Know this: if anything goes wrong with your order, no matter how obvious the mistake or common sense the solution, Book Depository will not help you or provide a solution. Their "customer service" staff, as is clear by almost all of the 1-star reviews, do absolutely nothing to help customers or provide service. A friend bought me a book online for Christmas from Book Depository. They sent me the German language edition, not the English language edition he'd ordered. He no longer has the order number and neither do I. What I sent, at the request of the "customer service" desk, was the ISBN number, the shipping address, the name and email address of the purchaser. Amazon and Barnes & Noble, with the information I sent, would have replaced the book sent in error. Not Book Depository. I would strongly recommend using reliable and responsible book sellers, which Book Depository is absolutely not. This has been, by far, the worst online retail experience I've ever had.

Terrible. Ordered Dr Seuss box set for my grand-daughter on 09 December. After many emails back and forth ... On 30 December they tell me they can't fulfil my order and Give me a refund. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals

Worst experience ever. Buyer beware!!! I ordered a audio and book, book never arrived, I complained and they were incredibly rude and blame me for their mistake. They told me they would ship another order but I explained it was a Christmas present as it was now Jan so there was no need but they advised they had already sent. The second order surprisingly, never arrived. Absolutely awful service and I never got what I paid for.

Our daughters purchased four books for Father’s Day. Two arrived just before the day. One on Monday and still awaiting last one. My problem is that the third book is not what was ordered. They ordered “A History of Ireland “ by Richard Killeen in English. We received “Une Breve Histoire De L’Irelande” by Richard Killeen in French!! Horribly disappointed. What recourse do we have?

Received a book with a different cover to what was advertised. This was very disappointing as I had specifically bought that book rather than a cheaper version in order to get a nicer cover. Contacted customer service but they asked me to pay for return postage. I complained but the company did not want to take any responsibility. I will not buy any books from this company again.

I have ordered a book and understand the delay in deliveries due to the pandemic but at least provide a tracking ID to know my order is sure on the way! Moreover, due to uncertainty, I requested to cancel the order and the team tells me that I cannot. They ask me to keep on checking with local post office if there is any order under my name! WOW! Please improve your system! If you cannot provide tracking number, how are even YOU sure that a customer's parcel is on the right track???? I am extremely upset. I will never order again from here and would definitely ask people to check out other reliable stores. Thank you!

Book depository is absolutely TERRIBLE! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!! I ORDERED A BOOK MARXH 20TH. THEY CLAIM IT WAS DELIVERED APRIL 7TH. PROVIDED NO TRACKING NUMBER AND I'VE CONTACTED THEM AND AMAZON NEARLY 10 TIMES. BOOK DEPOSITORY HAS NEVER, EVER REPLIED AND IS REFUSING TO GIVE MY MONEY BACK!!!!! HAD TO REPURCHASE THE BOOK FROM AMAZON DIRECTLY AND NOW I AM OUT THE COST OF THE BOOK! THEY'RE WORTHLESS. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM BOOK DEPOSITORY EVER! SAVE YOURSELF MONEY AND TIME.

TERRIBLE They sendn using normal post so the order takes a very long time to arrive. No tracking service so it can get lost and they won't be responsible. After the long wait I received the book with a different cover that the one I ordered. I have complained and they asked me to return it but they are not covering the cost. REALLY BAD SERVICE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. I am now going to buy the book somewhere else and I have lost 10EUR for shipping the book to them. Also don't know when they will refund the amount paid for the book, it is ridiculous!

Probably some of the worst customer service possible. There default answer is just to refund your order without trying to send it back if they mistakenly sent it to the wrong destination. This was a problem for me since I live in a heavily taxed country with massive amounts of inflation. I simply needed to have them sent it back but they used the COVID as an excuse but would tell me they USED TO do this normally in the past (thanks for telling me this). If you live in a country that isn't the united states or Europe I don't recommend it.

I ordered a box set on May 24. It was shipped on May 29 and delivered on June 8 (from U.K. to Italy). There is no tracking service, and, compared to other online stores, shipping is perhaps slower (not so much in my case, but definitely slower than what they state on the item's page), but it's free and the box set arrived in perfect condition. The cardboard box contained a lot of bubble wrap to protect the package from bump-related damage. Be aware that packages are sent through local postal service (Royal Mail in the U.K. and then your Country's Postal Service) and not Couriers.

