I purchased a powered USB hub with a serial port from USBGear / CoolGear (same people) in December. It arrived DOA, the power adapter was bad. I was completely underwhelmed with the product, absent users manual, and lack of drivers and technical data on their web site. I contacted their tech support and after being told to read the manual (none, remember), my trouble ticket was closed. So I returned the item for a refund.

I received the item back a month or so later with a good power adapter, and no refund. No replies to my e-mails, I am probably stuck with it.

In short, marginal product, no documentation, offensive technical support and no customer service. Never again.

I purchased two of metal cased 7 ports USB hubs (Model Number USBG-7U2ML) from USBGear.com in 2010. I knew one port on one of them stopped working shortly after. A couple of days ago, I smelled burned chemical and saw orange light flashing through one of the open ports of the USB hub. I plug off all the USB devices and opened the case. I discovered that there are two black burned marks on the board close to the two ports. I also noticed that the inside of the top cover shows a black burned mark. If the case was plastic and paper is left close, the house could have caught a fire! I would not buy from them again.

We've purchased 4-5 USB serial ports from this company in the past month or two. These are for medical devices and we needed to meet specific specs. USB gear has an excellent selection and we found what we needed. All worked on arrival. Tech support was quick (overnight) and accurate when used 3 times. Shipping was immediate and for a fixed, inexpensive price.
The only drawback to this vendor is the limited online information concerning one's purchases and and the inabilty to reprint invoices.

WARNING: This is owned and operated by a one-man shady businessman out of Clearwater, Florida going under the names: "usbgear.com, cooldrives.com, usbmax.com", and several others.

After two business days after ordering my rush 2-day shipping, I received weird tech support email showing that my order was out of stock; and, wont be available 3-5 business days. No apologies, nor sincerity, nothing. Their website shows pretty much everything as "In Stock"... while most items are NOT.

It wasn't very surprising when I called the support phone number, that the person who claimed to be "the owner" sounded extremely unprofessional and rude (talking over me, etc), actually kind of slimy character ...not somebody I'd ever want to do business with.

I guess that's why Amazon.com screens all their resellers. If Amazon doesnt trust them, I probably wouldnt either.

It's sad to see companies like this get away with such poor service for so many years. Hopefully, people do web searches before ordering from this guy. If money had transferred hands, I would definitely report the way this person does business to the BBB.

I ordered a USB to serial adapter from USBGear about 18 months ago. It worked perfectly and the price was good so when I needed another one and a USB hub I didn't give a second thought to going back to them. The price was better than I could find at any box store by half. And, once again, the shipped quickly and the products worked perfectly.

Ordered and received a USB over TCP/IP 2.0 4 port hub. Supposed to run USB components such as webcams, printer and such...... They show up in the USB server application provided, but that's it, Nothing functions! Have attempted to contact their customer support get no return responses or interest from them... Silence! This thing is basically a paper weight, & there is no response from USBgear.com, leads me to believe they are selling junk components.

Edit: This is GREAT, and says it all about this company.... sent them a note telling them of my reseller ratings review.... They called me to basically tell me to piss off... now that's great customer support isn't it??!!!! At least the jerk agreed to take his junk back so I guess it's a win/win!! We'll see just how much of my original purchase price I get back.

As stated by many others here... Buyer Be ware!

I placed 2 orders at the same time to be delivered to seperate addresses. Their brilliant system kicked the second order out thinking it was a duplicate--completely inane, but at least explainable.

No response to email attempts, but I finally reach someone on the phone. He apologizes for problem and replaces order for me.

First order arrives with double appropriate shipping charge. Week goes by and there's still nothing on the second order. I call again. I'm told they screwed up again, and will (AGAIN) replace the 2nd order, and wave shipping (because of wrong charge on 1st order).

Another week, nothing. I call, its on backorder, will ship next week.

Another week, nothing! This time I call and they have no idea who I am and don't see anything but the first order in the system. I have to write a long-winded email explaining everything and they finally reply with: only one order was placed and we shipped it according to your request, we made no mistakes. I have both of the online receipts to prove them wrong (and I attached them to my email).

So not only did they completely screw up and screw me out of extra dollars, I never received the second order and have now been called a liar.

Don't ever order from this company!!!

I bought an external Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure from them. It cost me nearly double the price for the same product from another (reputable) online store (of course I only found out afterwards). In any case, after paying a hefty $90, my enclosure became defective 2 and a half months afterwards.
Oh, and when the product arrived, I was extremely dissapointed. I paid an overpriced $90 for this plastic POS that broke after 2.5 months?! I mean, the plastic isn't even the high quality plastic that, say, laptops are made out of... it's just regular old junky plastic! Maybe if they had sold it at the appropriate price, I wouldn't be so dissapointed.
This just really sucks; being a student, do I really want to go through the certainly 1-2 month process of obtaining an RMA, waiting for them to test it, and then waiting for them to ship it back via snailmail? Plus, seeing as how the other reviewer said they didn't even send the product back, I am doubtful about my own chances as well...
I don't recommend ordering from this company, simply because the quality of their products is poor, and the charge DOUBLE PRICE for the SAME PRODUCT!
PS this company assumes a huge number of different names under different websites... Their "biggest" (ie parent) name is Quality Cables, and they also go by USB Gear, Firewire Gear, Hardwaremax, Coolgear, and a bazillion other names

Asked why I didn't receive my order when I requested it 2nd Day air, and got it 6 days later, I wasn't really **** until that it is she passed the blame onto someone else when they clearly were in the wrong.... the only thing I did wrong was not read the reviews of the site prior to purchase

The single port RS-232 serial cardbus PCMCIA ordered does not work at all- I am an experienced PC builder and engineer. The insulting language of their return policy is the worst customer service anyone can receive. I returned item,, paid shipping to receive, then return shipping at a cost of almost the product price. Received an email only that item was received. No response about item or refund, now July 2.. I will not order ever again and strongly advise read these reviews.

From our experience this can indicate that the business is either not actively engaged with online communication or is new and growing.
