In June 2017 I had the MOT done by McConechy's Spiersbridge branch. As part of the repairs needed I was charged and additional £201.82 for handbrake cables (Doc. No. EGC34066). Following the repair, the handbrake remained weak but I thought maybe that was the best they could do (not so as I found out later).

After 11 months and only 3912 miles, I got an advisory regarding the weak handbrake performance during the 2018 MOT at a different garage, which proves that McConechy's did not address the problem properly during the previous MOT.

For the 2019 MOT, I used the other garage again and this time I asked why the handbrake was weak, especially given that I was invoiced for brand new cables by McConechy's 2 years ago. They had a look and found the cables were not in the condition you'd expect from a 2 year old part. All other parts underneath the car replaced by McConechy's in June 2017 still looked relatively good, except the handbrake cables. This is verifiable.

I then asked the other garage to replace the cables, which were difficult to remove given their condition. Following this, the handbrake improved instantly, proving that no other part was responsible for the problem. This was of course done at additional cost.

I complained to McConechy's Spiersbridge branch in June 2019, but this wasn't constructive. I then wrote to their head office explaining my experience and provided them with all the information above, and expressed my conclusions that perhaps due to a mistake or time-billing practices, the cables were adjusted but not fully replaced in June 2017.

Their regional manager responded by selectively acknowledging the information I presented and then stated that they will not accept liability or offer any compensation and kept insisting that the cables were supplied and fitted in June 2017 without providing any explanation of why he is certain that no other reasonable scenario could have occurred.

Regardless of what happened and the time that has passed, the 2018 MOT record shows that there was an issue with McConechy's repair within their 1-year guarantee period, so I believe that this fact alone should've merited a better response from McConechy's.

Wrong tyre fitted Did not match others on car
Inferior tyre to others on car
Because in Inverness for festive break only had to get back to Edinburgh
Consulted mechanic and gave advice tyre would do in circumstances but really McConechys should have been upfront and informed not Continental make

Just been in and handed car over at McConechys Montrose, nd gotta say tip top service from the guys there from min I first foned and booked my car in. These guys need commended for there wrk in these times, a pleasure dealing with them have now found regular garage car needs

Booked in for 10.00am for four new tyres. Job finished by 10.30, chaps extremely pleasant, can't get better than that.

I have been dealing with this company for roughly 30 years and would go nowhere else, the staff in the Paisley branch are polite, cheery and always happy to help. You never feel as if you've been overcharged. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are incredibly quick to get through the busy workshop and you never feel like you're waiting for hours. Can't fault them. 5 stars????????

My Dad’s car wouldn’t start this morning and he was needing to get on the road sharp, I phoned Kyle at McConechy’s for help - he had Daniel round in less than 10 minutes!! Talk about top service!! Huge thanks Kyle, Daniel + team.

I had made an online booking through Gordon's Tyres own website and paid £310 for 2 new front tyres to be fitted last Monday at 10am. I had received a confirmation email so I assumed all was good.

I turned up at 09:50 on the Monday morning for the store to have no idea of the booking, and the tyres had not even been delivered. So I left having received no apology from anybody in store nor a time frame for when they'd expect to receive my tyres, all they said was they'll call when the tyres arrive.

6 hours later I get a call that the tyres have just arrived and they'd fit them when I turn up. Still received no apology and customer service was poor.

The first time anybody had apologised to me was after contacting customer services, and all they can offer me for the terrible service and time wasted is a free MOT when it is due. The excuse for the tyres not turning up was the 2nd Jan holiday in Scotland so the order was not processed. Unfortunately I wouldn't trust this company and don't wish for them to go near my car again.

When you book for a tyre appointment you'd expect the tyres to be there, or at least somebody to call you to apologise explain they haven't arrived and offer a rebooking. Instead I ended up taking time off work, losing money as a result and wasting a journey to the shop.

I will not be going back.

Went in this morning to get 2 tyres fitted, walked into reception and rang the bell, reception worker told me he would be one minute, came back about 15 minutes later and was very unpolite. Told me it would be about 45 minutes so came back about 45 minutes later, then noticed my front alloy was completly scuffed which it was spotless when going in. Took no responsibilitly for this and tried to blame it on the fact my alloys were black/my driving. Told me to come back tomorrow to speak to a manager, i then drive away and my tyre pressure light comes on so will now have to go and fix this. Will not be returning again.

Don't turn up 20 minutes before they close to get your tire changed, I mean it's supposed to be 'while you wait' not "come back tomorrow, we are closing soon", they were not even busy. I went to Kwik Fit against my better judgment, got there just 10 minutes before they were to close and not a problem, they changed it there and then. I guess they have won me back.

Edit: Nice try with the reply, but Kwik Fit were busy, 4 people in, you had staff standing around, waiting to go home.

I've been using McConechys for a few years now. They've never let me down and have been very professional and accommodating. My Volvo is in excellent hands with them and they keep me informed when parts and work will be arriving/completed. Since I am an NHS employee, they gave my car priority treatment and discount. Rhys and Mark are lovely and great mechanics.

5 minutes before they were closing I came in with a bald tyre which I needed to be changed as I had 5 hours journey ahead of me. They were so helpful and friendly.

Booked car in for 10.15, work started an hour later.
Changed front tyres, should have been rear tyres, another delay.
Staff under pressure, not enough of them to cope with workload, mistakes being made.
Seemed to be a great deal of confusion, bookings mixed up, paperwork lost, tempers frayed !!

Had a puncture in one wheel with 3 nails and a screw. Guys couldn’t offer the internet deal, so fair enough ordered tyre online. Booked it in for 09.00 Wednesday morning, went in left the tyre with them as they were busy and wouldn’t be finished the job they were working on until 9.20. So said I would pick it up later. Sent one of my guys for it at 16.30 phoned and told me it hadn’t been fitted and it hadn’t been paid for. In the end had to send the email with invoice to my guy , who then showed it to manager/employee, who then had to phone somebody else to clarify. After that was settled they fitted it in 5 mins. Also they didn’t contact at any time throughout the day to ask me any questions!

Booked a slot for 10.00 only to be told on arrival that one of the tyres had not been delivered to the workshop and they didn't know what time it would arrive. I had to return home and await a phone call which duly came a couple of hours later. Tyres fitted at 4 o'clock. I asked why I was not contacted and was told they were hoping the tyre would arrive before me. Luckily I only live a couple of minutes away. I would have been pretty angry if I had driven for miles to be turned away.

Booked in for 2 tyres and tracking ,discovered a broken track rod end and broken spring thanks to a pothole,sorted with minimum of fuss. Would highly recommend

Ordered tyres online during the week to be fitted on the Saturday morning at my local McConechys to turn up and the tyres i ordered aren't there. Disappointing and will not use the online order service again. Guys in branch really apologetic and will call me when they speak to head office and get tyres in to fit hopefully next Saturday. 1 star is for the online order system as it did not deliver.
