Compubuzz.com Reviews & Complaints (30)

I purchased a barebones system from these scam artist, after finding them on pricewatch. They charged me to assemble and "TEST" the system (which I thought was a rip-off, but figured I wouldn't have to spend time troubleshooting) and when I received it, only the motherboard was plugged into the power supply. Obviously not tested, the OS wouldn't load. I switched out CD-ROM and tried different CDs with no luck. Finally, they agreed to refund my money, so I mailed it back to them. After 6 calls and 2 letters I have still not received ANY of my purchase cost back.

This is my second purchase from this company - the first one went so smooth - no hitches - that when it came down to needing another similar board, even though it was a bit cheaper, I bought from compubuzz because I knew they wouldn't cheat me.

I bought a motherboard and processor at this store because they had the best price for an SIS chipset motherboard with an Athlon XP processor.

I recently made 2 purchases through them, one via phone and one via the Internet. The website is very easy to navigate and gives plenty of options. The phone order representative was very helpful in explaining all of my shipping options and approximately how long it would take to arrive.

I orderd a Seagate 120GB HDD on the 14th (saturday) and contacted the sales dept. on Monday the 16th to confirm that my shipping address was acceptable. I was assured that it was and that the HDD would ship that day.

I selected FedEx 2 day because my other HDD is failing and needs to be replaced (which I noted in my order).

On Thursday the 19th I called to get a tracking number and got the recording that the store was closed though it was during their specified business hours. Friday there was no answer at all by phone or email. It's 10 days later with no word. I've already contacted my credit card company and am preparing to dispute the charge.

I've never had a problem with an on-line reseller before. I wish I had known about this site previously. I'll be checking it whenever I make an order in future.

6/26/03 I did manage to get a phone recording stating that they were changing their location and will be reopened 6/30. Still no reply to my emails, still haven't received the drive. Resellerratings needs stronger terms for sellers such as compubuzz.

Ordered an Athlon XP 2500+ on Oct 19. They charged my credit card immediately. Called today, they haven't shipped it out and complained of an address verification problem. This was never a problem before because I register all my shipping addresses with my credit card company. Anyway so I decided to cancel my order and they want to charge me 5% for picking their noses. I'll call my credit card company to see what they say about that. This is the last time I'll buy from an unknown vendor without checking an online ratings system.

Purchased Athlon XP 2600+ & PCChips M848ALU mobo combo, paid $7 for a rushed order. Still took two days to process. Product arrives; and I install the parts with other working parts I have. Discover the CPU is bad after thoroughly testing. I contact for an RMA; first response is ignored and they ask me what the problem is. I then tell them I need an RMA; takes them 4 business days (including 2 days over the weekend) to respond - after calling them, which went nowhere.

The RMA is finally issued; but they put all kinds of stipulations and you must sign an agreement before sending back. Among the stipulations - they charge you a $35 fee if "item is found NOT defective" by their standards (gives them any reason to send back, even if product is really defective). They claim if the processor has the appearance of change - such as if you put heat compound or something of that nature on it - you cannot return product. Then there was another peculiar stipulation - if they don't find your packaging in which you returned the product in to be of their liking (and this is no joke), then they charge your credit card $35 for a service fee plus shipping charges to send it back. AND I KID YOU NOT THAT IS WHAT MY PARTICULAR RMA SAID.

Basically this company is a fraudulent trap. They resell bad products and shuffle them among customers if the product ends up back in their system. If you order from them you are playing russian roulette - you either get a working product for a low price or you get a defective product with an RMA policy that allows them to ignore your request at their liking and even ADD CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD on top of the original order.

If this company does not refund me by the time my credit card statement comes in; I'm filing a fraudulent charge claim, contacting the Better Business Bureau, as well as writing the local authorities in the Chicago area to take care of this scum of a company.

BEWARE - this is a fradulently operating company.

