We had a lovely holiday in Northern Spain and Portugal. Caminos provided an excellent service setting up the route to take and booking a very good selection of hotels all of which treated us with great hospitality.

We sought a holiday travelling around the centre of Portugal to see key sites over a couple of weeks and our holiday was exactly what we were after. Accommodation arranged for us ranged from top-notch hotels to small bed and breakfasts, from city centre to rural locations, and all were excellent quality, the diversity of styles being ideal. Our first night in Portugal was in Evora and the receptionist, upon our arrival, suggested that we go to a free performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in a small central church that evening. The church was packed with all seating taken and as many again standing. The performance was exquisite. What a start! Again upon arrival, the owner of the B&B in the small hill-top village of Castelo de Rodrigo invited us to go with her and another couple, that evening, for a personal night-time tour of the Coa Valley open-air Palaeolithic rock engravings. Night-time viewing avoids the the extreme heat of the day and the glare of the sun making the engravings next to invisible. Special lamps shining across the rocks and a laser pointer revealed the engravings to us in incredible detail, from just a few feet away. Upon arrival at Coimbra and Lisbon, the receptionists each drew a few suggested walking routes and key sites to visit on a map for us. Both had appreciated just what we were seeking and we had the freedom to wander and see some amazing sites, alone and at our own pace. This freedom applied to the entire holiday, as we had hoped. The receptionist at the hotel in the middle of the Serra da Estrela Nature Park provided us with a walking tour across the heights with stupendous views, and again had appreciated the scale and nature of the walk we would be seeking. Casas Cantabricus had provided us with exactly what we were looking for, from our first approach after finding their web site. We sought a modification of their advertised Central Portugal tour to allow us to fly direct from our local UK airport and this request was rapidly dealt with, with us picking up and returning the hire car at Faro airport. The Vamoos app, that Casas Cantabricus provided, worked perfectly and was a great aid, guiding us between accommodation locations. I would strongly recommend Casas Cantabricus to anybody seeking an independent holiday travelling around Portugal.
