Elder have provided live in care for my mother for some months now and we have been very impressed. The carers have all been professional, friendly, conscientious and caring. My mother has dementia so gets confused and we have been lucky to have a long time carer who has done an amazing job and has become one of the family. As we live some distance from my mother it’s fundamental that we have someone that we can rely on and keeps my mother safe, secure and loved and this is exactly what Elder carers provide. I would highly recommend Elder to others.

Upgrading my review of elder from 3 to 4 stars as my nan currently has a great new carer who we hope will be ongoing after some months of trying various temporary carers. Iva is highly efficient, tenacious, very clean, tidy, great personal raport with nan who is very suspicious due to dementia. It can take some time to find the right carer(s) who are willing to stay longer term but do persevere, and Elder has a more competitive price compared to others in such an expensive care sector.

Elder is good and effective introduction agency. Online process, videos of prospective carers are very helpful and Elder staff are busy but always polite and helpful. Struggled to find ongoing carers initially, most carers have been very good but temporary so hung in there and now paying off for longer term we hope.

Fullfiled all requirements needed for my 95 year old mother's safety while my husband and I on holiday.

My mother was unexpectedly discharged from hospital following a two month stay. At 93 she was sent home with no care in place while I was abroad. Luckily her elder brother was able to stay until I returned. As I live several hours away I contacted everyone I could think of to look for support (doctors, social services, the hospital) until I found several companies on the internet who offered live in care. The first I spoke to couldn't help for 4 weeks, the second were able to help but something didn't gel for me. The third company I called was Elder and from the moment I spoke to Hannah, I knew I had found a solution that would work for my mother. The system of seeing potential carers speaking about themselves on video is amazing. I felt that we knew Upe before she arrived. Hannah kept in touch and reassured me and mum until Upe had settled in. Mason then took over and again made it so easy to keep care in place even when we had to have change of carer and the lovely Ayu arrived. I would 100% recommend Elder to anyone looking for live in care.

First time I’ve used a home care service for my 84 year old father so wasn’t sure what to expect. The procedure to arrange care was straight forward with my care Manager - Andrew - helping me through the process. Roman the care giver arrived promptly and got straight to work. Chatting with Dad and learning what was needed. Within half an hour he’d said to me that I was now ‘off duty’ and took over. With this I knew I could go on my respite holiday without worry.

We have used Elder for a year now and in that time I can honestly say they have taken the stress and worry out of caring for my Mother. But with the pandemic arriving they have exceeded my expectations. They took it upon themselves to protect my parents in lock down they sourced a 12 week replacement carer to ensure they were shielded for the whole 12 weeks without me even having considered it, they are an outstanding organisation and I am sure I could not manage my parents at home without them.

Carers from Elder have been looking after a friend with early stage dementia for some months now. One, in particular, has stayed with her during the "lockdown". I cannot fault the attention, care and kindness shown to my friend. The live-in carer is an absolute god-send and I can't thank her enough.

Joana was an exceptional carer not only did she carry out all the care functions to a very high standard, but she brought happiness and life back into my mother's life. She quickly formed a very loving relationship with my mother which meant the whole family were happy to leave our mother in her very capable hands.
I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Elder were very professional and incredibly helpful when it came to finding a 24/7 carer for a friend. They spent a lot of time ensuring that they fully understood the requirements of the carer and went through the profile in great detail.

Our carer has been sensitive and caring whilst understanding the difficulties of having someone living 24/7 with an individual who would rather be self sufficient.

Elder found two carers for my mother with Dementia. The first one was inexperienced, had no concept of food hygiene, mixing raw chicken with cooked food in the fridge and leaving it uncooked until it was dangerously out of date. She left with giving no notice, just walked out of the house one morning leaving my Mum on her own. Elder did find a replacement quickly but unfortunately this carer was verbally very cruel to my mother and my mother’s mood and confidence deteriorated terribly. The carer was manipulative and a liar. She spent inordinate amounts of time on the telephone to family in Africa talking in a language my mothers did not understand and further confusing her. She left mum on her own alot even though we paid for 5 hours extra private day care to give the carer from Elder a long break each day. Luckily we have video cameras which captured footage. I would not recommend sourcing care through an agency such as this as they are obviously not vetted correctly. The second carer is meant to be being investigated and reported for her behaviour but I have had no confirmation of this so she could still be out there working for another agency. She said she’d already got a new position to go to in Manchester so please be careful everyone.

My partner had booked in a carer to arrive today but it was a no-show and neither did the agency nor my partner was alerted of the carer’s inability to come for this one week booking which was made weeks ago!

It’s a huge failure of system that’s not helpful! Areas in need of address are :

1. Ensure appointed carer check in with agency at least 48 hours before day of arrival to confirm attendance.

2. Provide carer contact number to household member who’s booked the service so that there’s means for direct contact to cordinate anything that’s required.

3. Establish an ETA, estimated time of arrival of carer so that we don’t wait around in the dark of when the carer will appear.

This has just caused us extra costs and stressful time to arrange backup care for his dad as my partner has committed work in London and can’t leave his dementia dad on his own.

The agency should really review its operational procedure to ensure seamless possible ways to deliver it’s services to it’s customers.