In october 28, 2003 I placed an order with Compubuzz.com for a motherboard / CPU combo. The motherboard is an ECS Elitegroup K7VTA3 V.2 and the CPU an AMD Athlon XP 1800+. The next morning a Compubuzz rep. called me to inform me that they where out of 1800+ procesors and that it could be a month before I could get one delivered. He also stated that I could order another procesor and that they would just charge the diference to the credit card. I agreed on a AMD Athlon XP 2100+, and they said that it would be $14.95 more, I said fine. When the package arrived the invoice showed the correct info, the motherboard and the 1800 combo, plus a $14.95 charge for the upgrade to the 2100+ procesor. When I try to install the motherboard and procesor, the system would lock up and I could't install WinXP. After replacing everything on the board and still no progress I contactem them and the manufacturer of the motherboard, and all I could get from Compubuzz was an offer for me to send the parts back to them under their RMA Details, that reads: "If item not found defective, we will charge a $35.00 service fee pluss the return shipping charges on your credit card and return the item back to you." All I wanted was some tech suport. But It looks like they have none, so they told me to go to the manufacturer of the motherboard, so I did and they told me to do the same things I had already done and "if that didn't help, to go to the vendor and maybe they could help". Anyway after removing the procesor to send it back I tried the motherboard with another procesor and it worked fine, so I tried the 2100+ with another motherboard and it worked fine, I then realized that the procesor was not an Athlon XP 2100+ but a 1500+ !!! That's why it wouldn't work on the motherboard, because the motherboard was set to a 133mhz bus speed for a 2100+, but the 1500+ uses a 100mhz bus speed, and thats why it wouldn't work. So the motherboard works, the procesor works, it is compubuzz that doesn't work! They sold me and chrged me for a Athlon XP 2100+ but shipped me a 1500+, what a rip off! Tonight it is saturday so I probably won't be able to reach them until monday, but the problem is they are either goin to offer me a refund of the diference of the 2 procesors, or ask me to send the part/s back. I don't want a refund of the diference because it is not worth it, I wanted a 2100+ not a 1500+. I also need the system running, I already lost too much work, trying to figure this mess up, witch end up being their mess up, and I can't wait another 2 weeks for the 1500+ to get there and then to wait for the replacement to get here... I want them to send me the right procesor and then I will send them the 1500+ back, I need my workstation up and running. When I talk to them on monday, I'll update the situation. They still have a chance of rectifying their error, 'cause I hope it was an error! Just to think that after "test driving" this motherboard / CPU combo I was goin to buy 50 more. Do you think I would had recived 50 1500+'s? I hope not.

My background: Computer VAR, Systems Engineer, 25 years direct PC exp.

Ordered a high-end MB/AMD64/Memory combo on 04/13/04. They called immediately to upsell the cpu/fan combo, which I felt was worth the extra price, so agreed to the additional cost. Received quick email order confirmation and detail of items ordered.

Also paid PREMIUM for RUSH ORDER
Also paid PREMIUM for PRE-TEST (MB/CPU/MEM)

On 04/16/04, they charged my Credit Card.
I went online to check order status; it still said "processing".

On 04/19/04, went online to check again. Same thing. Went to main web site to check "My Account", got a strange message about "If you orderd before 04/19/04, click a link. It was a dead-end, took me right back to the "If you ordered..." message.

On 04/20/04, called 800 number. The lady that answered said "Your order was shipped on 04/19/04". I asked for the shipping info. First response was "Our computers are down, and I can't get through to UPS". I said to check with shipping dept, they would have a hard-copy. She said "Our shipping dept does not come in until noon, (CST)". Asked her to call me back. She promised to do so THAT DAY.

04/21/04. Checked website again. Now my "tracking link" does not work at all, the screen says "If the original account was created before 04/20/04, I would have to create a new one." I did, using previous info. When I put in my ORDER NO. to TRACK the shipment, it forwards me to UPS, and hands them my ORDER NO, not SHIPPINIG NO., so the UPS tracking page does not know how to handle that number.

Conclusions on this reseller so far:

1. Unprofessional customer service.
2. Unprofessional online account handling.
And, if I find out they DID NOT ship then add:
3. Unethical charging of credit card without
having shipped order.
4. Unscrupulous representation of facts about the
order having been shipped.

I get the impression this is a really small 2-3 person business (same person always answers the phone, makes follow-up calls, etc.)

Hopefully I will eventually get what I ordered, but so far am very unsatisfied with the whole experience.

Update 05/01/04:

I did eventually get all the items I ordered, with the exception on:

1. The did a partial shipment without informing me in advance, and in fact had told me the "Order" had been shipped. They did not bother with "Part of your order has been shipped".

2. They could not have tested the CPU/MB/Memory combination, as I paid for, due to partial shipment. The AMD CPU was still sealed in original factory container.

3. The money I paid for "expedited shipment" was a waste. They did ship the final shipment 2-day delivery.

In short, I will never do business with them again, as they have no ability or willingness to deliver what they say they are going to deliver, and on top of that refuse to admit to the customer that they cannot/will not deliver.

I bought a PCChip mb with an AMD XP 2000+ processor as a combo. After installing the mb with the processor I could not get it to post. I did all troubleshooting on my own and once I couldn't get it to work I then tried to get in contact with them. They did not respond so after 2 weeks I called PCChip directly and they gave me the information I requested and now the mb works. But it will not work with the processor that I bought from them. As stated before I PAID for an AMD 2000+ but they sent me a 1900+ and they will not replace it. I will never order anything from them because they are not a business company but a money pit.