Book ordered for present - website stated it was in stock, payment taken book still hadn’t arrived over 3 weeks later, when I asked where it was they then said it wasn’t in stock and I eventually got a refund - very unhappy with service and communication

This company gives no information to customers about their orders, order status, shipment tracking, etc. My first order took 6 weeks to arrive, and I never received any information or tracking information. For my second order, I heard nothing from them for 3 weeks. Then they suddenly sent me an email saying my order had been cancelled! NOTHING MORE! No explanation whatsoever. If you go on their website to check your account, it's the same. NO INFORMATION about orders except that they took your money. I've never seen anything like this. It's very irresponsible for a business to do this. I will not be using Book Depository anymore.

I reached this company from the email of the order, from another email and from paypal. The team chooses to only reply on the unknown address, I provide all info, reach put multiple times a week later they tell me they were not able to stop a duplicate order that happened as a bug, slowest reaction team I have ever seen! To this day they still have not answered to the paypal claim. Never ordering there again and neither should you if you expect any level of service.

Bunch of as*holes! Bunch of as*holes! I ordered back in April and after 2 and a half months of waiting they decided to cancel my order even though I never asked for it. (the estimated delivery was supposed to happen 2 months ago) They said that they cant get the items, than I checked their site and ALL of my stuff were in stock ready to ship within 4 business days. The problem is that their prices became almost double. I wrote them 8 massages so far for compensation but they just sent back almost the same letter every time, they didn't really want to help. If you want good for yourself never order from them.

Two orders, two months apart, for 'in stock' items.

A week goes by then an important message from Amazon on both occasions, viz.

We're writing about the marketplace order you placed on 2016-10-23 with Book Depository. Unfortunately, Book Depository has not confirmed the dispatch of this order, and we are unable to provide you with dispatch details yet.

On enquiry, I'm informed that item is out of stock!

I have reported such practice to Amazon.

I only buy books from bookdepository because of their cheap prices compared to what I would have to pay in a regular bookstore in Portugal.

So far I bought a total of 6 and received 8 books.

First 2 (hardcover):
- one came in perfect condition
- the other one had some green paper thing on some of the pages, where I couldn't read the content.
I sent them an email with pictures and they said I would receive a new copy. I never did. I ended up just dropping the subject.

Next 2 (paperback):
- they were past they shipping period --> I sent them an email, and they shipped them again, this time I received them on time and in good condition.

Last 2 (hardcover)
- one came in perfect condition (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)
- and the other one (Illuminae) had some pages that were not printed, some were faded and some were all white.
First I thought it was because of the style of the book, but I did my research and it wasn't. Once more I sent them an email with pictures and they said they would sent me a replacement copy for Fantastic Beasts *sigh*.
I sent them ANOTHER email to tell them, that was not the book I wanted! Finally I received an email saying the Illuminae was on its way, and to keep the new Fantastic Beasts book.
HOWEVER I received those books, and then AGAIN the Fantastic Beasts was in great condition, BUT the Illuminae had its last 1/8 of the pages torn and bended.

I just don't understand. Do they do this on purpose? I know by looking at the books that the damaged wasn't inflicted during the trip. It seems like they knowingly put damaged books onto their packages and ship them.

But why though?

Now I've ordered 3 more paperbacks, and I just hope (I REALLY HOPE) they come in great condition. I don't know why I keep ordering from them, maybe the price, maybe I think the next order will be good, I just have too much faith on them.

I ordered books yesterday morning for a birthday present for my grandson in Australia. Unfortunately not being too compute literature I didn't enter the delivery address. I immediately recognized my mistake and emailed. Have now done so 4 times but have had no reply. They do say reply due within 24 hours so am bitterly disappointed. Books,will come to me in Scotland which are no good to me. Why can't they acknowledge my emails. Very frustrating not being able to speak to someone..Not good customer service at all

I ordered book from them and never arrived, they confirmed they delivered and dispatched using royal mail courier service but when i check from my local post office, there aren't any record found and I requested for a refund or second deliver no action from them at all. Bad experience! No next time!!
