a waste of money

Booked in November for March travel pre-pandemic. Does not cover for pandemics. At all. Not just cancelling bookings but won’t cover you if you get sick. Even if you booked before it became a known event. Pointless policy. A number of other insurers are reasonable enough to provide cover if purchased prior to the event, despite what the 1cover rep will respond here. Will never use again and be sure to tell anyone who’ll listen about this poor customer care.

I bought Travel Insurance for my In laws who were traveling to Greece with us in July & because of their Medical History they paid a high premium in excess of $3500. I requested a refund due to the COVID-19 & the fact they are pensioners 76 years old & every dollar was very important to them after having to contact them via email twice they finally answered me & offered only a credit only. This is unacceptable & I will never use this company again. No compassion or empathy.

I have used 1 Cover on numerous occasions and only claimed once and on that occasion they were prompt with reimbursement.

On this occasion I took out a comprehensive policy a year ago for a holiday this month....covid19....no holiday... called and called to request a refund and also emailed and emailed.

I called and emailed on 7th then 14th then 20th Apr.

to date 19/05/2020 I have had no response (except automated) from 1 cover,,,,, are they still in business?

This is extremely poor service I mean not even a call in over 2 months, how do you justify that?

I have been trying to contact 1 Cover regarding the cancellation of our tour. Phone calls go unanswered and you get the same automated response to e-mails. If this what they call customer service then all I can say is DO NOT use 1 Cover.

My policy was taken out at the start of December 2019 for a family holiday to Europe for June 2020. Like everyone else I had to cancel my trip and had no service whats so ever from 1Cover, they wouldn't answer calls or return my website inquiries.

I then lodged a complaint to [email protected] expressing my disappointment and demanded a full refund. It took 15 working days to get a response which is their normal review timeframe. Based on my individual circumstances I got a full refund back into my credit card.

Their updated response 16/04/20
1Cover is offering customers whose trips have been affected by COVID-19 credit notes (in line with many airlines and other travel providers) that can be used for trips well into 2022, refund requests are being assessed on a case-by-case basis considering the policy wording and the customer’s personal circumstances.

1Cover could have avoided all the negative publicity by keeping its customers informed with the above statement.

I have used 1 Cover on many occasions over the past few years. It has always been very easy to arrange, on line. I have always believed the travel cover was good value for money for my needs. My most recent trip away resulted in me making my first ever Claim on 1 Cover re the excess associated with a minor rental car accident. 1 Cover handled the Claim process most courteously and expeditiously, and left me very pleased with their service. Communication by the Claims Officer was exemplary. 1 Cover is a most professional organisation in my view, with excellent processes.

Purchased comprehensive travel insuranve the day we purchased flights to America in July 2019. Discover in the fine print so many exclusions. This cover is almost valueless and I will be contacting AFCA. Have to cancel trip and chase refunds from airlines and accommodation and not refunded travel insurance cost either. DO NOT USE!!!!

I contacted 1 Cover on 19 March.
I was within the 14 day cancellation period and needed to cancel my travel insurance.
I received an email immediately stating they would be in touch soon to assist. That was 19 days ago and I am still waiting for some sort of contact. Ref: 539477.
I have used 1 Cover before when travelling and have been very happy with them.

I became unwell and was not able to travel ,This was before the Covid Virus and I still have not heard from anyone about my claim

I’ve used 1cover at least 14 times over the last 10 years I know everyone is very busy due the covid19 virus the airline canceled our flights and gave us a credit note,Airbnb contacted us and refunded our money for accommodation in full no worries couldn’t have been more helpful,1cover couldn’t even be bothered to respond to my countless emails I sent to them we would have gladly expected a credit for our travel insurance but no answer to emails or phone calls . Customers will remember how 1cover treated it’s clients when this crisis is over I will never use 1cover again, advise anyone to be very weary of this company

We always use 1Cover for travel insurance, but this was the first time we claimed. The process went smoothly and we received a refund for our cancelled trip. I am telling everyone that 1Cover is an insurance company that can be trusted. We received very good service. You never know the value of an insurance company until you need to claim, and now we know! Thank you, 1Cover.