Order AthlonXP 64 3000+, Fan, and MSI motherboard on a Thursday, contacted, them Friday and Monday to check if the item had been shipped. Responses both days was that the order would go out that day.

Was called by them to verifiy the order and also asked if I wanted to upgrade the fan on the process so that I would get a 3 year warranty instead of 30 day, which I accepted.

Received an email the following Monday evening saying "We have received your order, and your credit card has been charged, but we are unable to ship your order. The billing name, or address listed on your order does not verify with what your credit card company has on record as your billing information."

Attempts to contact them by email, phone have failed saying they are unable to take phone calls due to a server error.

I have left phone messages but none have been returned.

Have since filed a dispute with the credit card company and will be reporting this horrible experience on all websites that list this reseller. May contact the BBB of their respective area.

Purchased an Atlon XP 2800 333 "barton" cpu through pricewatch. Listed as a barton on pricewatch but changed the add today (removed barton designation but left 512k which still indicates Barton) AFTER I made the RMA (glad I saved the old add/webpage and can make a printout or e-mail it). When I open the package, found the cpu to be a thoroughbred core. Thoroughbred had 256 L2 cache Barton has 512. The part number for a barton is AXDA2800DKV4D and the part number for thoughbred is AXDA2800DKV3D. You can tell just by looking at the core that is too short, recognised it the second I saw it. Created an online RMA request (which for some reason I had to wait all weekend to do) and so far no response. I called by phone and the Woman though polite wouldn't help (why not?) me and directed me to the online RMA. Now I've read the horror stories here! Sorry I ordered from them already as it will be much time before I have my system running and they will probably try to charge me for something extra like return shipping or a restock fee. I'll give them the rest of the day before I call my very good local bank/CCard company first thing in the morning to get a full refund and then CompuBuzz will have the responability of sending me a shipping label to get the part back. I hope compubuzz reads this, they can take care of me the hard way or the easy but it won't be me in the end who's out the money or future business but I'm already out in the way of time and aggravation. Oh, I couldn't care less about unreasonable bs "policy" only state laws and my CCs policy. Should they do the right thing with me, I'll edit this post to show a more satisfied response.

Thank You Resellerratings, you do consumers a fine service and thanks for letting me vent.

Update 3/31 I pleasantly surprised to have recieved my refund in full.

I placed this order on April 9th and it has not even shipped yet (today is April 16th). I put specific instructions in the order to call me if there was a back order as my need for the motherboard I was ordering was time sensitive. I called on Wed, Thur, and Fri for a status, and was told each day that it was going to ship that day. I will not order anything from CompuBuzz again.

Update: Today is April 26th. I never got my order. After several phone calls, I was finally told that Compubuzz doesn't even stock the motherboard that I ordered (and that their website said was in stock). I put specific instructions to contact me if the item I ordered was not in stock; they didn't. They certainly didn't have any trouble billing my credit card. I still haven't gotten a refund. I would NOT buy anything from these clowns. I am seriously considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I ordered a computer from them, it took 3 weeks to get here. When it came in the computer was DOA (DEAD ON ARRIVAL). When I contacted them about it they wanted me to ship it to them at my own expense which is about $25-30 dollars so they could fix it and send it back. I told them this is unacceptable since I didn't want to pay for shipping expenses and wait another 4 weeks to get my computer. I said I want a full refund and they should cover the shipping expense of the computer and 15$ restocking fee which would be another 35 dollars. (THIS IS FOR A BORKEN COMPUTER THEY SENT ME) They disagreed and after negotiating with them I disputed the charge with my credit card company. I have their computer and I have full credit for it. If they want it back, they will now have to come and pick it up. I will never buy anything from this company again and thank god for having the protection from the CC.

This is the worst 2-bit company I have ever dealt with in 8 years of being a computer tech. I purchased a motherboard/processor from them on the 02/05, called back on 02/10 when the order was "still processing" after paying $7.00 for "rush order processing." After calling on the 10th, they said it should be shipped out the 11th. Now its the 12th and the order is STILL processing, after I was assured it would be shipped 6 days after the order (dont forget the extra money for "rush" processing) I have called in excess of 20 times and the number has been busy for the past 2 hours. This has to be the worst excuse of a company that I have ever dealt with. I would NOT recommend this supplier to ANYONE who is purchasing ANY equipment. If you want your supplies check somewhere else, this place needs to post a guarentee that you will not be satisfied. If you want to waste your time and money, try http://www.compubuzz.com, if not, shop around.

UPDATE:
It is now 02/25/04 and I have JUST NOW got an RMA number and an RMA "list of things to do" that is filled with surcharges and "if this" then we charge you $35.00. I read another recent review of this company and agree, they ship the same bad processors around and make money off the surcharges. Word of advice: SonicParts is the same company as Compubuzz, I received the same combo ordering from both companies, both found off of pricewatch and I chose them because of their competitive prices. Both have the same RMA addresses and the same tech people answering the phones. In fact, trying to RMA this product they told me to set the motherboard jumper to CLEAR CMOS and start up the PC. Any computer tech knows if this is done it will cause damage to the motherboard. This advice was given to me by there tech support. Don't use Compubuzz aka SonicParts if your money means anything to you.

Dear Compubuzz....

Regarding the past three orders from your company, I would like to share the following negative remarks:

On Jan 25 I placed this order
1 x ASROCK M810LMR W/XP 2400 1.93GHz SOCKET A CPU & FAN COMBO $102.00

On Jan 25th I also placed this order
1 x PCCHIPS M811LU W/XP 1700 1.47GHz SOCKET A CPU & FAN COMBO $69.00

Feb 4 this order was placed
1 x XP 2000 266FSB SOCKET A - OEM CPU (1.67GHz) $47.00

Feb 4 This RMA was ordered
Ordered XP 2400 processor and ASRock MB combo. Computer would not post. Thought I had MB problem so I changed all devices including memory. Changed processor to another and it booted fine. Tryed 2400XP in another known good PC and it would not boot and no video. Same as original MB. Therefore I have a bad processor...also what idiot printed my VISA card number on the invoice that was shipped!!!
Feb 6 this RMA was ordered
PCChips 811LU Mainboard, item # MBPC811LU, will not shut down properly, has AGP to CPU controller error, looses Video Card and trys to reload it every time it reboots. Mis-reads memory in slot 1 to 128, instead of the 256 that is there, every few boots. When you turn on PC it does not display video everytime and you have to het the reset button several times or turn off and back on a few times to get video. Tryed 2 different video cards, changed memory and processor, still same problem, went into safe mode and uninstalled video, AGP to CPU controller and reinstalled, after one re-boot it gave errors again in these devices and would not shutdown.

Both RMA's were sent back in the same box to save postage. However, we made a mistake and forgot to list the RMA number on the box so it was returned to us. So it cost us another $11.50 to return. At this point, there is a total of $23.00 in return Shipping cost. And a cost of $49.99 for another MB from a local supplier to meet the demands of our customers.

I got the RMA products back on March 3rd. Last night, the board and processor were installed, only to find that the processor is bad. The receipt that came back with the RMA's had the "tested" circled, to appear to us that they had been tested? This processor, after your company supposedly tested it, smoked as soon as I fired up the computer! It appears to me that I received another bad 2400 processor.

The other board, M810LMR (ASROCK), that I also purchased was placed in a computer and sold. It was returned 2 days later because the computer won't shut down, and the Video flickers! I again had to purchase a board at a local supplier for $49.99.

Since the AMD XP2400+ was returned I had to purchase another processor from another supplier for $55.00.

Wait! We're not through!! The AMD XP2000 processor is also bad!! It only registers 200 frontside bus, and will not boot at all if the MB is changed to 266Mhz FSB!

So we've spent $202.92 in sales to you and out of them we can only use 1 processor!! Doesn't seem like we've gotten a good deal from you. We're a small home based business that builds 10 to 20 computers a month, and since we're small we don't keep a large inventory of parts we order as needed. We can't afford to have money out for long periods nor do we have the time to deal with continuing bad parts.

In summary, the following expenses have incurred:

$202.92 original cost to Compubuzz for three orders
$49.99 to local supplier for another good mainboard
$55.00 to supplier for another good XP processor
$49.99 to local supplier for another good mainboard
$23.00 in shipping costs for RMA's to Compubuzz

And I am left with a bad XP2400+ processor still, a bad 811LU mainboard, bad M810LMR mainboard and bad XP2000+ processor.

I also have a problem contacting your so-called tech support. THEY ARE NEVER THERE! And if I try to call within hours of operation listed IT IS ALWAYS BUSY!

I am asking for a solution to our problem. I would like to get replacements for the bad products sold to me. I do not want to pay your shipping again, since you sent me BAD products the second time then maybe you should charge whoever TESTED this equipment. I would like to hear back from someone at Compubuzz by the end of Business EST Monday March 15th. If We don't hear back by this time then we will assume that you don't care about making good on your products nor your reputation. On Tuesday March 16th I will contact the BBB of IL to submit a complaint as well as Price watch and all the other Technical websites.
